Lewis had spent the morning exploring the carnival with Cal while he waited for Tessa to get off work. The plan was for Lewis, Tessa, and whomever else wanted to join to watch Disney movies together. Sure, probably not Lewis’ first choice but they made Tessa happy, and that made Lewis happily. Usually, most of their friends had dates or made other plans, so Valentine’s Day was often a friend date with Tess.
Lewis had already delivered Tess’ gift while she’d been at work. A bouquet he had put together himself, plus her coffee order. It wasn’t perfect, or even as nice as it would have been had he bought it, but he figured she’d appreciate the effort he put into picking out the flowers and wrapping it himself. Lewis had also gotten some chocolate for Harley, as was his tradition, and delivered it to her while she was at work with Cal in tow. In fact, the two were just leaving Harley’s tent when Tess came forward and held out an anatomical heart toy.
“Tess! That’s amazing.” Lewis said, unable to keep himself from smiling as he took the gift from her. The fact that she had worked to find something that matched his interests meant more than he could put into words. “This is great, really.” He said, as he pulled Tessa into a hug.
Cal declined Tessa’s offer to join them for the Disney marathon. This didn’t surprise Lewis, and he greatly appreciated it. Cal knew how Lewis felt about Tessa. “Later, man!” Lewis called, as he and Tessa walked together back towards her house. “Do we have enough snacks? Did you want anything special for during the movies?” Lewis asked, as he looked down at her. He would stop to get anything she wanted for the movie, all she had to do was ask. “I can make a quick stop and pick it up for you.”
Tess was still grinning from the way Lewis had lit up over the little stuffie she gave him. She’d had to order it a month or so back and she was so pleased that he loved it so much. Seeing him so happy was like a straight shot of adrenaline. When he began asking questions, it took her a moment to register and she laughed softly. “Come on, you think I didn’t properly stock up?” she teased, leaning into him in a playful bump as they walked. “I’ve got more snacks and alcohol than just the two of us can handle, don’t worry.”
It didn’t take them long to make it to Tess’ place as she lived walking distance from downtown. When they arrived, she let them both in and headed straight for the kitchen. “Anything in particular you want to start with?” she called over her shoulder as she went. She began pulling out glasses for each of them and then waited for his reply.
