I read the film summary of the reanimator film coming out next year.

Read the film summary and it doesn’t understand that Herbert West wasn’t some clone of Victor Frankenstein. Lovecraft wrote the story for cash, but main difference between Victor Frankenstein and Herbert West was the motive. Frankenstein got inspired after the death of his mother. West was a clinical scientist with a single minded goal who didn’t care if someone got hurt in the process or not.

(Perfect example is in “The Plague-Daemon” where all West cared that the body of his late dean wasn’t “fresh enough” instead of the fact the now zombie dean of the medical school killed multiple people.)

I hope the film is alright but giving West a tragic backstory ruins it for me.

We’re truly not getting a period piece (1903-1921) with homoerotic tension.
