Things seem so dead lately.
Manhattan, I was from Manhattan. It’s definitely…it’s rough living there. They kept trying to stabilize a government, but all the candidates kept getting killed off. The first few days out of the bunker was like…it was bad. But people were surviving, with caution and a little wear and tear, but yes it’s completely plausible that your mother is there and alive.
It was hard to keep track of the population, but I went to Brooklyn after we got out of the bunkers because I figured it was safest to stick to the low rent areas. Everyone tried to fight over the high rises…people who had wanted all their lives saw an opportunity and it turned into a bloodbath. From what I could see in the Brooklyn area there was somewhere between 400 and 600 maybe?
...That almost sounds like New York politics before all of this. I won't put myself in too hopeful of a spot, that'd just be silly...but it's a nice thought. Brooklyn was safer though, you said? That's where I left her...ah, but thinking about it isn't going to help me too much, right? But hundreds? That's...a whole civilization.
...And what was it like out there? You traveled a bit to get here, so you must have...seen some of it, right? Is it still leveled to the ground or...is it becoming lived in again?
