I like to think maybe Velvette gave him some space to sleep whenever it was her turn to watch him.
(Idea for a fic I haven't gotten around to writing, actually)
That, the first time she was left in charge of their captive, Alastor looked absolutely dreadful (which by then he was failing to hide despite giving it his best shot). He'd been with them for a few days now, he was clearly still hurt, Vox hadn't actually thought to feed his prisoner most of the time and on top of it all he just looked so tired.
It's not pity or compassion to look after him a bit. Vox is just an idiot who would let Alastor die of thirst and starvation and sleep deprivation because he's just too chaotically obsessed with Alastor to think logically about all this, and Alastor, for all that he's given himself up as their prisoner, is too proud (i.e. too cautious and too distrusting) to ask for his very basic needs to be met.
So that first time that she's alone with him, she lets him eat, drink, hell, maybe even stretch his legs for a bit. Don't want the old guy to get bloodclots or whatever. And on that note, here's a bathroom, go make sure you don't get a UTI either. And maybe shower. Ugh, the stench of old cigarettes and alcohol and blood and sweat combined is pungent.
She ties him up again after, but instead of tying him to the chair, she just drops him onto a bed.
And honestly by that point it's too late for Alastor, but he tries to resist. This man damn near falls asleep as soon as he's horizontal because it's been days now, but he's not alone so he can't- he cannot give in.
But then Velvette goes to work behind her desk, working on new fashion designs, and she sits with her back toward Alastor and he knows she's not obsessed with him, in fact she probably cares the least out of all the Vees, so why would she turn around unless he's trying to escape? Which he won't. That's the deal. But the point is, if he just lies there, if he's quiet, if he keeps still... she won't even bother to look at him.
Maybe he can have a quick power nap. It's not like Velvette cares. And yes, his hands are bound, but he can wriggle under the covers. He can hide entirely, in fact. He can... He can let go, just for a little while.
It's not like he can stop it at this point. He hasn't slept in days. He will fall asleep sooner or later. This is probably the best option, then.
