When I set up my honeybee hive, I had no idea I might be harming wild bee species. Now I’ve found better ways to encourage biodiversity, say
Recent studies conducted in Europe and North America seem to suggest that when honeybees are introduced into urban areas they can outcompete the wild bees.
In Munich, an increase in hives in the surrounding area reduced the number of wild bees recorded between May and July in the city’s botanical garden. Similarly, in Paris, fewer wild bees were observed when more hives were introduced across the city. The findings were echoed in Montreal, which between 2013 and 2020 witnessed a twelvefold increase in hives from 250 to almost 3,000. Sites with the largest increase had the biggest drop in wild bee species.
(…) Honeybees are livestock, like pigs and chicken. And just as keeping chickens won’t save wild birds, honeybees won’t save wild bees, and in some cases could be contributing to their demise.
y'all need to recognize that animal rights and human rights are interconnected. the workers on factory farms, meat packing plants, and slaughter houses are exploited just as much as the animals are.

The most humane way to slaughter an animal is to not slaughter the animal at all.
anyone else very disturbed by ag-gag laws & perplexed on how they are even allowed to exist? (Laws that make it illegal and punishable in some U.S. states to film any footage or take any photos of farms)
You should have the right to know where your food is coming from. Going undercover and taking footage of farms can reveal how the animals at these facilities are treated, assess if workers are working in a safe environment + not being taken advantage of, and also reveal any food-safety or environmental concerns as well. So understandably, you can see why many large-scale agricultural operations have been lobbying for these ag-gag laws to still stay around.. it doesn't benefit them at all to have that kind of info leaked to the public.
Luckily due to the efforts of many activists (such as animal right activists, consumer rights activists and agencies meant to protect farm-workers) there are now only 6 states that still have fully active ag-gag laws as of 2022. 9 lawsuits have successfully overturned some other states ag gag laws either partially or completely.
its very disturbing how this was okay in other states, and that currently in 6 states it is -still- to this day, illegal to film or take photos of farms w/o the consent of the owner(s)... its very backwards
i feel so alone in my rural ass town as a vegan (we are literally known for our rodeo. awesome🙃)
i know like one vegan and idek how she feels about doing activism
i just want to do some group activism but there isn't even a vegan facebook page :(
i want to be an effective vegan advocate, but sometimes it's just so hard to empathize with non-vegans. once you truly see the horrors of animal agriculture, how can you still defend it? how can you still voluntarily participate in it? i just cannot relate
I don’t think that people grasp what it is that they’re actually asking when they tell vegans not to ‘push their beliefs on others.’ This can only be understood as asking us to stop advocating for animal rights and stop speaking up for the victims of animal agriculture.
You can dislike pushy vegans or want to be one of the ‘chill ones’ if you like. But the fact of the matter there is no way for us to just stop talking about animal agriculture or promoting veganism while simultaneously defending animals. What they’re actually asking us to do is to be silent so that they don’t have to feel bad.
Hate how non vegans are down to boycott Starbucks, Amazon ect but when vegan start talking about how we should boycott the meat industry suddenly it’s all about no ethical consumption under capitalism
The issue is that unlike individual businesses, whether you are or are not boycotting animal industries is very visible. People can tell that you’re not doing it and it’s easy to hold people to account. It’s also harder in general, and personally I wish people would just say that openly rather than constructing these pretentious, pseudo-political smokescreens to try and explain why they are for boycott only in specific circumstances where it doesn’t actually ask much of them.
Animal agriculture is the exception to every rule for ‘leftists.’ It is just about the only industry they refuse to apply their existing knowledge and values to. Give it six months and the people advocating for boycott now will be pretending they don’t know how it works when they’re asked to do it against animal agriculture industries.
whenever someone points out that horse riding is harmful for the animal some dumbass inevitably comes in acting like "horses need exercise!" is a valid take as if it's not possible for an animal to get exercise without someone sitting on them
