~ I just realized I have not posted anything here since November..
"Good." she murmured, rubbing her eyes. She felt a tad bit groggy, though she knew that would pass soon enough. A cup of tea should wake her up. It always does. "How did you sleep?" she asked as she slowly sat up and stretched a bit. As she did so, she had completely forgotten about her injured ankle. It didn't seem to matter though. She didn't feel any pain when she moved it. In fact, she only remembered when she looked down at it an noticed that bandage. Carefully moving it more, it didn't seem injured at all. No pain. She smiled a little, relieved.
"It stopped hurting. That's nice." she spoke as she got off the bed carefully, trying to test how far she could go without feeling anything. So far so good. Seemed like the herbs had worked wonders. She made her way over to the dressing table to brush through her messy hair.
"I slept well, actually," he said, slowly shifting about and eventually rising from bed. He scratched his cheek and the stubble there, eyes lazily resting on Rose. She was moving around far easier and without any pain, which was quite a relief, and he shrugged on a tunic with little ease as he mulled over the progress.
"We find ourselves at quite an advantage," he said with a chuckle. "Two herbalists, alchemists and healers in our own right... You're going to be just fine, my darling." He bent down towards her for a wee kiss, a hand brushing stray wisps of white hair from her cheek as he did so. Then, just to be a cheeky git, he kissed her nose afterward.
"I'm sure there is nothing we can't handle." she chuckled as she brushed through her white hair. "At least when it comes to health related problems."
It's been a while since she had felt so at ease. Just sitting there with him watching her brush her hair felt so natural, like it had been part of their routine for ages. It made her hope that this would last for as long as life would let them have it. She looked back at him and smiled. It was a warm, loving smile. "I didn't expect this to be that nice." she murmured. "Having you around me just feels right."
After a short pause, she chuckled again. "Probably sounded a lot more sappy than intended."
~ I just want to announce that I am slowly coming out of hiatus! c: I will start to go through all my drafts one by one and if you want to drop some, feel free to let me know. Maybe I will drop some of mine on my sideblog to start some fresh ones to get back into the groove of writing.
~ I just want to announce that there will be very limited activity on both my blogs. I don't know how long this will last. There are several big changes in my personal life that I have to deal with. I'm really stressed out and I just don't have to time and energy to focus much on anything.
~ Little update: I'm in the middle of moving. It's been very stressful lately since my current landlord is making things difficult. I'll probably be more active again in October if things go smoothly.

"You better get used to it." she chuckled, placing a soft kiss on his cheek as they settled in bed together. It was nice and comfortable. Her ankle didn't hurt one bit thanks to his care, his scent filled her nose as they laid there are snuggled up to one another. She too, could get used to it and she wanted to. If there was anything she wanted to work out, it was this. It was well worth it. He was worth it.
"Good night, Regis." she murmured, holding him close as she slowly started to fall asleep. Her dreams were vivid and mostly about him and the life they might live together. She dreamt about them traveling, spending time exploring cities and the surrounding nature. Just them together fiinding joy in the little things. Finding a good book in a library, foraging for interesting herbs, going for walks. It seemed to be a simple life, but worth living. When she awoke in the early hours of the morning, she barely remembered any of her dreams, which was a shame. Despite that, she knew they had been pleasant. She felt well-rested.
In the morning, he roused long after her. He could tell by the sound of her breathing, even and slow, that she was still sleepy beside him, but the sound of her heartbeat gave her away. She was awake, not asleep.
Turning his head, his eyes roamed her for a moment before he finally found his voice and spoke.
"Good morning," he said, voice low and groggy. "Sleep well?"
It appeared that she had. She seemed as if the rest had worked wonders for her. Shifting, he sat up rather slowly and ran a hand through his unkempt hair. Sunlight was pouring into the room, and he could tell that it was late morning.
Good, he thought. Haven't slept in this late for ages.
"Good." she murmured, rubbing her eyes. She felt a tad bit groggy, though she knew that would pass soon enough. A cup of tea should wake her up. It always does. "I'm sure I got a lot of catching up to do." she smiled. The thought of them expanding workshop and the garden, growing a bigger variety, sharing it all together was making her almost giddy with excitement. She leaned forward and placed a kiss on his forehead. "I'm really looking forward to you settling in properly." she said, looking around the room, wondering how things might change now he shared everything with him. Rose had no problem with letting him make some adjustments. If it was needed to make him feel more at home, so be it.
The herbalist looked back down at him as he examined her ankle. He was so gentle. It made him wonder how much strength he truly posessed, being a vampire. Did he have to hold back? Was he scared to harm her? It was a passing throught, but she wondered how comfortable he really was being with a human. He told her he didn't mind before, but she wondered if it was the whole truth. Compared to him, she was fragile.
Regis didn't know it, could never have guessed, but there was a certain look in his eyes as he watched her. It was love. His eyes shone with it. Allowing himself a soft smile, he began speaking.
After he finished tending to her healing wound, he rose to his feet and wandered off. He needed to clean up. As he washed his hands in the kitchen basin, the scent of rosemary filled the room. It was a good disinfectant, and he would never leave any germs behind.
Afterward, with a bit of struggling involved on her part, they went upstairs. He lit a candle in her bedroom. It was, all in all, an interesting day. They settled into bed together and he drew the wolf fur throw blanket higher to cover them, thoroughly worn out from the day's events. With a smile, he drew her close and dipped his chin for a soft, tender kiss.
"I could get used to this, you know," he murmured, voice a low rumble. "Lying here in bed with you, falling asleep beside you. Living here, helping those in the surrounding areas, adding on to your cottage. It's a wonderful life we'll build together, my darling. I hope you sleep well tonight."
"You better get used to it." she chuckled, placing a soft kiss on his cheek as they settled in bed together. It was nice and comfortable. "You'd have to fuck up pretty badly for her to not like you." Hunter chuckled. "You'll be fine. I'm sure she won't mind."
He was certain his sister would take it well. Rose would probably more focused on the fact that they were both still injured. Hunter was still limping a little. The journey had been exhausting and he was sure he'd get an earful once Rose found out he traveled this far with an injured leg.
Once the cottage came into view, he noticed the flowers in the garden out front were in full bloom. A lovely sight. He rarely got to see the cottage like this as he usually left as soon as spring came around. Perched on the edge of the roof sat Fen, Rose's trusty magpie. The bird curiously eyed up the two, especially Niamh. Fen was wary of strangers and kept his distance for now, cawing. "Should have known the fowl would greet us first." Hunter commented, looking up. The corvid cawed again.
Niamh's feet were aching. They were well bandaged in the boots she wore, but walking on them meant it was taking longer for the injuries to heal. She worried more about Hunter's leg, though.
"He's a pretty bird," she said. Knowing that Rose had an affinity for animals helped Niamh relax a little. She gave the bird a little wave and a smile.
She turned her attention to the garden. It was beautiful. Maybe one day she could have a garden like this. Niamh hoped so. A garden and a little cottage where she could be safe.
For now, though, she needed to focus on the present. She needed to heal and to find a way to earn money to travel home. That was all dependent on if Rose would let her stay...Hunter said she would, but Niamh was still uncertain.
The magpie kept an eye on them as they approached the cottage before hopping out of sight, cawing. Hunter was well aware the corvid was on his way to let Rose know they were here. Considering the weather, his sister was probably foraging or working in the garden on the other side of the home.
Once they made it to the porch, Hunter peaked through the window in an effort to check if Rose was inside. He didn't want to startle her after all. There was no trace of her inside from what he could see, so he opened the door and led Niamh inside. "You should sit by the fire and rest." he said, gesturing towards the fireplace. The smell of herbs hung in the air, as well as the faint smell of baked goods. Seemed like Rose had been busy baking this morning, which the mercenary was very happy about. He was starving.
"I'll go check behind the cottage. She's probably there." he said before he ventured back outside.
~ Just letting people know I'm on hiatus until I feel more like writing again. My mental health has reached an all-time low and I need time.
~ I'm going to be fairly busy this week, so don't expext much activity here.

With the physical state the two of them were in, they'd decided that it would be for the best that they recovered before trying to help Niamh return to home to Skellige. Hunter had offered to let her come to the cottage he shared with his sister, since she had no money and nowhere else to go.
The trip, for the most part, was bearable. It was slow going with the both of them being injured, but thankfully nothing overly exciting happened on the way.
"I hope your sister likes me," Niamh said. The cottage had just come into view and she felt a bit nervous. "Are you sure she won't mind that I came with you?"
"You'd have to fuck up pretty badly for her to not like you." Hunter chuckled. "You'll be fine. I'm sure she won't mind."

hc + 💌 for a romance-themed headcanon
~ Rose is a sucker for romance. Dinner by candlelight? Moonlit walks? Sign her up! She also loves to both give and receive little gestures of affection. Give her flowers? She will love it, especially if you sneak in some herbs she likes.

~ Rose once had a brief afair with a barmaid in Novigrad. Although it was more of a fling, she regretted having to let it go. They really liked each other, but agreed it wouldn't work out in the longterm, so they parted ways. At least that's what she likes to tell herself. In reality she was really hurt and disappointed. Rose never told anyone about this. Not even Hunter knows. It's not something she likes to talk, let alone think about.
"Thanks again" Hunter nodded, taking the bowl as the healer left. He didn't hesitate, digging in right away. It had been ages since he had a decent meal. On top of that, this stew was good. He ate it like he hadn't eaten anything in days, which was not far from the truth. At that moment, he didn't care much for manners. The question caught him off guard. He looked at her, thinking. Skellige? It would take a while to get there for sure. The next harbor where someone might be able to get on a ship to the isles was probably in Novigrad. That journey alone wouldn't be simple. It had gotten increasingly more dangerous around the bigger cities. Once on a ship, there would be the voyage to the isles. He had never gone to Skellige, but he knew the risks if one was to get there.
"The journey to Novigrad might take a week or longer." he mused. "If you have a good horse, it would make things easier of course. Getting someone to sail you there is a different story. I'm not sure how long it takes to sail there, but it's a few days at sea for sure." he shrugged. "I hope you don't plan to get there on your own." She was in no condition to travel that sort of distance, not to mention the dangers she could face on the way.
Her heart sank. She was so far from home.
The thought of such a journey was daunting and frightening. Niamh knew she wasn't stupid, but she knew she was woefully sheltered when it came to the world outside of her island home. She'd spent the past few years stuck in a tiny room, with no chance to learn anything about where she was.
"I don't have any other choice," she said after a moment, "I have nowhere else to go and Skellige is my home."
She set the nearly empty bowl of stew on the side table, suddenly not feeling so hungry anymore. Anxiety was beginning to gnaw at her. She tugged her shawl - her glamoured sealskin - tighter around her.
Tears pricked at her eyes. She tried to blink them away.
"I haven't been home in so long. I miss it." Her voice cracked. "I just want to see my family."
Seeing her on the verge of tears made Hunter almost regret being so honest. He perfectly understood wanting to go home. From her reaction, she most likely had not been home for a very long time. The thought of her traveling to Skellige by herself was daunting. Hunter thought she probably wouldn't even make it to Novigrad on her own. "You should not go alone." he said as he put down his empty bowl. "It's dangerous." He wished he could be more encouraging, but he wasn't quite sure how. Going alone was dangerous. That was a fact. However, there would be ways to make things easier, improving her chances. A horse would make the journey to Novigrad faster and less risky. Then the realization hit him that even if she made it there, nobody would take her to the isles for free. Sailors, if they took strangers, usually only did so in exchange for a fee. Those were not always cheap.
Hunter thought about what options there might be. He didn't have a horse, but he might be able to help get one. Maybe he could call in some favors. He had been around. "Maybe there is a way I can help you." he said, trying to cheer Niamh up. "We will think of something."
~ Did all my drafts here. Sideblog is next!
"She lives south from Scala. It's a cottage in the woods." he responded. Thinking about it, walking home shouldn't take too long. Maybe a little more than a week with his injuries. Surely he'd wait till it was safe for him to travel, but he'd prefer to fully recover at home. He was a guest here and didn't want to be a burden or overstay his welcome.
"It's very nice." he smiled and nodded, thinking about the cottage. Even though he helped refurbish the cottage and did a lot of the woodwork, Rose was the one who had really turned it into a proper home. "It got everything one might need and it got a nice garden." he murmured. He never had much of a green thumb, so his sister's ability to maintain a garden like that was impressive.
A cottage in the woods with a garden. That sounded like a dream. Maybe one day she could have something like that. First, though, she needed to get better. She needed to go home so her family would know that she was all right.
The healer returned with two bowls of stew for them, setting one each on the small bedside tables. "Here you go. I'll leave you to dinner and then to rest. Let me know if you need anything." She smiled, then she was gone again.
Niamh sat up and picked up the bowl. When was the last time she had a real meal? Not just scraps thrown on the floor or bitter roots dug up from the dirt? She felt ravenous, but told herself not to eat fast.
"Do you know how far away the Skellige Isles are from here?" she asked him finally.
