been thinking about an au in which strand does not reply to 11 voicemails and ends up being haunted by the meddlesome ghost of a very incessant journalist who needs help discovering how she died, which happens to greatly intertwine with mysteries in his own life.

I’m so glad!!!! aaaaa I love it!!!!! I love it so much!!! he tries so hard, he just wants alex to be happy. like he has a kind of weird charm abt him, but that doesn’t always come across well when you’re trying to play matchmaker.

also imagine they’re at a cafe talking abt the podcast, and strand notices that alex keeps spacing out. he looks and sees that she keeps glancing at someone at another table. he gives her a smug look and starts to get up, and as he gets closer to the other table and begins talking to the cute person she’s like “dr strand? richard?? richard what the fuck are you doing?!!?” he comes back looking all proud of himself and hands her a little piece of paper with a number.

for once it’s a successful endeavor.

strand, holding papers of a supposed eyewitness account of a supernatural experience. he finds it baseless. empty. he tosses the stack of papers, and they fall all over the office. with no emotion on his face, he utters in a low, monotone voice:

You aren't wrong for being uncomfortable with the romance angle. I didn't like it. And pretty much all the people i know who ship them were unhappy with how it was suddenly shoehorned in to (what we thought) was the last ep and how it didn't feel true to the characters. I hope you are still able to get some enjoyment out of it!

thank you so much for your reassurance. it's good to know that people collectively felt disappointed by it for various reasons (obviously not bc we were disappointed, but the community aspect of feeling a similar way). thanks, I hope I can still find enjoyment in it too, and I hope you do as well!!

oh my god yes this is exactly the content I need. the first time she tries he goes on a tirade abt how people's attention spans are so short and other Old Man shit and alex sits there, suffering quietly bc sometimes you just have to let him wear himself out.but then she shows him the "if you're here, speak to us" "jUST A CITY BOY BORN AND RAISED IN SO-" vine and she gets a chuckle-huff out of him and she feels so accomplished!!! she has done it!!!!! she made him do the laugh!!!!!!

honestly? i agree with you 100%. i always read alex as viewing strand as more of a paternal friendship figure (? if that makes sense) but at least familial. them getting together would be ..... weird.

I am so relieved that someone else feels that way. I love alex being like “please forgive my dad friend, he is very grumpy all the time. it will probably happen again.” I also like strand seeing similarities between alex and charlie, making him feel a bit sad, but also nostalgic in a bittersweet way. and anything involving young hip person educating old man about how to get with The Times. familial relationships are so good and I love that for them. but of course them getting together would make that feel so icky....

that dread is the worst. yeah, if they’re going that route, it’s just too rushed and thrown in there. there’s no development, and if they plan on something like “this happened behind the scenes” that’s just bad writing. an audio drama is drama in audio form, not drama that happened elsewhere so here’s something shoehorned in. the podcast deserves better.
