( a starter for @alethiomcter )
mijoo stifled a yawn as she collected the papers from the printer and put them in a nice folder to bring to taeoh. the heels that she had on today were hurting her feet, and being at work just didn’t feel exciting to her at the moment. then again, work was never exciting for her. she hated this job. she hated taeoh ( well, perhaps hated was too strong of a word … disliked? ), and the only thing keeping her here was that she needed to pay the bills. she sighed as she ran a hand through her hair, heels clacking against the floor as she stepped into taeoh’s office.
“here are the documents that you requested,” she noted matter of factly, setting it down on his desk. there was something unsettling about the way he looked at the moment. he almost looked a bit … sad. there were some rumors around the office about something happening with his engagement, but she always presumed those kinds of engagements were just done for business and that he had no feelings towards the girl anyway. or maybe he did. whatever it was, he probably deserved it.
“is there anything else that you need?” she asked, clasping her hands in front of her as she waited for an answer.
Taeoh sat at his polished desk. Or rather, he was laying slumped across it feeling rather sorry for himself. His face was completely blank, his brown eyes that were usually full of (somewhat greasy) charm were empty and soulless as he stared into nothingness heaving the occasional heavy hearted sight.
To anyone it looked like he was going through some genuine trouble—heartbreak to be specific—but the truth of the matter was that he wasn’t so much cut up over his broken engagement, but how it was ended. How could he have gotten dumped by her? Taeoh was still in shock. Not so much a broken heart as wounded pride had him moping all over the office much to the chagrin of the rest of the employees who had to put up with him with false sympathy (he knew about the rumours flying around the building but he really didn’t care; if anything it made him feel a bit better since it indicated that he was still important enough to be talked about). Like... wasn’t he the full fucking package?
He was rich, he was handsome, he owned (bought with daddy’s money of course) a big modern house near the Han river, had a couple of luxury cars in his garage, and access to a driver when he didn’t feel like dealing with Seoul traffic. Taeoh couldn’t possibly see why any woman—especially a woman of some social standing keen on becoming a socialite—would cut him loose. So what if he had a history of being a bit of a playboy? It wasn’t his fault that women draped themselves all over him with the exception of a few rare cases.
One of those rare cases happened to be his secretary come personal assistant Kang Mijoo who had just waltzed into his office prompting him to sit up and look somewhat business like, thought there was mild frown on his face upon seeing the folder in her well manicured hands. They’d been working side by side for three years and their professional relationship had never gotten better and had instead stagnated in a swamp of petty disagreements, snide remarks, sassy comments, and occasional full out arguments at the top of their lungs that the rest of the floor pretended not to hear.
Taeoh’s knee-jerk reaction to her question was an overwhelming urge to repeat it in a mocking fashion—being a pro just seemed to fly out the window every time she was around him—but quickly quelled it in an effort to not pick a fight. He was too tired for that shit today. So instead he gave her a quick practiced smooth smile that was as soulless as he felt.
“Thank you, Miss Kang. Could you get me a coffee? Milk and one sugar this time.” And maybe dump half a bottle of whisky in it too? He waved his hand dismissively as he turned his attention to the folder that was now open on his desk. “Hold on. This folder isn’t complete. Where’s the copy of the contract that we signed with them? I specifically told you—” Taeoh cut himself short and sighed irritably.
“Don’t tell me. It was that incompetent bastard Ahn who lost it. I bet my fucking left foot that is.”
