Fruits Basket Hogwarts Houses
Kyo Sohma. He is one of the most gryffindor people to ever gryffindor. He is brave and daring, sometimes competitive and impulsive to a fault. I didn’t consider any other houses for him
Momiji Sohma. I thought about this for a while because some of his characteristics suggest Hufflepuff, he is good and kind, helpful and always willing to lend a hand. But I think his bravery is what shines though the most, bravery to express himself, to confront his past, to confront Akito, to leave Akito behind. He stands in front of Tohru fully knowing that Akito was going to hurt him while everyone else stood behind and watched. I think he is the bravest character in the story.
Kisa Sohma. Yet another one I had to stop and think for a while. I decided with Gryffindor because her whole arc is about bravery, about overcoming obstacles for youself and for the people you love. And I think her main characteristic as a character is her courage, she was beaten and bullied and she still had the courage to go on and be herself again. I think she represents a different kind of bravery that is not so stereotypically gryffindor. I considered Hufflepuff too for a while but I think Gryffindor wins this one, just like with the next character.
Ritsu Sohma. This one was one of the hardest for me to sort, but, just like with Kisa, I feel like Gryffindor wins this one. Ritsu is kind and hardworing but I feel like the main theme in their story is about the bravery to accept who you are. Also Ritsu themselves states that they admir Ayame’s charisma and dauntlessness and I think that reflects a lot about who they aspire to be. I am certain this one will be controversial, mostly because Ritsu’s character was underdeveloped so most of when can say is based on our own interpretations, but I think that just like Kisa, they represent a more quiet kind of courage.
Arisa Uotani. Quite the Gryffindor stereotype, daring, hot headed competitive, brave. She’s been through hell and back and has managed to keep her head up. An inspiration to us all. I briefly considered Hufflepuff because of her loyalty and devotion to Tohru but those Gryffindor traits are too hard to sort her anywhere else.
Kakeru Manabe. Just like Uo, he is the steriotypical Gryffindor. Hot headed, loud, competitive, obnoxious. He often acts out of impulse whitout thinking things through, Just… one gryffindor boy.
Kagura Sohma. Another fairly easy one. Just like the two before her she is impulsive, hot headed and reactive. I also think the way she bares her emotions to Kyo is extremely brave and the kind of brave you can only be when you are vulnerable. I considered Hufflepuff because on the cliff notes it is stated that she has a very nurturing aura and that she wishes to work with children, but in the end I think it does not outweight what we learnt from her in the manga.
Tohru Honda. Do I need to explain this one? Her main characteristic is her kindness, her goodness, her loyalty and her willingness to help others. I considered Slytherin for a bit because of how determined and resourceful she is but I think her Hufflepuff characteristics far outweight her Slytherin ones.
Hatsuharu Sohma. Again a fairly obvious one, Haru’s main characteristic is how good he is and his role in the story is based around his loyalty to both Yuki and Rin. The latter actually makes him neglect the loyalty he should feel towards Akito. I considered gryffindor for him (that’s where el @machi-kuragi sorted him) but I feel like his kindness and selflessness are more relevant to his character than his bravery.
Kureno Sohma. Yet another one that I feel has room for little to no discussion. Kureno’s main motivation in the story is his loyalty towards Akito. He is so good that he can’t abandon her. He is good and he is kind. One of the first metions of him is about how much he resembles Tohru.
Saki Hanajima. This one was a bit harder for me. I considered basically every house. In the end I went with Hufflepuff because her main motivation always seems to be her loyalty towards Tohru and she seems to have an important sense of fairness (’punishing’ the prince yuki girls, making sure Kyo and Yuki don’t leave Tohru alone on New Year’s). I discarded Slytherin because she doesn’t have any main goal or ambition that moves her, and she although she is very smart she doesn’t feel like someone with an particular thirst for knowledge either, so no Ravenclaw either. I could work with Gryffindor but I think Hufflepuff fits her more.
Hiro Sohma. I didn’t really know where to place him. I went with Ravenclaw because he is a smartass. And he does seem to be a curious and creative kid with a a tendency to question why things are the way they are (that scene where he is basically saying but why should we take our shoes off in the dojo?) Also when he insults Tohru he calls her dumb, which leads me to believe that intelligence is something he values. As a whole it does sound quite Ravenclaw-y.
Machi Kuragi. Hear me out. She is smart and creative and resourceful. That time she fucking slams that door with a chair? That’s 100% out of the box thinking and not an impulse decision. Also a lot of her relationship with Yuki has to do with wanting to know him, to understand him. I could see Hufflepuff for her too, but she does strike me as a Ravenclaw.
Rin Sohma. Again, an easy one, she is extremely purpose driven. She is determined and resourceful and all throughout the story her moving force has always being her purpose, her ambition to break the curse and save Haru. I briefly consider ravenclaw, since she is creative and her seek for an end to the curse does involve searching for a lot of knowledge, but I think Slyhterin suits her way better.
Shigure Sohma. Do I need to even explain this one? The whole story is his master plan to get what he wants. Ambicious, cunning, patient, determined. He is THE Slytherin.
Hatori Sohma. Quietly determined, dependable, loyal to a very select few, patient. He seems like the type who will only make a decision after a intense process of considering the pros and the cons. He is also very practical so I don’t see him as the type who would pursue knowledge for the sake of knowledge.
Yuki Sohma. I considered Ravenclaw for him but, just like Hatori, even though he is very smart,he doesn’t seem like the type who would pursue knowledge for the sake of knowledge. His arc also revolves a lot around the theme of self-improvement. He decides he is gonna be a better version of himself, and throughout the story we see him taking the steps to become that person.
Ayame Sohma. Look this is not because he is the snake. Once Ayame decides that something is his goal there is nothing that can stop him, his whole arc is about seeing what he did wrong in the past and deciding that he was going to right his wrongs. And he does. He was rejected by Yuki time and time again and never stopped trying. He is determined and resolute. He is also a natural born leader, and has a charm that he constantly uses to get what he wants (the way he managed to be allowed to keep his long hair in high school? tell me that isn’t the way of a slytherin).
