“All right, sure, you’re fine,” Finn huffed. For a second he believed it too, but that quickly faded away. He gently took her by the arm, leading her out of the way of traffic, and just the simplest touch had his vision flashing white for less than a second as a dozen jarring images popped into his mind. Images that featured the brunette before him…laughing with her, fighting with her (both against and beside her), drinking and cuddling with her. He grit his teeth after a gasp, narrowing his eyes as he tried to push the impending headache away with pure thought to no avail. “I’m not messing with your head, I swear,” he said, rubbing at his temple. “I don’t know you either, but…this is weird, but I feel like I do?”
Alexandra saw the man grit his teeth and she stood up straighter. “You saw it too,” she said. “Someone’s messing with both of us.” It had to be. She’d grown up in CARMA, and this man was a civilian. The only way she could’ve known him was if she’d been in kindergarten with him before she was homeschooled. But the images were of them as adults. “What did you see?”

“You have a phone, Alex,” Theo said, not caring for her correction. ‘Alexandra’ was a cumbersome name and the four syllables were generally just exhausting. “Yeah, I’m sure. And yes, there’s a lot to do even though the work day is technically over. Your lingering around isn’t really helping me any.”
Alexandra narrowed her eyes at Theo. “Don’t call me that,” she said, since correcting him hadn’t worked. She kept her power out of it, not wanting to command Theo not to call her ‘Alex’. She rolled her eyes at the dismissive tone of the scientist. “You really ought to not be so rude. Someone might actually offer to help you then.” She pushed off the bench, crossing her arms as she left. “Asshole,” she muttered under her breath.
metafinnwinchester:
“Okay, well, you clearly don’t seem fine,” Finn insisted, his brows knitted together in confusion. What the hell was going on here? Was she okay? One of his brows rose up now as she accused him of doing something, he had no idea what. “I’m not doing anything except trying to help you. Look, just…” He reached out cautiously towards her to try and help her out of the way of pedestrian traffic. “I’m not gonna hurt you, let’s get you somewhere you can sit and get some water or something, okay?”
“I am.” Alexandra didn’t mean to use her power to convince the man, it just slipped out in her frustration. Something that only made her feel worse, considering how well trained she was meant to be. Nonetheless, she begrudgingly let him steer her from the foot traffic and to a nearby wall she could lean on. “You, or someone, is messing with my head,” she said, ignoring his suggestions. “I don’t know you.”
fire-byrd:
Kelli thought she was going to get by without a scene but when the woman started barking commands she froze up, unable to take another step away. What did she do to her? Hearing the woman say her name caused Kelli to tense. Shit she had been recognized again, she really had to dye her hair to something far less recognizable. “Sorry I think you have me confused with someone else,” she lied, and tried to continue on her way but her feet remain planted on the sidewalk. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not doing anything besides trying to go home while that guy you were after is probably three blocks away by now.”
Alexandra didn’t understand. The woman-- Kelli-- had been forced to stop walking by her powers, but when Alexandra had commanded her to stop messing with her mind, it didn’t stop. “How are you doing this? Is it someone around here?” she snapped. Vulnerability didn’t sit well with Alexandra, and she felt completely exposed here. “Who are you?”
fire-byrd:
“Shit watch where you’re going!” Kelli gasped when someone nearly knocked her over in their quick get away. When she saw the CARMA agent she tensed and quickly ducked her head down to avoid eye contact. The last thing she needed was another run in with CARMA, especially since she figured her pepper spray trick wouldn’t work twice. “Excuse me,” she muttered quietly as she brushed past the woman.
As the woman brushed past, Alexandra felt like she was being hit by a psychic attack. Images she’d never seen before of this woman and herself, friendly, sharing a drink, caring for one another... “Stop!” she said, not entirely sure if she was speaking to the woman or her own mind. She spun around to face the woman. “Kelli.” How did she know that? Alexandra hated this feeling of complete uncertainty. “Stop this,” she insisted, sure the woman had to be doing it.
metafinnwinchester:
Finn’s head shot up from his phone when he heard yelling. When he looked up, he saw a C.A.R.M.A agent––one he had ran into about a week ago, he believed––staring at him. “Hey, are you all right?” he asked, furrowing his brows as he moved closer to her. “Do you need to sit down for a second?”
Alexandra, hating herself for getting distracted and feeling so weak, flinched away from the blonde man when he stepped closer. “I’m fine,” she lied. She pushed the flyaway hairs back towards her braid and stared at the man. Her mind seemed to battle for control, giving her images of the man laughing with her, in a CARMA uniform, helping her, stabbing her... “Who the fuck are you?” she growled. “Stop it.” She knew he was a meta, was he helping the other guy get away?
"Oi! Stop right... " Alexandra trailed off, stopped dead in her tracks while the criminal ran. A stranger had distracted her, not by what they were doing but she'd gotten a distinct feeling that she knew them. A feeling of discomfort sat in her stomach before she was treated to a flash of... memory that made her clutch her head.
haydenthehuman:
“It’s fine,” Hayden waved away her sister’s explanation with a smile. “I am well aware that you can handle anything. I am still your big sister and it is still in my job description to take care of you. Which includes reminding you that even super agents need to eat.” Hayden took everything seriously so it was no surprise how she took becoming an older sibling. While she believed that Alexandra was the best agent CARMA had, she didn’t like that her baby sister had to be in this position at all. It just wasn’t right or fair. A discussion she had with her family multiple times and repeatedly lost. “Come on,” she clasped Alexandra’s hand, “I already called ahead and ordered your favorite. You need to take a break.”
Alexandra smiled. Hayden was her big sister and she did love her a lot. Even when they bickered over everything from CARMA to food. “Thanks, Hay.” She did need a break, Alexandra was due lunch. “Really? You remembered what it is this time?” she teased. “Shouldn’t you be at work too?”
nataliaofmana:
“Oh come on you’re going to tell me that you don’t ever get tired of doing things by the books. There’s nothing wrong with deterring from the rulebook as long as you can control the situation,” Natalia said. Not hiding the exasperation in her voice she was bored and needed action now. On cue she looked over Alexandra’s shoulder and noticed some trouble going on.
Outside a local bar about three or four douchebags was giving. This one woman a really hard time as she was trying to leave. “Like right over there you’re going to tell me. Those idiots don’t deserve a good beat down” Natalia asked nudging her head. In the men’s direction “come on Alex it can be off the books justice. I promise it’ll be rewarding and fun” she coaxed with a smirk.
“No. I don’t. I was trained to do it right.” She rolled her eyes as Natalia’s exasperation. Alexandra really didn’t understand the need to do things by fighting. It only drew negative attention to them and gave CARMA a worse name. It gave groups like the Rebels ground to argue on, as if they were right and legitimate.
“Fine.” She saw the men harassing the woman, and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t agree with Natalia. “Just once. Then you stop asking if we can do it, alright? One time.”
meta-merchant-moxxi:
She considered it for a while before speaking. “I’d like to be there. I can take a break from the paperwork.” She made sure to mark where she was in the sea of forms for when she got back to it before standing up. Of course she trusted Alexandra to get the job done but she liked hearing first hand what the drug dealer had to say. “I assume now is a fine time for you to do this?”
“Of course. As you like.” Alexandra had no qualms with being supervised by Madeline. She’d be recorded anyway, it wasn’t like Alexandra expected to get away with anything. “As good a time as any. I’ll follow you.”
compellingsong:
Adrian stared at the girl for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of offering more information about him to a freaking CARMA agent; he smiled at her with more intent this time, focusing in making his beauty sharpen to a higher level and leaning a bit closer to her, licking his lips provocatively “It goes far further than that, especially when I want to. I just don´t try to do it that often.” he amended quickly, back to his boyish behavior “And you? Is it only your voice?”
Alexandra’s eyes widened as the young man’s appearance seemed to shift almost imperceptibly. She couldn’t tell you what was different if you asked, but... there was something. If she wasn’t on alert for him trying to use his powers, she might’ve found it intriguing when he leaned in closer, but as it was, she took a small step back. “...How far?” she asked, shaking her head to clear it. “You say only like it’s nothing big. But yes. I can bend people to my will with my voice.”
helios-of-plasma:
“Really don’t, no.” he said without missing a beat. “Speaking of professionalism, you’re missing that ‘allowing one to succeed or fail of their own accord’ bit.” he said simply. “I’m sorry, did you just threaten me?”
“Yeah, that’s great. But not while you’re my partner today and your success or failure is directly tied to mine.” Alexandra had a strict rule about failing: don’t. It was a cornerstone of her identity. Who was she without it? “I wouldn’t call it a threat. More like... a warning.”
haydenthehuman:
“Of course not. They were just leaving,” Hayden answered for the person her sister was talking to as she walked past. She briefly glanced over her shoulder and the look she gave them must have been terrifying enough they turned and continued walking down the sidewalk. It really wasn’t that person she cared about, but someday her sister’s actions would come back to haunt her. Hayden wanted to save her from what little she could. “Good Afternoon Andy. I thought we were meant to meet for lunch twenty minutes ago. Did you forget?”
Alexandra rolled her eyes as Hayden stalked past the stranger. Trust her sister to find her, she thought to herself, dropping her folded arms with a sigh. The stranger walked away and Alexandra’s attention turned fully to Hayden. “I could handle that,” she said. “And, no I didn’t forget, Hayden. I was running late because I was busy. I’m sorry.”
nataliaofmana:
“No but it sure as hell more fun than having just surrender” Natalia sighed. The Madhouse sounded like a good idea, but she only ever participated if she needed the extra cash. Other than that she strayed away from the place. Another side of her was brought out whenever she fought there. A more sadistic one that Natalia couldn’t really control, and that kind of scared of her. “I’ll pass on that idea how about we patrol a bit more. Just to be sure everything is okay, and if there’s trouble I’ll take the next one.

“It’s not about fun. This is work. It’s about doing the best job possible. The least damage for the most good.” Alexandra was quite adamant about that. She had been raised to believe in a strict work ethic. It was hard to deviate from that, just because someone thought it was boring. “I don’t think there’ll be trouble. Not if I can talk to people.”

“They went home for the day, Alex,” Theo said as he closed his folder to hide it from her gaze. “I feel like you should’ve known that. And no, it’s just my shit to deal with. It’s not that bad anyway, I like double checking everyone.” He ran a hand through his hair, “it’s better to know the work is 100% perfect rather than 95%, or even less.”
“Alexandra,” she corrected reflexively. “Mm, probably, but I just got back from patrols. I wanted to check before I went home. Mum especially has a habit of staying late sometimes.” She shrugged. "If you're sure. Oh definitely. How's it today? Got a lot to do?"
compellingsong:
Even his wariness of CARMA could not hope to compete with the sheer curiosity he felt for this woman who had an ability to pair with his Song; Adrian offered her a disarming smile even if he remained on guard, with their voices twinning like that it was possible she could resist his Enchant “Perfect! So, we can agree not to use that voice in one another and talk about it, if you want. I don’t know about you but this is the first time I meet someone like me and I’m awfully curious.” even if he had tried, he couldn’t keep the giddiness out of his voice, and he reasoned it was better not to try to hide it from someone that could possibly rip the truth out of him “My name is Adrian, by the way. Nice to meet you.” he greeted carefully light and polite, kill them with kindness he had read once and, according to experience, most people didn’t see the Shark hiding within him until after he had mauled them when he acted like this; even if he was planning to play it nice, one couldn’t be too careful while dealing with CARMA peeps.
Alexandra returned the smile, still a little on edge, but admittedly more curious than she liked. She’d never met someone with a voice like hers and part of her wanted to drag the young man home so her parents could study the similarities and difference. “Alexandra. Pleasure. So, is it just the voice that you can do?” she asked. After all, some people had multiple powers. The scientist in Alexandra itched to ask more, but she didn’t want to give too much away or spook the meta.
