Feeling a bit betrayed that in the original Hogwarts Legacy game files, you could not only take any companion into the world with you, you could also take two companions.
For example, if you took Sebastian and Poppy with you, your relationship with Sebastian will improve, your relationship with Poppy will improve, and Sebastian and Poppy’s relationship will improve.
There was a point system between all students, and there was different relationship levels like “rival, hate, dislike, indifferent, cordial, friendly, companion, familiar, love interest” and maybe more. You could also give them a “romantic gift” at a certain level to boost your relationship and change the dialogue to a romantic dialogue.
It seemed to resemble the Fire Emblem: Three Houses dating system.
There was also a house point system for when you broke the rules in school in front of other people.
It would’ve been nice to hear the banter between all of the NPCs while on outings. (For instance, Ominis hated almost everyone and almost everyone hated him bc he’s misunderstood. This could’ve been a great opportunity for him to make friends. Natty and Sebastian hate eachother bc of different morals. Amit and Sebastian are surprisingly friends. Sebastian and Ominis are companions from the get-go which is the 7th highest relationship level out of 10.) Different dynamics like that.
(Everyone starts off “indifferent” to the MC but I’m sure if there’s a sequel it’ll start off higher.)
And apparently you could also play matchmaker and give (insert character)’s romantic gift to (insert character).
Hopefully they use this stuff in the sequel.
So yeah if anyone says “they didn’t put in dating bc of their age” that’s simply not true 😅 They were working on something, they ran out of time. The relationship mechanic seemed very complex and many hours went into it. Not to mention Hogwarts Mystery has dating but with a much more simple approach than this.
Sebastian even still has his original voice lines during the Ghost of Our Love side quest where you two can find the date spot by following the candles together which is a remnant of this companion mechanic.
