Anniversary: 24 years ago today Star Wars: Episode II – Attack Of The Clones hit theaters in the U.S. and I was there. I re-watched my widescreen edition of the movie on DVD recently and made this illustration for the anniversary of the film.

Some words about my process… The illustration on this Retro Button Pin was the first I made knowing that it was going to be a very small pinback. I made sure every part of this illustration was smooth. The source image for this was a Star Wars: The Black Series action figure of an Emperor’s Royal Guard. The pencil drawing I made as the template for my illustration was done quickly. It was the vector illustration that took time. The action figure’s helmet is shiny: a dark cherry red and glossy. It’s not easy to decide what to include and what not to. But when it’s a line drawing type of illustration, less is more. Artists are given a task. They make complicated things simple. Illustration is a visual language. Although I’m writing this little description for the sake of explaining what the process is like, it’s making a drawing or illustration where I excel. I love every aspect of it. Sure, it’s tough but so am I.
