ofcgenesis:
genesis is miserable. “i don’t know. i guess i just really want her to like it, you know? and she’s not here which makes it harder–” though always critical of genesis, her mother has been through alot. now married, genesis sympathized with how traumatic the divorce must’ve been. more so, how awful it is to see her ex-husband with someone else. now, her mom has to watch her daughter get married to someone (she thinks) won’t last. while genesis claims she doesn’t need her mother’s stamp of approval… she obviously sort of does. somewhere deep down she really does. she’s second guessing herself. again, something pretty out of the norm for genesis. she’s a woman with a plan. knows exactly what she wants and when she wants it. the dress seems to have put her out of her depth.
she looks at the gown he picks up. “it is pretty wild…and blush. she’d have a heartattack if i walked out in a pink gown.” she murmurs, touching the soft tulle fabric. the soft pout on her lips being ironed away as a smile starts to form. a princess. finally someone who wasn’t hal truly gets it. she lets out a little chuckle, though a few stray tears escape her. filled with bittersweet emotion. of course, she’s so glad she brought alek. she needed his advice. but, she couldn’t help but feel just a little sad. her own mother wasn’t there to cheer her up. she swipes them away quickly– thank god for waterproof mascara. “it’s gonna be at a literal castle so, yeah i’ve gotta go all princess.” she replied. “yeah, i’ll try this one on. but can you pick out something that isn’t this ugly next time?” she teases.
Alek has always been extremely empathetic. From the time he was a little kid, he couldn’t watch those commercials with the pictures of puppies or starving kids. The second Sarah McLachlan’s In The Arms Of An Angel started to play he was gone. As he’s grown older though, his empathy has only doubled. The amount of people he loves has too. As a kid it felt like it was Hal and him against the world. These days it feels a lot more like they’ve been welcomed by the world. It’s a nice feeling, but every so often those old feelings come back. Especially when someone he loves is going through it. Genesis may technically be his cousin in law, but if you asked Alek, she was his sister. Knowing what it’s like to feel abandoned or not accepted by a parent--- He hates seeing her go through it too. He can imagine that going through it during the most important time of your life only doubles the pain. His mother hasn’t visited him in so many years, but he hopes that on his wedding day, she’ll be there. “I know. We all want our moms to love us no matter what and to be proud, you know? But I bet she is. You’re a new member of my family but I’m proud of you. You know? I bet she’s just scared and it’s hard to see the love even if it’s there.”
At the end of the day. Alek may not be the smartest person. He never got into advanced classes or finished at the top of his class. Sometimes simple things go over his head. But when it comes to affairs of the heart, he knows what he’s talking about. There’s no way a mother could feel anything less than love and pride for a daughter like Genesis. And if she did, then she wasn’t a very good mother at all. But he hoped it wasn’t the second option. Even if he was wrong, at least he got her to smile. A wedding shouldn’t be planned with a frown on your face. “Alright deal. You put on the ugly peppa pig dress and I’ll go find something worthy of a Disney princess.” He’s grinning from ear to ear as he runs off, leaving her behind with the dress. There’s a million options in the store. But his focus is on something big, elegant, incredible, and over the top without looking cheesy. If it doesn’t scream Disney Princess then he doesn’t want it--- Until of course he sees a dress that screams Disney Queen. A huge white lacey gown with jewls that sparkle in the light. They aren’t cheap imitations but the real deal. Along with the low cut, the maximum poof, and the long train, he’s certain that it’s perfect. Taking it carefully from the rack, he makes his way back just in time to see Gen try on the first dress.
