Going Up? || Rain and Alex

Rain didn’t know where to go, she couldn’t go home they would find her there. She assumed that would be the first place they would look for her. She didn’t mean to make them even more mad they they already were at her, she liked staying under the radar. She was always a few steps away from being forced into the outer districts. Now this happened? She was just walking around, when an official came up to her. He was poking fun, talking about her dead dad. About how he was a traitor, a freak just like her. She just snapped, as anyone could. She punched that Official right in the face, bringing him to the ground.

And now she was here, hiding in a mall. It was pretty big, maybe they wouldn’t find her here. She went on the elevator, running a hand through her long black hair. What was she going to do? Suddenly someone else got onto the elevator with her, they were the only too. The deep voice talked to her, saying her last name. She let out a short laugh, shaking her head. “You found me huh? Congrats.” Suddenly the elevator stopped, and she held onto the rail. Rain shook her head, “Great. Wonderful.” She held on tightly to the side of the elevator. “I’m fine, I’m not worried. You shouldn’t be either, I’m sure you’ll get me where I need to be as soon as the storm is over.”

So Rain was expecting to be sought after by some officials. Alex hadn't quite expected that, probably because most people that were found were running from Officials and didn't expect to be found, even though that was barely likely. But of course, the one time that Alex really didn't want to catch who he was looking for, he found her accidentally.

"Hey, I'm not the enemy. You have no reason to believe me, but I'm not," Alex said, figuring that if they were going to be stuck in the elevator, the least that he could do was make sure it was a civil experience. "I'm not scared, but being stuck in an elevator with an Official is hardly anyone's idea of a good time. Not even mine," Alex said with a small chuckle. A few specific Officials especially, such as Tyler and Alec's father - he was just a scary guy all around. "This is just my job, I'm just doing what I'm told to do."

Going Up? || Rain and Alex

This was the part of being an Official that Alex hated. He knew that there were some corrupt people in charge, and some thoroughly fucked up things that happened. Sure, he took advantage of the power that he had in order to keep Lily and Ella safe, but that was a different story. He was doing it to keep the two of them together, but to save his own ass from something that he had done. And, from the rumors that he'd heard circulating about Rain and her father made it possible that this was one of the situations that he hated. And of course he was the one sent to fetch Rain and bring her to the headquarters, probably because he hadn't been brutal enough recently and had admittedly gone soft recently, thanks largely to Cody.

A large part of Alex hoped that maybe he wouldn't be able to find the girl, and he knew that if he did then he'd have to do bring her in. So he was sort of half-assing his job, mostly looking around the mall rather than looking for Rain, when he spotted her go in to an elevator. Fuck he mumbled under his breath as now he was forced to go after her, but he played it cool but quickening his pace just a bit in order to catch up to the elevator, and he stepped on. "Ms. Peters," he said with a curt nod towards her, not yet letting on that anything out of the ordinary was going on, though his formality didn't help that too much. The elevator doors closed and it began to rise to the second floor, when it suddenly stopped with a jolt before a clash of thunder was heard. He had hoped to get home before the storm hit, but apparently he wasn't going to be too lucky. "Stay calm, alright? We're going to be fine," he said, his Official instincts kicking in a bit, even though he wasn't really sure if the girl was going to panic or not.

Do I Wanna Know || Cody and Alex

The tightness in Cody’s chest was constricting and he was surprised that he hadn’t fallen to the floor yet. There was so much he wanted to say, but fear had crawled inside of him and was slowly beginning to eat at him, starting with his words. He ached to be able to speak telepathically to Alex, to make him know how sorry he was. And how it hadn’t meant anything. It was just a dance. But the way he was feeling made it seem as if though he had gone and proclaimed his love to the guy. It was all the doubt, knowing that he wasn’t good enough for Alex or anyone else.

"It was just… a-a dance, I-" It wasn’t fair that his voice wasn’t working. It wasn’t fair that the fear and panic of losing the only person he had was rendering him useless. He looked at him then, his eyes blurry and his hands shaking. He probably looked like a mess, but maybe if Alex saw how weak he was he’d just leave him now and realize Cody wasn’t anything special. The image Alex put in his head did not help one bit. Him going home with someone else, but of course that wasn’t the point. "That- please just… please. Just. Wait…" He found the closest wall and let himself sink down as he tried breathing.

The attack was worse because he was disapointed in himself for breaking in front of Alex after just one fight. He was weak. He was stupid. And he just wanted to die. Not literally as he tried desperately to breath even as everything began to blur and darken around him.

Alex wanted to be able to leave and try to clear his mind, some way or another. Maybe he could ask Lily if he could watch Ella for the evening, since that toddler seemed to have the greatest distraction and calming powers of anyone he'd ever met. But another part of him wanted to wait and let Cody explain himself, at least a little bit, even if it only made Alex more upset. But when Cody began to try to talk, it was hardly coherent and Alex found him even more difficult to understand that Ella's butchered English.

But it was when Cody slunk to the ground that Alex couldn't find it in him to be angry anymore. Cody felt horrible, that much was evident, and Alex couldn't let it go on for any longer because the moment that Cody showed these signs of distress, Alex could feel his heart tightening up. The only thing that he could think to do was drop down next to him and gather Cody in to his arms, holding him tight. "It's alright, Cody. I promise," he said, pressing a kiss to the top of Cody's head as he could feel his anger melting away and being replaced by guilt. Even though Cody had been the reason he'd been upset in the first place, it had never been his intention to make him feel like this in return. "Tell me what I need to do to help you calm down," he said quietly, unsure of what it was that he needed to do.

Do I Wanna Know || Cody and Alex

It felt as if though everything was playing out in slow motion. It took Cody a moment to realize that Alex was pissed. And it wasn’t because he was slightly hungover, his defenses had kicked in and it was as if though he had hit pause. He didn’t want Alex looking at him that way or talking to him with hurt lacing every word he said. His stomach dropped at the realization that Alex had gone to the party… and seen him with Kader. But- they had only danced. But still, he was drunk and who knew how it looked like to Alex. He wished he would have never gone, but there was no use wishing and hoping.

Mistakes were something he was familiar with. This was one. A big mistake. That was clearly hurting the person he cared most for. “Alex…” His heart was beating awfully loud and he was sure the guilt was going to suffocate him. He took slow, long breaths, the panic threatening to make him fall over. “No, please.” It was hard for him to talk and he hated himself for letting his emotions get the better of him. The fact that a panic attack was threatening to imprison him probably made him seem all that much more guilty. “Please. I can- explain.” His breathing became heavier and his hands were clearly shaking. “I was drunk. I didn’t- I’m sorry.” He couldn’t say any more for talking made his breathing that much harder and fearing that he might say the wrong thing.

"Oh yeah, you were drunk?" Alex said, condescension lacing every word. He could tell that this clearly wasn't easy for Cody and he honestly sounded like he was about to have an asthma attack, but at the moment Alex was seeing red and he couldn't find it in himself to care at the moment. "I'm not stupid, Cody. I've been drunk countless times but never once have I been untrue to someone. When you actually give a shit about someone, then you don't do shit like that, Cody! It doesn't matter how drunk you are, if you cared that much about me then it would've been nagging at the back of your mind all night," he said.

After Alex's little tirade, he managed to calm down at least a bit so that he wasn't constantly seething with every word that he said. "You know what? I got drunk last night too, and I could've easily gone out to the bar and picked up someone and brought them home, especially since I was hurt and pissed off from seeing you, but guess what? I didn't, and you know why? Because even though I clearly shouldn't, I love you and I never would've done something like that to hurt you," Alex said, running a hand through his hair with a sigh.

Do I Wanna Know || Cody and Alex

Cody couldn’t remember how he got home from the party, but somehow he was home and in his bed. And clothed. That was very important because there was that one time- nope, he wasn’t going there. He groaned and sat up slowly, turning to his bed side table he found ibuprofen and water. He must have taken them last night before bed because that’s what he did when going to bed drunk. It was his secret to not having a hangover. Sure, his head felt fuzzy and his stomach felt like it was in knots, but it wasn’t too bad. He reached for his phone and text Alex, hoping he could coax him into bringing him food because damn, was he hungry. Good morning. I’m dying. He set his phone down, but picked it back up quickly. Not really. Just hungover. He yawned and stretched before looking at his phone again. I miss you btw.

Leaving the phone on his bed, he went to take a leak. As he handled his business, he tried to remember the night before. Slowly, memories started to come back to him. He didn’t remember everything, but there was an anxiety eating away at him like if he was guilty of something. Looking in the mirror as he washed his face and brushed his teeth to rid the terrible taste in his mouth, he remembered the dancing with a certain guy. But no, Kader kind of scared him… why would he dance with him? Especially like that. He shook away the thought and went to get his phone. He tried calling Alex again, eleven times. Worry ate away at him because that’s how he was, a worrier. PLS text me asap. I’m worried. He hit send and went out to the living room, noticing that Thea wasn’t home.

Finn bumped into him as if though wanting to be fed so he went to do that. If you don’t text me back, I’m gonna place a missing person’s add. Okay, he was waiting thirty minutes and if Alex didn’t contact him, he was going over. It was the fifteen minute mark and he was throwing on a t-shirt, rummaging through his sock drawer when he heard knocking- or well, banging. He ran to the door and swung it open, relief flooding him when he saw Alex. “Oh, thank god. I thought it was someone coming to tell me you had died in the line of fire. Don’t do that to me, Alex. Why weren’t you answering your phone? I know it wasn’t off because it actually ringing. And… wait- what’s wrong?” He stepped aside to allow him in so nobody would see them. “Thea’s not here.” He added.

Alex's first reaction when Cody opened his door and began rattling on and on about how worried he was, was to laugh. And not just chuckle either, but a full out, almost maniacal sounding laugh. "How nice of you to be worried now, since clearly you weren't worrying about me last night," he scoffed, pushing past him to step inside the house. He didn't plan on staying too long though, that was for sure. "It's funny, because I actually trusted you to go there and not do anything considering you have a boyfriend. Yeah, remember me? Your boyfriend? Or do you think that because we can't be seen being together in public that it'd be okay for you to grind on other people?" It was nearly impossible for Alex to stay calm, which was really saying something considering the only time that Alex ever really got worked up was when he was watching sports, and even then it wasn't like he was angry, at least not like this.

"I went to the party last night, you know. After I was done work, I thought you'd be happy if I showed up since I said I wasn't going to be able to go. Well, you were happy alright, happy to be grinding all over some aberration guy," Alex finally explained through gritted teeth, because it didn't look like Cody understood what was really going on here. "If you're not going to take this seriously, then there's no point in bothering. I thought you were smarter than this, more considerate and mature but I guess it was wrong. My fault for thinking that you actually liked me and cared about me enough not to do shit like this, right?"

Do I Wanna Know || Cody and Alex

Normally, Alex couldn't wait for the weekend. He'd have two days off from work that he'd usually spend most of with Cody, and that was how he had initially expected this weekend to go as well. But today, the last thing he wanted to do was see his boyfriend, as horrible as it sounded - but he thought he had a good reason not to. With the blacklight party being the night before, Alex had told Cody that he wouldn't be able to go because he had work and it wouldn't be safe for either of them for him to be there. But once he got off of work, Alex had decided that maybe he would go, only to spend twenty minutes searching for Cody before finding him participating in some dirty dancing with a kid that Alex recognized as an aberration. It took Alex no time at all to turn around and leave, stopping at the store to get a six pack of beer before heading home.

By the morning, there was only one beer left in the case, but thankfully Alex didn't have too much of a hangover. He had, however, been hoping that the alcohol would maybe erase the memory of what he had seen, or maybe he'd wake up and see that it was all just a dream, but it wasn't. He had woken up to missed calls and texts from Cody and didn't even bother reading them or listening to the messages - the normally stoic man was honestly quite hurt by what he had seen. After taking a shower and getting a bite to eat for breakfast, Alex caught a glimpse of a text that said Cody would be filing a missing persons report if he didn't hear from him soon. So, against his better judgement, Alex grabbed his keys and made his way out to the car before before making the short drive to Cody's to confront him, knocking loudly on the door once he got there.

I didn’t restrain her, I didn’t hurt her, okay. All I did was grab her arm, Alex. You know I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t necessary.

Where was I supposed to do it then? I don’t think she’d exactly let me into the house if I accused her of a crime. Oh, are we questioning my sanity? Why do I even have to defend myself? I’m not the one who made the genius plan of the decade.

You grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving, I'm pretty sure that counts as restraining her. How was it necessary? So you could go on a little power trip? There was no reason for you to keep her there in public.

If you had talked to me about it, I would have had her listen. But now she's not going to trust anything that you might want her to do. I know that my plan wasn't perfect, but it got us this far didn't it? You put the pieces together because you know us. Most people won't.

She said that you all but cornered her and wouldn't let her go, and physically restrained her from leaving.

If you have a problem with what's going on about it, don't harass her about it, and sure as hell don't do it in public. I would've thought you had more sense than that, Alec.
