“I’ve never even payed for my own bill, so yeah a date.” She grabbed her phone. “Your number for mine?”
Alexander shook his head as he sighed softly, though almost amused he quipped. “I wouldn’t be admitting to that if I were you.” He smiled, which quickly turned into a smirk. “I’m sorry to break it to you but I don’t date, so I’m not going to take lead you on and take you on one. That wouldn’t be fair. And quite frankly it’d be a waste of both our times.”
donuts & coffee → alex & tessa
The brunette shook her head, a small smile dancing on her lips. “I was not born with that trait, at all. I mean.. I’m on time like… 74% of the time? — Those are pretty decent odds, my friend.” Tessa wasn’t sure why he had walked all the way over there, but then again, she knew she would have done the same; she was just that kind of person. If she said she was going to do something, she did it.
“The British thing because I think you said to call around or something, so I called instead of just showing up.” Now that Tessa was explaining it, it sounded a bit lame and instantly she could feel her cheeks heating up. “You know what? Not important… um, yeah. You’re welcome,” she murmured, doing her best to change the subject. Her face fell, eyebrows raising. “Please tell me you’re joking,” Tessa shook her head, laughing quietly.
“Hey, seventy six percent of the time is better than never.” He responded, another soft smirk gracing his features as he lightly shrugged a shoulder. Alex smiled softly as she explained what she meant by ‘the British thing’ before chuckling to himself. “Oh, right. Too British for my own good sometimes, yeah I meant like, swing by.” He paused. “- Don’t sweat it. No harm done.” Dampening his lower lip, Alex watched her for a moment, his face completely serious before he laughed to himself. “Oh, you guys are so easy to wind up, don’t worry Tessa, I’ll even get them to write the right name on your coffee cup, don’t worry.”
“Okay nope. No, no. I swing the other way”, he laughed, “I’m not a newbie in this, I learned to hold my girl screams a couple of years ago”, he laughed, “It’s that way, near the old highway”, he said pointing to the east.
“I’m kidding.” The male answered seriously as he cocked a brow at Gareth. “That is definitely good to know, but alright, I suppose so.” He shrugged a shoulder, Alex wasn’t easily scared and although haunted houses didn’t really seem like his scene he was willing to humour Gareth.
“I swear I’m not ominous.” She giggled. “No, but maybe you could take me out to dinner? Do sexy doctors do that?” She bit her lip softly.
Alexander cocked his brow at her, smirking softly. “What? Like a date?” He questioned before chuckling under his breath. “Because I assume that’s what you mean if you want me to pick up the bill.” He paused, watching her silently for a moment, waiting for confirmation of what she meant.
Unlucky ft. Phoebe and Alex
Phoebe’s eyes had stayed on Alex while she took in what exactly he was telling her to do. Her jaw dropped slightly, but definitely not to the point where it was noticeable. She would surprise herself if she actually remembered what she was supposed to do. Over time, she had become forgetful. “If I can remember all of that. I’m sure it’ll go soothingly, though.” She said with a slight lick of her lips. She didn’t even want to think of bleeding, or anything remotely close to the subject of blood.
“I always thought you weren’t allowed, huh, well thanks for informing me a bit more about it.” It seemed like Phoebe had been thanking him a lot for things during her hospital visit, but what else was she suppose to say? She didn’t want to engage in normal conversation with him because she knew he wasn’t interested and the option of making slight jokes was out of the question, well as far as she was concerned. “What if it’s bugging me? Usually, I’m the type that never leaves irritable things on my skin alone.” Her throwing facts at him about herself made it feel like they didn’t even know each other like somehow her whole visit was the first time they met - though it had been a number of years and they both knew they didn’t know anything about each other anymore. “If I come back, then we’ll know why.”
“Just use common sense, really.” The male added with a shrug of his shoulders. He figured she’d be able to tell if something wasn’t right, and besides, her father was there. Alexander was sure he’d be able to look after her even if she had the inability to look after herself. “I’m sure you’ll be fine, as I said, you don’t look like you’ve done any lasting damage, just a sore head.”
“Misconception of many, but truthfully, you shouldn’t sleep until you’ve been checked out, but I’m telling you you’re alright to sleep. And trust me, if I didn’t think you were I wouldn’t be putting my job on the line saying you could.” His voice was softer than it’d been the other day, but that was more because he had the work wall built up in front of him, he didn’t have have smalltalk, he was just doing his job. Even so, he watched her for a moment as she spoke again. He nodded, sighing softly. “Then I’m afraid you’re just going to have to try.” He answered, shrugging a shoulder. “I don’t have a miracle to stop you from playing with it. All I can do is suggest, and if you do decide to mess with it you’ll end up in a bloody mess, and I’m sure you don’t want that. So if that isn’t enough to convince you not to then theres nothing else I can suggest.” He gave her a firm nod of the head. “Of course, just get some rest, you’ll be fine in no time.”
“Duly noted..” She pulled her bra strap and her shirt up. “Well, what will I have to do to get to see you again, Doc?”
The male raised his hand to scratch lightly at his jaw, his shoulder shrugging lightly. “You make that sound so ominous. Anything you want, love. What did you have in mind? Because breaking your leg would be somewhat dramatic.”
She smirked and bit her lip. “Yeah. I was being throwing in the air and I fell wrong.. And even my bra strap irritates it.” She pulled her bra strap down slowly. “I haven’t been able to wear a bra for a bit because of it..”
Alex was definitely doubting her integrity by this point so he just smirked softly, his head shaking at her amusedly. “You should probably go see your GP about that then. Could be anything but seeing as you can still move your arm I’m not unduly worried.”
“Uhm… ‘please’ and ‘I’ll buy you food afterwards?’ ”
“And now you sound like you’re asking me on a date.” Alex chuckled, shaking his head. “Aight’ but no holding my hand when you get scared, you hear me? And no throwing random punches in my direction.”
“True, true. Well I mean don’t sell yourself short; you are very attractive.” She giggled looking down. “Don’t worry you didn’t. But tell me Doc,” She said as she pulled her shirt down over her shoulder, “I fell and my shoulder has just been out of wack. The bruise is gone, but it still bothers me a bit.”
Alexander chuckled softly, he knew full well that he was attractive, he just didn’t let the idea go to his head. “Well thank you, I appreciate it, really,” and he did. He cocked his brow at her next comment, before smirking softly. “Really? And how did you fall may I ask? Was it another one of these cheerleading accidents?”
“But it’ll be fun! You won’t regret it!”
“You’re missing vital parts that would convince me to go into a haunted house with you.”
“Hey, we cheerleaders know what we’re getting into by being flyers.” She shook his hand. “Aw, you’re funny Alexander.” She giggled. “A Doctor? I guess I can see that. Probably one of those brooding types that all his patients want?”
“Just because you know it can happen doesn’t mean you want it to.” He answered, shaking her hand before returning it to his coffee cup. “Funny?” He asked, dampening his lower lip before chuckling at her next words. “No, I’m the really attractive one.” He joked. “Well I like to tell myself that, but no, I think I’m just good at my job. No brooding, sorry to disappoint, love.”
“Let’s go to the haunted house! Oh, please, please, please, please?!”
“If it’s not to her face, or my squad, I don’t thinks it counts.” She smirked. “Hm, well Sir, my name is Nicole. Nicole Bentley.”
“I dunno, I’ve seen enough broken ankles to know how nasty they can be.” He half smiled, releasing one hand from being wrapped around his coffee cup to offer it to her. “Well it’s nice to meet you Nicole, Alexander.” He smirked softly, tilting his head to the side before saying almost mockingly, but not meanly. “Ford. Alexander Ford. Doctor, if we’re going by title.”
Unlucky ft. Phoebe and Alex
Her eyes absorbed everything that was around her, she observed Alex as he had continued to do his job and she had realized that he made the right choice in going to school to pursue a career in medicine - she really thought from the beginning that his career path would suit him well and if she ever got the chance to have a full on normal conversation with him, she’d tell him how proud she is of him. “Nope, I’m not allergic to anything that I know of.” Phoebe’s grip tightened around the chair a bit, due to the slight pain she was feeling. She had never dealt well with anything that involved pain but she always shrugged it off, or tried to at least, whenever she was around people. “That sounds great.” She followed Alexanders directions and looked where he told her to each time. “I’ll have either my dad or Serena with me. Are you allowed to sleep after something like this happens? I’ve heard that people shouldn’t, but then again, maybe that’s why you suggested I have someone with me in case.” At that point, she had been rambling, not because she wanted to slow down time and hear his voice, but because she had legitimate questions for him and concerns for herself.
He nodded lightly as she said she wasn’t allergic to anything, and jotted something else on her notes in front of him before clicking his pen off and placing it back in his pocket. “Alright, I’ll get you a prescription, these tablets need taking with food, up to four times a day, with six hours apart, and don’t take anything else with them, and if you do need extra pain killers don’t take anything anti-inflammatory, they can cause bleeding.”
Once done examining her, he nodded his head. “Regardless of what people say, sleep is good, it helps the brain recover if you have a concussion just make sure you wait until later on tonight, no afternoon naps. Besides, I don’t think you’re concussed, but as I say just as a precaution make sure someone is with you.” He repeated his first instructions. “You’re probably going to bruise, and avoid picking at it, you’ll just make it bleed, and try to sleep on the other side of your head, keep the pressure off. If it does start bleeding again, put a non-adhesive plaster on.” He exhaled softy before taking a short breath to continue. “If you feel dizzy, vomit, start seeing double, gain speech problems, loss of balance, anything that doesn’t seem right come back and see us.”
“I wouldn’t say glad, well at least not out loud.” She said smiling, letting a small laugh slip. “And I’m not cruel, me not knowing your name is cruel.”
“I think you just did.” He responded with a soft chuckle before lightly shaking his head. “Well that is a shame, isn’t it? Ladies first though.”
“Cheer practice got cut short today. Our main flyer fell and broke her ankle. Guess who’s taking her spot!?”
Smirking softly, Alex shook his head at the woman as he mused over what she’d said. “So what you’re saying is you’re glad they broke their ankle?” He questioned, half teasing before taking a sip of the coffee he had in his hand. “Now thats just cruel.”
Unlucky ft. Phoebe and Alex
The more time she spent in the room with him, the more she felt like she couldn’t take it much longer. She knew how any professional never liked to mix work with their outside life, so she stuck strictly to medical related topics. “Alright, thank you Dr.Ford.” She gestured the best smile she could manage to make towards him and stayed sitting there, the back of her shoe constantly tapping on the metal part of the platform she had been sitting on. “I actually have a soaring headache.” She had been so distracted by the rush of getting to the hospital and also seeing Alex that she hadn’t felt as much pain as she thought she would have. it was all starting to get to her in that moment, just sitting there made her adrenaline rush come to a stubborn halt. “Not necessarily sick, no. That makes him the wise one out of the two of us.” For her entire life, Phoebe had always been a daddy’s girl and in her mind, she always would be. Her dad was more concerned about her well being than his own and that was only half of the reason why she felt like a lucky one to have him since practically everything else in her life had to keep going wrong.
He went about patching up the cut on her head, scissors carefully cutting the strips the right length before he stuck them gently against the cut, his hand lingering as he pressed the strips down. Alex was gentle, like she was a peach that he didn’t bruise. He took a step back once he was done and walked over to the bin, opening it up with his foot to place the gloves in it. Walking back towards her he picked up her notes again, humming lightly under his breath. “Are you allergic to anything?” He asked, even though he was pretty sure he knew the answer, a lot could change in the best part of ten years. “I’ll get you something for the headache.” He settled on, placing the notes down again before walking towards her once more, his hand reaching to touch her jaw as he looked in her eyes. “Look up-” he spoke. Although his gaze was deep into her eyes, he wasn’t looking at her, not the way he used to. It was purely professional, seeing past who she was but more, what she needed. “Look down-” he spoke, turning her head lightly with his hand. “To the left- .... - and the right.” He paused, pulling a torch out of his shirt pocket, clicking it on and holding it up. “And one more time.” He started, shining the light in her eyes to check her pupils were dilating properly and constricting to the light.
Once done he took a step back and picked her notes up again, scribbling something on them. “I’m pretty confident that you’re going to be just fine, just take it easy and be careful for the next twenty four to forty eight hours, and make sure theres someone with you incase you pass out. And drink plenty of fluids.”
