The reason why I believe a showdown between Sansa and Cersei is imminent in season 8:
There are four clear antagonists in Sansaâs storyline - Joffrey, Cersei, Ramsey and Littlefinger, and so far she has been involved in bringing about each of their downfalls whether directly or indirectly.
Sansa telling Olenna about Joffrey being a monster is what set the plan of his murder into motion.
She was also wearing the necklace that carried the poison used to kill him.
Sansa is the one who convinced Jon to fight against Ramsey and take back Winterfell.
She also used his own hounds to kill him.
Petyr Baelish ( Littlefinger ):
Sansa along with Arya and Bran tricked Littlefinger into attending the trial and executed him.
Cersei was one of the earliest tormentors in Sansaâs life. She manipulated and emotionally abused her repeatedly and destroyed whatever romantic notions Sansa held about being Queen.
Her connection with Cersei is also emphasised in Season 7 and the audience is reminded of the impact Cersei had on Sansa. Sansa definitely learned how to be a successful political player from Cersei but she also learned how to not become her.
Sansa even says âif they want another Stark prisoner, they can come and take meâ which when paired with Arya saying she needs better guards seems to be foreshadowing the kidnapping plot.
Cersei also has not forgotten about Sansa and her involvement in the death of Joffrey and subsequently her other children. Throughout Season 6 and 7 Cersei arc has been about revenge on everyone who has wronged her like The High Sparrow, Septa Unella, Olenna Tyrell, Ellaria Sand among others. Sansa is someone she definitely counts among these people.
Them confronting each other will also be a moment of satisfaction as it will depict how much the power dynamic has changed between them as Sansa is no longer the âlittle doveâ Cersei can dominate over.
I also believe Sansa is definitely the YMBQ as she indirectly led to the death of all of Cerseiâs children who were what Cersei held dearest to her.
Narratively, it makes sense for Sansa to play a part in bringing about Cerseiâs downfall.
