About every 15 minutes, there is a wave of people being woken up by alarms. 5 minutes later another wave of slightly less motivated individuals wakes up for the second time.

In Hong Kong’s densely packed Causeway Bay district, a red sign with a portrait of Chairman Mao advertises coffee, books and Internet. Customers go up a narrow staircase and into a room stacked high with bookshelves. The walls are painted red, and decked out with 1960s Cultural Revolution propaganda posters.
This is the People’s Bookstore (in Chinese, “People’s Commune”), run by Hong Kong entrepreneur Paul Tang. He specializes in books about mainland China published legally in Hong Kong, but banned on the mainland.
Tang’s bookstore has been receiving quite a bit of attention since the disappearance of five nearby booksellers who also specialize in banned books. Two of those booksellers resurfaced in police custody on the mainland, leading to fears that the men were kidnapped.

Here’s a better thread...
What books did you LOVE in high school?
Hmmmmm. I loved the Scarlet Letter. Not the crappy intro (what the hell was Hawthorne on?) but everything else. GO HESTER. She’s too good for Arthur Dimmesdale.
Not sure it counts, since my English teacher only assigned it to me, not the rest of the class, but it has to be A Study in Scarlet. 8 years after my first reading at age 13, it is still one of my favourite books and Arthur Conan Doyle is still one of my favourite authors.

I have a plan: attack!
I wouldn’t know how to be grounded any more than you know how to ground.
The problem with suicidal thoughts is that they’re not just there when your sad. You’ll be there, chillin, reading a book or talking to a friend and you’ll think ‘This is nice. But do you know what would be better? Death.’
@lumos-vs-nox This is referred to as “mild suicidal ideation“ or the desire for suicide without substantial action behind it. It often happens when someone deals with prolonged mental health issues and suicidality at a young age. When you’re young, we go through a period where our neural pathways completely rearrange- the things that happen to us at that time will influence these changes. In a way, suicidal ideation becomes an ingrained coping mechanism. A sort of “well at least suicide is always there for me”. Your brain is part-muscle, it remembers things, it learns, it’s super great at adapting, this is just a reflex. It doesn’t mean you are weak, it doesn’t mean you aren’t in recovery.
thank you for posting this, you turned a feeling many people have into words!
i was always confused about this because like, it’s on the back of my mind on a good day, and i don’t really think i would do it, but it’s just there.
