“ that’s a lot of pressure.” //to gaara!
Open Prompts > @beastgale
“It is,” Gaara bluntly responds, ever-conscious of how his sleeves hang several inches past his fingertips.
It had been weeks since he had been thrust into the position of acting Kazekage, pending a Council-approved candidate, and somehow no one had thought to tailor the too-big robes to his size. Understandably so, considering what must be done. Villages to be rebuilt. Treasuries to be filled. Alliances to forge. Consequences to avoid.
Fashion is low on his list of priorities.
Still, Temari had fixed the bottom of his robes, so that its hem would not trail in the dirt. Then Kankurou had gone behind her and sown it properly, so that he at least looked professional meeting with the Sunan Council; then Konoha’s Council. Kiri. Iwa. There are reparations to pay, damage to fix, lives to mourn, and Gaara is all but a child playing dress up in his father’s robes.
Distantly, he sees that he and Lee match, in color if not shape or size. Gaara is still slender and short—traits inherited from his mother—where Lee was built like a warrior.
From a distance, he imagines, their differences are blurred. Maybe they blend into the foliage; maybe they look like leaves. Never mind the villages they hail from; never mind that Rock Lee is of the Hidden Leaves, and Gaara is of the Sand.
If he closes his eyes and squints, they are the same: Two shinobi dedicated to protecting what is precious to them, who are vicious and brutal when the time calls for it, perhaps enjoying the fight a bit too much.
He sees nothing wrong with opening up to himself. A proper leader has no fear of speeches, at any rate.
“There is a old saying among Sunan miners,” Gaara starts, hesitantly. “‘ No pressure, no diamonds. ’ But I am not made of coal. I am no diamond. No man is.”
If he had to pick a metaphor...
“I am a single grain of sand. Only one, among thousands of others, just like me. If I am pressured too much, I crack and split. I only make more sand. My self becomes smaller, not greater...”
...this is humiliating.
Gaara tries again.
“Yet, the desert is made of sand. It is great. It is vast. It is endless. It consumes whole bodies without remorse. It breeds life, as small as it may be. Little gem-eyed bugs, nesting under pebbles, or hummingbirds drinking dew from cacti, or Sunans, scavaging for food and water...”
...and now he’s rambling. Gaara clicks his tongue.
“To be brief: Alone, I am a grain of sand. With allies, I am a desert. And that cannot be crushed.”
*: ・゚✧ the rite.
feel free to change pronouns, etc. as needed!
“ don’t be afraid.”
“ do you believe in sin?”
“ there’s nothing to believe.”
“ the devil is still alive and active in the world.”
“ we serve the dead, but we don’t talk about them.”
“ we don’t talk about them. it brings bad things.”
“ we keep dead people in the house.”
“ how much worse could it get?”
“ are you kidding me?”
“ i’m just joking. okay? joking.”
“ well, then change your name.”
“ if it doesn’t work out, i can always leave.”
“ you know what, __? you’re such a dick.”
“ i will never confess to you.”
“ don’t worry, the pain is gone.”
“ i’ve been distracted.”
“ i don’t wanna die like this.”
“ you shouldn’t think about it. it was an accident.”
“ it’s hard not to think about. i feel somewhat responsible.”
“ i think you’re making a mistake.”
“ i think this is the part where i say ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ and ‘let’s just be friends.’ ”
“ i imagine that means you’re not very squeamish.”
“ why? why would you want me?”
“ i don’t know what i believe in.”
“ i prefer punctuality to apologies.”
“ he’s asked me to keep an eye on you.”
“ he thinks you’ve got great potential.”

“ i don’t know what that means.”
“ you don’t like cats?”
“ the spirit is pretty devious.”
“ yes. spirit. demon. the devil.”
“ whatever you do, do not address it. do not speak to it. it’s the devil.”
“ it won’t stop now. even when i sleep it talks.”
“ you must not touch me.”
“ shut up! you must not speak.”
“ it gets complicated when no proof of the devil is somehow proof of the devil.”
“ the interesting thing about skeptics is that we’re always looking for proof, certainty.”
“ there’s something that keeps digging and scraping away inside me.”
“ i’m telling you because i’m concerned.”
“ it was terrible to see you go through your suffering.”
“ do you remember any of it?”
“ you’re still not convinced—”
“ that wasn’t a human voice, though, was it?”
“ choosing not to believe in the devil won’t protect you from him.”
“ you’re not a coward. don’t be afraid.”
“ you hit him?”
“ are you lying?”
“ that’s enough now, do you hear me? no one is going to die.”
“ so you’re happy to have them continue believing something that may not be true?”
“ and what is it you believe?”
“ i believe that people prefer to lie to themselves than face the truth.”
“ and i’m not finished yet!”
“ you know how to swear in every language?”
“ a liar knows a liar.”
“ what is it you want me to believe?”
“ how can i fear you if you don’t exist?”
“ he still has you fooled, hasn’t he?”
“ i failed her.”
“ you did what you thought was best.”
“ sometimes he would tell me what the devil said. and sometimes, it would come true.”
“ sorry to wake you… i thought it best to tell you myself.”
“ they’re hurting me.”
“ i don’t know what’s going on. i’m hallucinating. i’m seeing things, i’m hearing things…”
“ look, i need your help. i feel like i’m going insane.”
“ i think… i think i did something awful.”
“ you’ll have to lock me up.”
“ i’m just an old friend.”
“ you’re a liar.”
“ are you reading my mind?”
“ do you think i’m afraid of you?”
“ you are noting! you know nothing!”
“ cherish your doubts.”
“ what’s happening to me?”
“ tie me up. tie me up!”
“ give up. you don’t have the strength.”
“ oopsie-daisy, close to home.”
“ accept the devil.”
“ i will never leave you, __. i will never leave you.”
“ i saw quite a bit of myself in you. scary, isn’t it?”
Send ! and I will write a 2-3 sentence starter for you!
Can be for AUs, main verse, both old and new partners alike!
It’s 4 A.M.
My brain is screaming “RASA RIGHTS,” so here goes:
He’s the type of guy that would buy a bucket of dirt for $1000.00, just to sift through it for gold. The repetitive motions are comforting. (@sunagakurenosato).
He files a complaint with the company after valuing the gold, claiming that the amounts were less than advertised. (And false advertisement is illegal, he writes.)
While he respects the law (see above), he makes a better treasurer or legislator than Kazekage. The objectivity he uses to craft laws and count coin, looks very ruthless on an executive—and is unpopular.
He’s less greedy and more—he likes to count money. And math in general. He’s good at it. It’s practical. Requires no judgment calls. Causes no heart issues, of which he has many. 10/10 do recommend.

Summary: The path back to Sunagakure is a winding one, filled with mirages, sand traps, and bickering over the remains of a human puppet collection.
A post-Shukaku Gaara ponders over the legacy of the Kazekage.

Sand stretches out wide before a legged caravan, rolling with pale dunes. The desert sinks under its manifold feet, click and clacking as it crawls along the ground, blue glinting between its joints. Unhurried, the wind kisses the top of their wagon, setting dust into the crevices of their clothes.
At the helm of the contraption, Temari clicks her tongue and wraps a scarf around her face. Teal eyes peek out from behind the cotton to glance back into the caravan, where Gaara rests, sitting separately from a pile of wood and flesh puppets.
Eyes closed, he twirls his fingers on the sand floor, listening to the sound of insects flitting in the earth. A breeze creaks by, low and haunting.
His mind clears. His heart beats.
The desert seems so much kinder, now that he has died.

On the Muses -
Gaara is a trained killer who desires atonement for his past. Life experiences have taught to be abrupt and rude to put up a shell protecting himself from others. At the same time, positive influences from both Yasha and his father have instilled him with an oddly elegant manner of speaking. As much as politics have ruined his life, he is interested in them, and they will feature as such in this blog.
Gaara is extremely disinterested at worst, but will be polite depending on his age and stability. He can be violent if under Shukaku’s influence, or extreme stress. Please be patient with him, as he will not warm up to most right away. If you want him to be gentle or soft, please DM to plot out something with the Mun.
Shukaku is a demon born from thousands of devoured souls, angry and prideful — and secretly insecure about his own weaknesses. He projects his insecurity upon others through violence and threats; Gaara is his favorite victim, and medium, for doing such.
Frankly—Shukaku hates a lot of people simply for existing. He loathes those that do not even try. However, he can be culled down to be more mischievous than devilish. Please let DM to plot out something with the Mun.
The only holy thing this blog recognizes is the moon, so please - no god modding.

FAQS:
Who are you?
I go by “Akat” on my roleplay Tumblrs, @akatdollie, @akatdeity, and @akatanuki.
If you know my fandom main do not mention it to others, please.
Are you affiliated with Akatzombie?
No. Akatzombie—though my friend—is run by another wonderful, talented mun.
Why didn’t you follow me back?
First, this is a side blog. I may have followed you back from my main, “akatsings”. You do not have to follow that blog for me to interact with yours.
Second, I don’t automatically follow back. If I do, I may unfollow at will—nothing against you, I just aim to keep my dash focused for my muses.
Third, if you don’t see akatsings in your follower list, don’t worry! I still answer casual asks (ooc and easy interactions) from anyone, both rp and non-rp blogs.
How selective are you in general?
I will not respond in detailed prose to any rare, crossover, or OC character without an easy to find biography/intro. I am not researching your muse. That is not fun—it’s homework.
OOC and headcanon asks are fine, though.
I will not answer shipping, violent, or sexual asks for anyone but my mutuals. Even then I only answer what inspires me.
The reason for this is that my muses tend to respond aggressively to unsolicited advances, and I don’t always feel comfortable answering in character.
I won’t thread for anyone but long-term friends or those who respect and understand the dynamics of my characters.
I reserve the right to determine who does and does not meet the above qualifications.
How selective are you in shipping?
It usually takes me two to three sentences of a reasonable argument/AU to ship something, but I won’t do all the work to make it “happen.”
Further: Just because I generally ship something, doesn’t mean that I will automatically ship my muse with yours. Different muns have different portrayals and different writing styles for the same muses; sometimes these portrayals click. Other times they don’t.
What if my character doesn’t meet yours in canon?
That’s fine! Just ask or dm me with how you want them to interact (friends? Rivals? Comrades? Etc), plus a scenario where they do meet, and I will tell you how my muse will react in that situation, and then we’ll move on from there.
What if I want to make an AU for our muses?
Same as above! Give me an idea and we’ll talk about it.
I generally have a lot of open-ended verses that I adapt to fit other people’s muses and ideas. You are free to propose a variation on them, or another verse entirely. However, I won’t be doing all the work in order to get our characters to meet, interact and like/dislike each other—that’s unfair, and too much work on one mun.
If you’re having trouble, start with— “I really think it’s cool if X and Y character—“ etc. Or how you think our characters would work together.
What if I accidentally break a rule of yours?
If you’re a mutual, I will take a screenshot of the rule and kindly remind you to abide by them. If you’re a stranger, I will automatically soft block or block, depending on how badly the rule was broken and how uncomfortable I feel.
I don’t make these rules to be mean, but to save the time and energy of us all. So if these rules are disregarded, then we will have to cut our losses. I will unfollow when I feel like someone has not read my rule page, and not be inclined to interact.
If you’re unsure if you have broken a rule, please politely ask. I don’t bite really.
How do I interact with you more?
Send! 👏 More! 👏 Asks!
OOC, or IC, I promise to return the favor.
Can I have your discord ID?
Maybe! This is reserved for long-term friends / mutuals that respect my characters.
If you are one of these people, do not give my ID out without asking, please.

Thank you for reading my rules! I will extend the same courtesy to you, and will be reading your blog information prior to following or interacting.
Note: Mun works eight to six job Monday through Friday, in addition to running several sideblogs, so replies may be slow. Feel free to poke them if you haven’t heard from them in a while.
