Finally warm enough to swim (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶). I like the pool, but I hate the beach. The sand gets everywhere and it’s uncomfortable. I always end up sunburnt too.

I have never watched Star Wars, so I had to look up what this meant (ᵕ—ᴗ—). I agree with him though! “I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere” , yes exactly that. He gets it.

Favorite movie?

I've already talked about Window to Paris being my favorite comfort film here, but also Rusalochka. Easily Rusalochka.

All of them, but very specifically the Soviet animated version from 1968. We had it on VHS and I watched it so so much. Maybe I just inherently knew that it was a queer story back then. We also had the Disney version, it was one of the four Disney movies we had in the house growing up, and it was good, but she didn't die at the end. I thought that was such a let down.

Fun side note, we also had the animated Anastasia film and one of my sisters was entirely convinced that it was about her and that we had kidnapped her. She actually ran away because of it. No real loss, but unfortunately she came back.

I would probably have a stronger opinion on hemmed v. unhemmed in my personal life if I lived somewhere I could actually fly a flag outside, but I live in the world's shittiest apartment with seven other guys in a room and I move often so... while it's not an Amazon flag it does the job.

Reading the synopsis and watching the trailer and considering that I am such a camp gay at this point in my life, that is probably a good assumption, but 😬 I have never actually seen it. Was it hard growing up in poverty next to Ilya Rozanov?

so... yeah, growing up in poverty was hard, and like obviously, but also, it was shit for everyone, we were all in the dumpster and the dumpster was on fire and it was the nineties.

GRWM, five things growing up that would send my western roommates into a coma.

Food. Okroshka, my beloved, but on the otherhand seaweed salad, we went through weeks and months at a time eating nothing but kasha and seaweed salad because that was what we could get that was nutritional. Horrible. Awful. I gagged the first time I had sushi as an adult because of the nori.

Norilsk. Full stop. Mom says that the only good thing about Norilsk was leaving it, I was seven and still agree. I got pneumonia when I was five and have never recovered.

Only having two beds for a family of seven and for a while a family of ten when my grandparents and one of my aunts were living with us in Moscow. Not the worst thing in winter when they turned off the heat though.

School in Russia in the nineties. Our school in Norilsk also had the heat cut off and no one was paying the teachers so none of us were having a good time. I qualified for funding and a sports program in Moscow when I was twelve, and that's an entirely different story, but at least there was heat and we were fed not seaweed salad.

We lived like snakes, we dropped out of mom's vagina fully self-sufficient. Anna started babysitting the rest of us before she ever started school, by the time I was six I was getting on the bus by myself to go pick up more cans of seaweed and this was in Norilsk, so it was fucking dark all of the time. One of my roommates won't even ride mass transport here during the daytime or do any shopping because it is "sketchy." Babes, you're twenty seven, the tiny lady at the bodega is capable of handing your ass to you in a plastic grocery bag, but then she would have to bleach her floor after scraping you off of it and she's not going to do that on a Tuesday at noon, is she, Dave?
