Witchy Basics - Charging
So far in this series I've talked about intent and cleansing. Today we'll be talking about charging. We've learned already that intent is the backbone of witchcraft while cleansing is like the immune system. Charging is like the heart— taking intent and flowing it through you and into the target object. Even after I began to learn the basics, charging was one I really neglected. I thought it was the least important of the five because in my mind I thought "Well why do I have to charge things? Isn't my Intent good enough by itself?" and while yes sometimes intent alone is enough sometimes you need that extra oomph.
What is charging and why is it important?
Charging is the process of taking an object and imbuing it with your intent. This is done after the object is cleansed and cleared of past intents that have been charged into the object. Certain spells can require charged items like moon water, sun water, sigils, crystals, and more. These are done using a variety of methods from charging it under sunlight and moonlight, to speaking your intent into it, or even burying it to absorb the earths energies. Most of my spells utilize what I call a spell tag. It's a slip of paper i write my intention onto and optionally draw on a little sigil I make. I then fold it and charge it with that intention by focusing my energy into it while focusing on my intent. I also commonly use moon water, sun water, and sigils which are all charged objects. It's important when you're putting out water in the sunlight or moonlight to focus on the intention that the water will be charged with. Some people will hold the object in there palm letting their energy flow into the object as they speak their intention in order to charge an object. Sometimes people will also bury crystals in order to charge them. Start small set out some water in the sunlight or moonlight or bury it. Over time as you learn and get more proficient in energy work, more on that in a future series, you can move on to charging it with your own energies.

Hellenic Polytheist version of Christmas where Dionysus' birth is celebrated through singing and dancing by firelight. People drink wine, dance in various animal masks crowned with ivy, and shake their thyrsos to the god. To keep warm, they light a bonfire and throw in symbolic items representing their worries/problems, showing them letting the problems go. After three days (representing the three times Dionysus lives) of different forms of celebration pass, everybody spends an evening resting and telling stories about the year - good and bad.
Dionysus rides in a flying chariot with eight leopards, all crowned with ivy (and sometimes a ninth leopard with glowing eyes at the front, depending on what you believe). He gives wine and delicious food to those who were good throughout the year but leaves strangely ominous objects to those who were bad (one half of a pair of scissors, rotten grapes, a disembodied lion head, etc.).
If only my ideas could be brought into reality; it would be so fun. 😮💨😔
