The bones of some 5,000 souls cling to the walls and pillars of Évora’s Bone Chapel, raised in the late 16th century by Franciscan hands. Beneath its dim arches, hollow eyes seem to watch as the inscription above the door whispers its grim welcome: “We bones that are here, await yours.”- Évora, Portugal.

At some point in time my poor (formerly??) rizzless beetle Fib must have finally managed to seduce Fable because I woke up today checked on her and oh god oh fuck she’s giving birth. & on the house Fib fucks, no less.
I… did not think she would choose to lay her eggs. (They can choose not to apparently.) The conditions aren’t right, their tank is kept too dry, I would need to up the humidity a LOT more… Perhaps misting the corner last night triggered her instincts?? But poor girl was running around trying to find a good place to stick her eggs for so long, finally when I came back I noticed just 2 eggs and she was still wandering and trying to lay more… one egg was just on the top soil (will dry out) and the other was on the side of one of their logs (girl what?? Ur supposed to burrow) and I knowww these beetles are difficult to successfully raise I knowww but…
… I made her an emergency birthing box bc in theory she has at least 28 more eggs in there. Maybe more. I transferred her and the two eggs I could find (via tiny damp paint brush) into it and she immediately burrowed!! I believe her ovipositor is still out and deep into the dirt, so, fingers crossed that she’s laying more and does alright!! Tomorrow I go get supplies to make a nursery tank for the eggies and potential wormies <3
Everyone say congrats to the happy parents!!
