Easy like sunday morning || Alec & Oliver
If Oliver was with anyone else, he would swear on Shakespeare’s grave that any and every ounce of amusement directed his way was strictly based off of courtesy, but as usual, his match gave him quite a bit of room to question his own thought processes. His deep, genuine laugh echoed throughout the neighborhood, and Oliver couldn’t even find it in him to feel sorry for anyone who might have been woken by it; if he had it his way, that’s how he’d like to start his days for the rest of his life. Alec had a manner about him that quelled every inner conflict he’d ever had, existential crises be damned, and every little habit— in this case, throwing his entire body into his laughs— sparked an impossible flame within the cockles of Oliver’s chest. People may be quick to assume that the flamboyant English professor had a knack for highly caffeinated beverages, but the truth was, he would sooner be revitalized by his loved one’s presence than drink copious amounts of coffee for sustenance. He didn’t know what was crazier, the implications of the statement or the fact that it was a veritable truth. “How far do you think I would’ve been propelled forward by a banana peel?” He questioned, keening at Alec’s touch. “You know, projectile motion says it’d be ideal if I were at a forty-degree angle, but judging by the way I was lunging,” He ventured, donning a pensive expression as he stuck his hands out in estimation. “I’d say I was parallel to the ground. Hypothesis: If Oliver lunges parallel to the ground, then he will hardly travel a few centimeters before his face meets the ground. We should test this out one of these days!”
Oliver scrunched his face up in disapproval. “Yes, you’re a seasoned veteran in the art of saving me from injuries, but that doesn’t mean you should all the time. One of these days you gotta let me take the fall for you! Literally or metaphorically, anyway. Even Prince Charming’s gotta have take a vacation every once in a while, you’re only human,” He listened to his counterpart speak, taking note of the change in inflection and squeezing his hand a little firmer. “It could be a team effort if you’d like. I could, um,” He brainstormed quickly, forming ideas at a breakneck speed. “I could help you come up with a list of whatever seeds you want and get them for you while you’re at work. It’ll save you some time and I’d probably try to get the project started until we can spare a few minutes a day to complete everything in increments, yeah?” He offered, his tone hopeful. “If a garden’s what you want, I’ll be more than happy to help make it happen. It doesn’t have to be all at once,” Oliver continued his stride, worrying at his lower lip. Alec never asked for much, if at all, and sometimes he wished he would. Oliver truly believed that he deserved each drop of happiness the world had to offer, and if that meant he had to go out of his way to make it happen, so be it. The man was determined in the most questionable of ways.
Alec shook his head, still laughing, when Oliver explained his theory about bananas. "Don't-stop joking… I can't stop laughing." Whether it was because of the recent stress, or the lack of sleep, but Alec suddenly felt like everything was a laughing matter. It felt so easy to just laugh at it, instead of arguing against, and a happy feeling spread inside. He was often in for a laugh, but not this much, this was surely a new record for the longest laugh of the year. After a while his laugh died out, he took a deep breath and grimaced with his face. His fascial muscles hurt after the long laugh, but he smiled anyway. "I haven't laughed this much since… I don't know, but it was years ago, and probably with you."
"I know, Oliver, I know… When you stand there and see the person you love fall it comes like an instinct to run and save them. It's nothing I can take a vacation from" Alec stated. "We're both here for each other, I'll save you and you'll save me. You just happen to trip more often than I do," he added with a chuckle. He pictured them tending a garden, a joyful picture was, and a happy smile replaced the bitter one. It was true, Alec had often wanted a garden like the one from his childhood. Various plants had grown on the White's ground, trees that gave fruit, colorful flowers, even some berries. The garden had withered and the thorns grown wild after the tragedy, almost like it mirrored their sorrow. If he had the chance, he'd told himself, he would make it up for that garden they'd left without love. "Would you like to do that?" he asked Oliver, looking into his eyes. Was Oliver giving him that chance? Were they really going to grow a garden together? "I mean, that sounds amazing, but would you really like to spend your time on that?"
-smoking outside the high school, staring into the abyss like a broody teenager-
Hey, what's going on? You're not allowed to smoke here and you should know it.
I’ll try not to let him get me in trouble. Actually, I’m usually spending most of my time making sure that he stays out of trouble honestly … Pssh, what can you possibly learn in thirty years? That was a joke by the way, if you couldn’t detect my sarcasm. Don’t worry though, I promise to not take off in search of RDJ. My dad would kill me anyway.
You sound a lot like me right now. Keeping my match out of trouble has become my second job. Good, I was about to give you a lecture on how much you can do in thirty years. Let's not bring up fathers, shall we. Tell me, have you gotten your vocation yet?
I don't ever want to spend that much time with extended family again.
Pregnancy, weddings, kids names….no, I’m sure I ever wanna hear the word bride again
I get chills just by hearing all that. Let's forget that it ever happened. How are you, Charlie?
I don't ever want to spend that much time with extended family again.
How did you know that’s why? Haha
I've been through that too, you know. All those questions, it's almost intimidating.
Watch our for these white-boy dance skills.
You're good, kid!
Not if that crowd includes my match. I don’t have much of a choice with that, do I? I can’t help it if he’s being a bad influence on me. I guess so. That must have that listed somewhere on the application for superheroes. Is he? Huh. What is it that everyone says? Age is just a number?
I'm joking, don't worry. As long as that crowd, and your match, doesn't get you in trouble it's fine. Yes, probably. People keep telling me that like I don't know. I'm just saying he's got thirty more years of life experience.
I don't ever want to spend that much time with extended family again.
Why not? Did you waste a whole day talking about your future?
Who needs the gym when you can carry dogs around town?
Woke up with the dire need to redecorate and organise my whole room. I just made the discovery that this requires heavy lifting with arm strength I do not have…who wants to do it for me?
I will bake cookie prizes. As soon as I recover.
I'm Alec White and here to help. What is it you need assistance with?
No problem. What?! I totally don’t have a dirty mind … Okay, maybe I do, but it’s not my fault. I just hang around with the wrong crowd. They’re all way more gorgeous than should be allowed. RDJ has my heart though. He’s amazing.
It's your choice to hang around that crowd, so it sort of is your fault. Exactly! Guess that comes with playing superheroes. Isn't he fifty something though?
Yeah, dad took it… Really hard. As anyone who lost the love of their life would I guess. Me? Oh, I’m fine. Just fine. It’s coming up on two years now so… I’m good. It was a long time ago.
I'm glad that you're fine, if that's what you really are. Loss leaves most people in a mess. Did he take his misery it out on you?
Yeah, that’s pretty clever. I’ll try that for sure. Pretty nice guy right? That’s what everyone tells me at least, what a pleasure it was to work with and things like that. Uh… Yeah. Of course.
I'm glad I could offer some help. Um, I don't know. We didn't work together. What I do know is that a family member's passing is hard to handle. I've been through that, I know how it feels. Tell me, how are you holding up?
Taco soup? I haven’t tried that one yet, but I’ll have to now. Oh, yeah.. I mean, we live with my dad. I’m sure you know him, Marcus Salazar, he’s an Official. He’s been given some time off after my mom died though so… He’s home a lot.
Yeah, I mean, how can he tell it's not taco if he's never tasted it? Yes, I know who he is. Does he help you with Kenny?
