“Hm? Oh, I think it was a game of poker? I was in a local pub, and I had beaten everyone in there until he came in and challenged me. I started to exploit his faults, he got very angry– he smashed his drink on the ground, actually. We were in a massive bet as well. He placed in about seven thousand pounds? Anyway, he got upset and started yelling about his cartel, and, well, apparently one of your agents was there, and this was all the evidence they apparently needed. Nobody could get anything on him that connected him to some crime, but I managed to. Next thing I knew, I ended up being recruited here.”

Silently Alex listened, clearly impressed by what the younger woman was saying. “Typical male ego, sounds like,” she said. “Couldn’t stand to be beaten by a woman.” She shook her head smiling as they reached the training area. “Here we are. That’s Beta over there. Let him know Alex asked him to look after you in Alpha’s absence. I’m sure he won’t mind.”

“I do. I’m adorable.” Jude grinned. “Alright, cheap beer it is. Not too cheap though, Stella Artois is shit and so is Carling.”

Alexandra snorted, though a smile played across her face. “Adorable as my ass,” she grumbled teasingly. “You’re definitely getting Stella Artois now.”

Ven laughed and raised her hands in defense, “Hey, he was the one who challenged me to a game. He didn’t have to make himself lose like and act like a whiny little brat.” Dropping her hands to her sides, “I’m excited to meet everyone. Everyone here is certainly interesting. Do you have any tips with getting to know everyone in here? Or, should I figure it out for myself?”

“What kind of game?” Alex asked, genuinely interested. She knew there had to be an interesting story there. “I think the best advice I can give when it comes to the others is be yourself. Cliché, I know, but it’s definitely what I suggest.” The agent smiled. “If they don’t warm up immediately, they’ll warm up eventually.”

“Well, with you, it’s hard to know,” he replied immediately with a slight smile.  “Dare I ask what it actually is?”

“Not even I’m that strange.” She extended the bag once more. “It’s good, I promise. Chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar.”

"Ah, thatta boy!” Alexandra beamed, taking a bit more for herself as well. “Where have you been, Leo?”

“Fine. In that case I’ll have a Pornstar Martini.” He grinned, knowing that he didn’t care for the taste and that they were an expensive drink.

“You think you’re real cute, don’t you?” Alexandra couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’m thinking something along the lines of cheap beer. That seems more your speed.”

Q was reading a file as he walking down the hall, but glanced up when he heard Alexandra’s voice.  “I assume you don’t mean literal dog food.”

“Yes, literal dog food,” she snorted, grabbing another handful and tossing it into her mouth. “You’re smarter than that, c’mon on.”

“Why? Well… I mean, it sounded so exciting first of all, and I kind of have always had a knack for figuring out people before they tell me about themselves. It’s all in their body language. I just kind of picked up on it, and MI6 thought that it’d be helpful.” She shrugged, thinking over her next words, “That, and the fact that I pissed off a drug lord probably was why I came. It was fun.”

“Pissed off a drug lord?” Alexandra asked, amusement coloring her tone. She couldn’t help but laugh a little as well. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t laugh. That must actually be slightly terrifying,” she said, sobering up. “Still, I am excited to see what you’ll be bringing to the team. Having the ability to read people is incredibly useful.”

“It’s fine, I don’t exactly expect MI6 to not be busy.” She gave a small smile to the woman, nodding as sh was told to go find Beta. She knew her trainer was Alpha, but finding Beta would probably be a better idea if she wanted to really get trained. “Ah, thank you…”

Continuing through the building, Alex waved off the girl’s thanks. “It’s no problem. I was in your place once, I know how it can be.” They still had a ways to go and being as terrible as she was at silence, the blonde asked, “So, you’re obviously new. Mind me asking what made you take up the job?”

Coming out of a meeting with Q8, Alexandra pulled open a plastic bag of food. Plucking up a few pieces, she smiled at the first person she came across and stuffed what was in her hand into her mouth.

“I made puppy chow last night. Want some?”

“Yes, and everyone has told me that they’re off on a mission, so I’m not sure what exactly I’ll be doing. I went through basic training, but I’m not sure what else they want me to go through.” She gave a slightly irritates sigh, “And the fact that I’m currently the only trainee isn’t exactly helping.”

The young woman’s annoyance was noted, and Alexandra supposed she couldn’t be blamed for that. Coming into a M16 without someone to guide you could not only be difficult, but it could be intimidating as well. “Things have been a little busy as of late,” she apologized. “But my suggestion would be to find Beta. He trains people as well, and I’m sure he’d be willing to give you a few pointers until your own Trainer comes back.”

“Aw would you?” He batted his eyelashes at her and grinned. “You’re so nice.”

“I would,” she confirmed with a grin. “I know, I know. I’m too nice for my own good sometimes.”

Search and Retrieve || Alexandra & Robbie

Robbie took the file, flicking through it to try and piece the puzzle back together. Out of the two of them, Simon had always been the smart one. Even when they’d been out in Iraq, it had always been Robbie who wanted to rush into stuff without thinking and Simon who had been making game plans and drawing stuff on maps. Robbie wasn’t gonna argue that Simon had been wrong, but they were just… different. Always had been. He knew he needed to be the kind of guy Simon had tried to teach him to be if he was going to succeed in MI6. Rushing into situations without a game plan barely worked in the army. It wasn’t going to do any good when they were trying to rescue children from a kidnapping ring. Life at MI6 was more complicated than things had been in the army and most of the time, Robbie’s head raced with thoughts that he struggled to keep track of.

He was honest about his faults. He was never gonna be a leader and that was fine. But he could be a damn good soldier, and he wasn’t gonna let doubts set in. He could adapt. He’d done it before. “Same information, huh?” He looked up at her then back to his papers. “I’ll try not to bugger up my first chance at being on equal footing with a Double-O.” Alex had seemed so confident when they’d been throwing jokes back and forward in the rec room. Robbie couldn’t help but wonder what she was feeling now. Like any Double-O, she could do a good job at hiding it.

He wanted to be sick when she told him about these people. He breathed a sigh, resting his elbows on his knees and raking his hands through dirty blonde hair. Was he ready for this? The simple answer was; he had to be. “Number one thing is that we’ve gotta make sure those kids get home safe to their mum and dad, yeah? Nobody’s compromising on that. Which I suppose means… tactical and subtle and a lot of stuff that’s new to me.” Why had they chosen him for this? Why couldn’t it have been Bond? “But I’m gonna do everything I can, and I’m not gonna let them down. So let’s… let’s get a plan, alright?”

The agent eyed him for a moment. Missions like these were hard on people. And for good reason. Black market dealings weren’t something to be taken lightly. The people associated with them were dark, evil people. And they knew they were, and they simply didn’t care. To them, it was about money. Morals be dammed. Even though Alexandra had been on many missions that dealt with those involved in the black market and human trafficking, it never got any easier. It was still something she had to work through and keep her emotions out of. Because it was so easy to let the anger and sadness consume oneself. 

“Subtlety is going to be our best move,” she agreed, taking a seat once more and placing the file in her lap. “The mission is about getting the kids out, not taking out the targets.” Though she was sure both of them would have loved to put more than a few bullets into the people behind this kidnapping. Picking up the file again, the blonde crossed her legs and sighed. “Game plan is this: a car is going to be waiting for us when we land and we’ll be taken to the hotel under the guise of a wealthy couple,” she began. “Tonight they’re having a small benefit, but it’ll serve as a distraction so that we might slip around unnoticed.”

Growing silent, Alexandra thought for a moment. “Once we figure out what level they’re being held on, we’ll have to figure out a way to get there. We might end up having to go through the vents,” she chuckled, though it only lasted a moment. “It’s very likely they’re going to have guards stationed at the door, so they’ll have to be disposed off. It’s getting the kids out that we’re really going to have to work on. Getting them out the same way we got in is probably not going to happen. At least, I’ve never managed it.” She looked to him, waiting to see his take on things.

Ven quickly accepted the hand offered, shaking it briefly. “Would you?” She breathed out a slight sigh of relief at that, she really was tired of wandering into places she didn’t know. “And, it’s nice to meet you too, Alexandra.” It was funny how many people asked to be called by their first names rather than their code names, though, she had a feeling it was due to the fact that they weren’t on a mission.

“Of course,” Alex confirmed, nodding towards another hallway. “You’re probably looking for someone like Delta or even Alpha. I believe they’re the ones that take in the new trainees,” she explained, leading the younger woman. “Has anyone told you about them yet?”
