“Oh, yeah, sorry. I’m kind of bad at stuff like that.” he admitted, slightly embarrassed that he had never even given his name, “I’m Owen. It’s nice to meet you.” he said, and it was actually true, he was intrigued by all the animals this man seemed to have. “How many pets do you have? I haven’t had pets in ages, can’t really in the dorms.” he added. The truth was he had never had a pet, but he had made up a few in his time. Most kids had a cat, or a dog, or at least a fish. It helped with blending in. “I’m alright, back in school for the semester, just on my way home from work now, actually. What about you?” he asked, knowing one of the few social rules he had memorized was that you always asked that question back.
"Nah you're good, markets aren't the best place to meet. But it's nice to meet you too." He chuckled as Owen asked the question he gets asked a lot. One he got used to answering all the time when he first meets someone, He rubbed the backs of the three dogs that went back to laying around on the ground, "Well I got these three right here, that ferret and a cat back home. Keeps the place lively." He wasn't exactly sure what was the legal number of pets you could have in an apartment but so far not fined so. "Ah, I remember dorm days, I had a goldfish in my dorm. You could get that if you want some company." He pat the ground, inviting Owen to sit seeing that he was craning his neck up to speak to him. "I was just walking them and realised I haven't really paid my respects yet, so here I am." He gestured towards the building, the outside of the floor still charred while repairs were underway.
jules
“Them.” Jules repeated the word. It felt like poison, and Jules had to pause for a moment to fully process it. “I guess it’s hard to tell,” He began again his tone lighter, joking “Maybe we should all just wear little stars on our coats.” It took Jules a second to realize the fact that he had outed himself as one of them, and quickly turned his attention to the dogs hoping that it wasn’t obvious. Taking a seat on the ground next to the man Jules’ camera moved smoothly from the dogs to the man. “It’s okay.” He shrugged. “I don’t wanna sound cliche or anything but I love animals. They don’t live for anyone but themselves.”
His lips pursed as his eyes flickered from the camera to his subject. “Did you know that there was 95 fires set in Seattle last year?” The fact was stated causally. “Not all of them are big. Most of them accidents. Fires are rarely set to hurt people. Most of the time people who set fires just want attention, but if that’s true then why this?” He shrugged. Even after all his own research on fires he still didn’t have an answer. “I guess I just want to know. Don’t you?”
Alaric looked up immediately when the man seemed to use the word we. We. But Alaric paused only for a second before he let out a small laugh, his words even softer, “maybe we should.” He tried not to think too much about it, it could’ve been just a joke, just some laughter to break the ice. Or it could’ve been a genuine slip, or maybe he’s loud and proud, and they’ve both now just know about each other. He gladly accepted the change in subject, this time letting the corgi climb onto the stranger’s lap, “Not cliche at all, they really do know how to live their lives.” Sometimes it feels as if humans are the most confused species about their own lives, it’s strange.
Alaric finally noticed how the camera was pointed towards him, but a whole other topic was brought up, or maybe brought back. “Well.. this don’t seem like most fires.” Though he was surprised by the number, probably mainly because most of them don’t make the news either. “It’s a little unnerving that’s for sure,” Alaric admitted, though little was an understatement. “Wait, are you actually rolling?” he asked, an eyebrow raised, staring nervously at the lens.
thai and chill || [ seb + alaric ]
seb
@alaricsummerfield
This was it. The pearly gates to Heaven were open–Alaric had invited Seb over for dinner and Netflix. In Seb’s opinion, this was first date material. He wasn’t sure if Alaric had meant it to be platonic, but he didn’t much mind as long as he got to look at that sculpture of a man–and, perhaps, accidentally touch his bicep every now and then. He’d told Alaric he would pick up the Thai food, so he did. He ordered what Alaric said he wanted and then some, just in case. Because, hey, maybe Seb would stay the night and need some leftovers in the morning.
Knocking on the door, Seb positioned himself in the archway with an elbow against the wall, his feet in a kickstand position. Very cool. “Did you order some take out?” He called as he waited.
They haven't really met up since the festival, but the two if them had definitely been texting. Probably quite a bit. Maybe a little bit of flirting involved. Though Alaric got closed off after the whole rah rah about the Clairs and just kept his head down to his work, Seb was easy to talk to. And then random chatter on a free night just lead him coming over within the span of an hour from the spontaneous invite. It's like he low key panicked when they confirmed that Seb was coming over and he stared at his mess of a home. Alaric attempted to tidy up though he's not sure he made it any much better by the time the door bell rang.Â
He pulled back the door to reveal Seb trying to stand there so presentable with their dinner and he just started laughing at the sight. He mimicked Seb, resting his own elbow on the door frame, "I think I ordered a cute delivery man too." Alaric took a step aside for Seb, "Come on in! Though I'm really sorry for the slight mess.." As he spoke, his dogs already curious and trotting over the new visitor with keen noses. "and them. I swear they'll be worn out in an hour," sighing as he closed the door, he gave a look over to Seb with that grin, it's definitely been awhile, "How have you been?"
[text] Are you SERIOUSLY bringing that up right now!? [text] …The least you could do is answer, wtf. [text] Go fuck yourself.

Owen sighed a little as he spotted the little memorial that still stood outside the Westlake Apartments. Unfortunately, his usual routine still took him right past the building, and he was too set in his ways to do anything about that. Plus it wasn’t like avoiding things ever did anything to make them go away, and forgetting the danger that still stood for people like him likely wasn’t a good idea. He moved forward when he recognized the person leaving flowers, frowning slightly in confusion as he looked at the dogs. When the man spoke, Owen shrugged, “No, you’re fine. Actually, I was just wondering … don’t the dogs like … try to eat the ferret? You are the ferret guy, right?”Â
Alaric’s eyebrows raised as he recognised the face, and smile spread across it, "Hey it's you! Oh uh.. I don't think we actually introduced ourselves. Alaric." He laughed softly at the strange question threw his way. "Oh yeah, absolutely. Only Rainee here really tried to be mean to her, but after a lot of supervision, they all seem to get along fine." He gave the mutt a rub behind the ears, she was probably the only one that really had much of a predator instinct to try and nip at the ferret. "Didn't think we'd meet again, how's things? After our ferret encounter."
jayrais:
He knows better than to pander to his sentiments, especially at a time like this. Hell– he doesn’t even know the people who died, except that they were like him. Clairs. And that was enough of a reason for them to die, apparently. Being a Clair was a equivalent to committing a crime worthy enough for death. How fucked up was that? Rai lets out a soft huff, tapping the mobile in his pocket, before his lips purse in thought. There’s no use thinking too much over it, at this point. Rai wasn’t going to get all emotional over strangers, MCR music blasting off his earphones or not. He turns away from the building, hands tucked in his coat pockets, only to pause when he catches sight of a familiar– well, dog. Rai actually registers the dog first than he does the owner, which was an accurate representation of his priorities. “Summerfield,” he greets, once he approaches the seated figure. “Not particularly, no, you can stay there until you rot, for all I care,” he replies, without much heat to his words. The bouquet near Alaric catches his eye, and he finds himself brimming with curiousity, “You knew the victims, I take it?” he asked nodding his head towards the direction of the flowers, “Or are you just here to mope around and look like a bleeding heart while you’re at it?”
He heard the familiar voice, his dogs already happy to see Rai, sniffing all over his legs. Alaric didn't really bother to pull them back in seeing he would probably be used to the dogs pawing all over him. "Aw Rai, you break my heart. What if I rot to death here, would you come for the funeral?" He placed a hand on his chest and feigned the hurt look on his face. He followed Rai's glance to the bouquet and he gave a lil shrug, "Maybe a lil bit of both?" He then shook his head, reaching out to readjust the flowers, "Not entirely at least. I've seen her a lot at the zoo, Who would've known? Didn't even noticed until she stopped coming." He didn't bother to tune in to the news of the fire at first, out of sight out of mind right? But it was everywhere, shoved in his face until he saw the list of names and faces. And it was hard to think, that Clairs could've been anywhere, and anyone. "And how have you been? Still up for some dog sitting?" He grinned as he offered, changing the subject.
“If I wasn’t acting, I would own a farm. Not like growing crops but maybe have a few animals like cows, and maybe an alpaca or a llama. I would chop wood all day. I would make a living doing that; it’s, like, an idealistic scenario for me. It’s very contrary to my upbringing, but maybe that’s the appeal to it.”Â

fkanez:
Ever since Julian saw the fire, the future, he had an insatiable need to see any fires started around the city, to study them. It was as if the more he knew about fires the easier it would be to stop the one he saw from happening. He hung back trying not to be obvious- Trying not to look guilty. After all wackos often revisited the scenes of their crimes, and nothing sets off red flags like a brown person with a camera. It wasn’t until Julian saw someone approach the building that he got closer. It wasn’t even his intention to get so close to the mourner, but something inside him ached to capture the emotion.  “Which way?” Jules asked surprised he was even noticed, their eyes glued to the small eye piece of their camcorder.  “The way I was going or the way I came from?” He reiterated the question while not exactly hoping for an answer. They lowered their camera- holding it at waist level. “Did you know someone who died here?” Their eyes moved to trace the rubble of the building. “Or are you just one of those people who bleeds for the whole world?”
He looked up at the strange reply that came his way. He chuckled as the stranger continued, “Both probably.” He was curious at first because it seemed like he was coming up to him instead of being on his way to somewhere. Well but perhaps sitting here with dogs and flowers was gonna draw at least some attention. But he didn’t think much of it, just expecting a few stares not really someone with a camcorder. “Kinda, I didn’t know her very well, but I’ve seen her around a lot. Didn’t even think she’d be one of them.” Clairs. he didn’t say it out loud but anyone would know what he was talking about. He shrugged with a smile growing, “Or maybe I should just bleed for the world.” The dogs immediately got excited by the stranger and his camcorder, immediately sticking their noses to the lens, almost rubbing onto it before Alaric tugged them backwards with a soft, “Hey, be nice.” His eyes lingered on the camcorder before bringing them back up, “Sorry about that, they think every camera’s for them. Any particular reason you’re out with that here?” He nodded towards the camcorder that he held.

romantaylorwest:
Muffin came everywhere with Roman. For a while Roman had tried to walk him off leash, but, although Muffin knew his name, he didn’t often care to come when called. So Roman brought him around on his day to day ventures attached to a rather fancy leash, which the fluffy dog was currently straining against as he barked his head off. “Muffin, it’s just a dog, calm down,” Roman mumbled, keeping a tight grip on Muffin’s leash so he didn’t take off. Past experience gave Roman the knowledge that, when it actually came down to it, Muffin would run away scared from every fight. Muffin was a bit of a wimp, and would make the worst guard dog imaginable, despite what google said about his breed. “Sorry, Muffin’s in a bit of a mood today.”Â
At first the dogs started the stand, their ears perked and tails wagging, but it wasn’t until the barking that Alaric turned his attention to see the Chow Chow pulling at the leash to say hi to his companions. His face lit up in the company another yet another dog though his own were probably more excited than he was. He gave them a few quick tugs on their leashes to calm them down as he spun around with butt still on the ground to greet the dog and his owner. “Aw no worries at all, he’s a beautiful dog.” Alaric gushed as she reached a hand out to the Chow Chow, letting him sniff before tempting to give him a pet. “Muffin, was it? How old is he?”
simbaherrara:
Curiosity was becoming blossoming feeling in him, urging him to move outside his usual patterns of habit. He’d chosen to leave Persephone behind as he took a step away from his work, only bringing along his keys and wallet as he left his house. ( Perhaps he should have brought his phone but he rarely used it anyways. ) He’d started out, simply planning to take a stroll around to pick up a tea or coffee to sip. He just- he found himself making his way towards a different destination once he’d started.    He’d attended the gala that had been in response to the fire, curious then as well. He’d watched the crowds, sketched out scenes later that night, and looked over the ones he’d made of his own vision. He wondered if there was a reason. What singled them out- made them see their future? What made them become targets? There were too many questions and Simba lacked all of the answers.    Coming up to the place of the fire, hands stuffed into the pockets of his jacket, he paused at the end of the block briefly. Sitting in front of the apartment building, the figures of dogs at his side, was someone already. Simba considered turning back and abandoning his curiosity but already he could imagine the scent of carcinogen in the air, drawing him closer to the site of loss.    “You’re not in the way,” Simba responded shortly, chin turned up as he came to a stop, gazing at the apartments with a closed off look. He considered moving on but the sight of the building had him pause longer than he expected. Looking down at the man and his dogs, his gaze flickered to the flowers that appeared to be fresh. “Did you know someone that passed in the fire?” He inquired quietly.
“Oh.. That’s good, thought it might’ve been a lil weird sitting down here for a moment or two,” He rubbed the back of his neck, looking up to see the familiar face. Though not in the way didn’t really equate to not weird. The dogs have gotten up and tugged along the leash to greet to new human, sniffing him up and down to say hi. Alaric followed the gaze to the building then back down to the flowers he placed, trying to figure out a way to answer.
“Not exactly. I kinda knew one lady,” Alaric began, trying to define his relationship to this matter without actually.. relating to this matter. “Well, I know her name and face, and I’ve talked to her a few times. But she’s a lil like you, coming to the zoo. I’d see her there every week, staring at the red pandas.” He lightly tugged the leashes once, getting the dogs to calm down around from assaulting him. “Never really got to find out why. But I just thought I should come pay respects here.”Â
Alaric tried to not mention himself being any part of the Clairs, when he himself still wasn’t convinced about it. And he tried to perk up, turning the conversation around, “And what brings you to this part of the city? I didn’t think we’d meet outside the zoo. Any more inspiration to draw coming to mind?”
Alaric placed a bouquet of flowers down by the Westlake Apartments building, taking a seat on the ground in front of it. The whole fire tragedy happened awhile back, those dead have had their proper funerals. Though he wasn't really that close to any of them, he did know one of them who always came by the zoo just to see the red pandas. And to think, a familiar face just gone like that; and also a Clair. He wasn't close enough to have gone for the funeral so he opted to wait out a week or two and while he was walking his dogs, pass by the site of accident. "At least they're probably in a better place, huh?" He smiled down to his furry companions who laid by his sides, stroking them as he took a while to just sit and think. He kept a low profile on the whole Clairs thing, taking neither sides nor acknowledging his was one of them but it was really getting out of hand. He never joined the CCS or any of the gatherings and somehow the recent events makes it a little bit scarier to do so. It never really occurred to him how much of a nuisance he might’ve been sitting on the sidewalk until someone came up to him. “Sorry, am I in your way?”

zacharysummers:
In hindsight, Zach really should’ve seen it coming the moment he hadn’t jumped in. But hindsight was 20/20, and Zach didn’t exactly have the best eyesight in the first place, so. He should be excused for not seeing Alaric shoving him into the water as a possibility.
Fifteen seconds.
It’d only taken a split second, but that’d still been a split second too long. Before he could react, he was being shoved right into the freezing lake, and his back hit the icy water before he could even yelp.
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
The water was frigid. It actually shocked him for a moment, and it took him a couple of seconds for his body to react to the almost numbing temperature. He pushed himself back up til his head broke the surface, where the wind practically assaulted him, which was even worse.
“Alaric!” he yelled, narrowing his eyes as he shoved his now wet bangs out of his eyes, “Jesus, how the hell are you still alive?” Admittedly, it didn’t feel as bad as Zach had thought it would, though he was pretty sure his organs were approximately twenty seconds from failing on him. “I guess it could be worse,” he said grudgingly, swimming over to his friend and practically throwing himself onto Alaric — body heat, because Zach was freezing, “it’s fucking cold, though. Holy shit.” It was exhilarating, though, he’d admit that much.
Alaric screamed as he leaped forward, enjoying that second of what would flying seem like before he crashed right back into the line of cold. His whole body locked up again, like frostbite nipping on every exposed skin, which was.. everything. He immediately burst out laughing as he got yelled at by his friend, their voices traveled and filled the silence around them, probably scaring off whatever fauna was around in the cold. “Well news flash buddy, you’re alive too.”
He threw an arm around Zach as he clung onto him for warmth, pulling him closer into a hug while they waded in the water for those few seconds, “Exactly. We could’ve been dead, but we’re not. So I’d say that’s a win for us to cross it off the bucket list.” It was almost like a gesture of thanks as he squeezed the hug before letting go and patting Zach’s back, “Alright 15 seconds, let’s get outta here.” He pulled them back to the pier and helped them up before he made a mad dash of the car to grab their towels. Even though their car was literally a few meters away, running naked in the cold felt extremely vulnerable..Â
He tossed a towel to Zach before grabbing their clothes, all ready to sit in the warm of the car once more. “Sooo?” He grinned after drying his hair and pulling the boxer back over his poor crotch probably half dead in the cold, “Think it was worth it?” They had dumb, and that means really really dumb things on their bucket list but this had to top on idiocy.
sebflxres:
Seb couldn’t help but smile at Alaric’s efforts. He knew it was strange that he’d fight a ghost but run from a clown, but Alaric’s encouragement was helpful. It was the offer to go in together that really sparked Seb’s interest. He knew the words probably stemmed from pity, but he’d accept the sentiment anyway. If Alaric wanted to escort him, he wasn’t about to deny the man that simple pleasure. “I don’t really need to go in there; just wanted to look around, maybe get an idea for a story,” Seb shrugged, trying to play off his sudden spark of excitement. “But if you wanted to check it out with me…Well, that would be okay.”
Well if it was for a story, Alaric didn’t think he would be any good trying to go in there alone to find one, definitely not his area of expertise. But he perked up at the idea that Seb would be willing to go in there if they went in together. “Absolutely, two is better than one and really, all I’m doing is trying to win something dumb for my brother.” Every year he’d always try and win something dumb from the founder’s festival and send it back home, it’s become a silly tradition really. “And who knows, you might find the scoop of the day.”
