Something I really struggle to get people to understand is that like. Sometimes there was no intentional homoerotic subtext, the author was just extremely misogynistic. Sometimes the author wasn't "secretly shipping" those two men, the author literally just hates women so much that they see them as being literally incapable of relationships with depth. Like this is kind of a big thing with misogyny actually. A lot of extremely misogynistic people truly believe that a man can only have meaningful and complex relationships with other men because they literally just think women are so inferior they only exist to birth children and clean the house. It's like when people say along the lines of "no one worships exclusively men quite like straight men do". It's just that phenomenon actually. That happens to be manifesting in a raging misogynist's writing. Writing a man character who literally only puts effort into his friendships with other men while completely ignoring his literal girlfriend or wife is actually an extremely straight thing to write. And that doesn't mean you can't ship those men or that there are no stories with actual intentional homoerotic subtext. I just think it's important to be able to recognize extreme misogyny in writing and acknowledge it without brushing it off and assuming good intentions when literally all evidence is screaming that this was a misogynistic writing choice and not a representing gay men choice.

And it's ALWAYS worth the reader honestly taking a minute to examine whether or not there's a perfectly fine female character existing there in the shadow of the reader's own previously unexamined gender biases.

The show continued and the men around were getting drunker by the minute. Jinshi had agreed to enjoy the scenery but instinctively he had begun smelling the alcohol that they had served. Jinshi hadn't drank and so as to try not to be left out he was going to take a sip but the smell had stopped him, he deduced that the liquid was on the cheaper side which he wasn't surprised about since it was common for restaurants to outright offer what would get the customer drunk the fastest. As he looked around for a waitress he remembered that earlier one of the girls had stood behind him, the black light made it harder for him to see but he always tried to remember something about each passing person and he had noticed that this particular girl covered her left arm with what seemed to be a long handwarmer.

Lifting his hand, he signal for the girl to come over and began to speak. "Sorry but do you know if there's any extra añejo tequila?" He lifted his gaze up from his cup, his face turning white at the sight of a familiar face.

"Yen-" He tried to speak but was abruptly stopped by the finger of the woman in front of him pressed against his lips. It took five seconds, not that he was counting, until that same finger left his mouth and began tapping on a plastic tag that was hanging on the woman's top.

"...Jasmine?" He said confused, his face felt warmer once he processed that the same grumpy woman he knew was standing before him in little clothing.

"That 's me." Her smile was creepier than what he remembered, definitely Yening.

Jinshi shook his head and instinctively sat up. "So...haha, do you have any extra añejo tequila?"

"I'll go check." She said, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
