The moment Ari spotted Laurel, she didn’t hesitate to run right up to her and link their arms together. “You’re my official date to this carnival thing,” she declared. “If you had something else planned, cancel it. It’s the least you can do after I risked my life to save you.” She paused and pretended to think about her next words. “But if that other thing is more important than me, I will also accept payment in the form of sex.” That meant to be a joke but both of them knew that it was completely true. Ari wouldn’t hesitate to ditch this entire carnival experience if it meant getting to see Laurel naked.
“I’m not the one for cheesy gestures but it’s kind of nice that they are giving us a night to let loose and remember what it’s like to be alive, even if it’s in the form of a ten-year old child.” Ari couldn’t remember the last time she had gotten excited over something as silly as rides and carnival booths. Her nanny used to bring her to carnivals and amusement parks but her young self always got jealous seeing all the kids with their parents. It wasn’t as fun when the two people who were with her, her nanny and bodyguard, were paid to be there and liked to get in the way of her version of fun (which they always deemed was too dangerous). Therefore, she aged out of such innocent thrills early on in her life.
“Anything you want to do in particular, beautiful? I hear getting drunk is an option.”

Nodding, Cassandra followed Ariadne’s lead and headed to the nearby bench. Sitting down, she made herself comfortable, but still felt completely tense as she listened to the blonde’s instructions. “…I won’t.” she mumbled as she clasped onto her hand. The last thing she wanted to do was to harm the both of them when they were trying to make things right. Therefore, the mutant took a deep breath and braced herself once Ari started.
At first, she felt nothing and wondered if Ari was just fucking around with her. It wasn’t until she felt like her insides were being worked on that Cass flinched slightly, but regained her composure once she got used to the feeling. Luckily, it didn’t give her any sort of flashbacks to Sentinel Service. No trauma had resurfaced and she was able to sit there, all cool, calm, and collected.
After what seemed like a few minutes, Cassandra lifted a brow and asked, “New? You sure? That’s like a bold statement.” She couldn’t see her insides, let alone tell if any damages were repaired, but she could trust Ari since what she felt was real and natural. “Either way thanks for doing this. I appreciate the help.” Her tone was sincere and serious, hoping to convey that she meant every word of gratitude. Narrowing her gaze slightly, Cass refrained from sighing as she nodded instead. “Yeah…But it’s inevitable to avoid ignorant assholes. They’re practically everywhere. Although, I am certain we would have made a greater difference, yet no one wants to give us a chance,”
“As new as the day it began forming in your mother’s womb,” Ari reassured. “I’m not even being dramatic, I kind of made you a brand new liver.” That was the first time Ari had done such a thing but she didn’t think it was in her best interests to reveal such a fact. Luckily, livers were easy to deal with. They are one of the only organs that are capable of regenerating themselves so all Ari had to do was give it an extra push. As long as she did it correctly, it didn’t really matter how many times she’s done it, right? Everyone had to start somewhere.
“People have always been scared of what they don’t understand,” Ari agreed, giving a little shrug. “You know it’s kind of sad. My parents are incredibly Republican like... look at me,” she pointed at her blonde, blue-eyed, pretty, WASP-looking self, as if that would explain everything, “yet nothing I ever did offended them more than me being a mutant. Between my having homosexual casual sex with girls, drug use, nearly flunking out of school, and basically committing every sinful thing listed in the bible, except, y’know, murder and adultery, you’d think they would have kicked me out sooner.”
Ari was never afraid to offend her parents. On the rare occasion when they had dinner together, she was blunt and unapologetic as she always was. Nevertheless, she always hid the fact that she was a mutant to them. She could give them the nitty gritty details of her sexcapades, even with their less than amused faces and looks of disgust, but she couldn’t tell them the one thing she knew would rattle them the most. Part of her still didn’t understand why she hid it for so long. Frankly, she didn’t think knowing would help anyway. “How about you? How did your parents get caught up in the wrong crowd?”
adaptativetyler:
His eyes glanced between both her and the coffee for a moment. Clearly, he was in no urge to wipe off the liquid. “It’s, uh… from the kitchen. Found some there.” Well, he did have to search a lot before finding it, but there certainly was some there. Not the best coffee either, but better than nothing. “It’s… don’t worry about it. Are you sure you need coffee? You already seem energetic enough.” Still, he grabbed the napkins and started trying to get the coffee off his clothes. That wasn’t going to work, of course, but still better than nothing.
Ari paused and pondered his thought. “I suppose I don’t need it. I just like the idea of having something warm to drink and tea is not my... cup of tea.” Thanks to her powers, as long as she fuelled her body with food, energy was never really a problem. The body had natural chemicals that she could release at will if she ever needed a real pick-me-up, but that didn’t mean she didn’t like creature comforts every once in a while. “Besides, coffee is one of those things where smelling it makes me instantly crave it. Don’t you feel the same way?”
andragons:
“You people?” Pandora looked at Ari, clearly puzzled. She wasn’t quite sure what they’d meant by it and whether to be offended or not. “Well my power isn’t strictly fire, it just includes it. And I don’t think I can really control it, per say. It just… comes out? That sounds weird.” She shrugged. “I could just show you, I guess?”
When Pandora offered to show her, Ari immediately nodded her head, very eager to see what the woman could do. Considering the woman’s power had to do with fire, Ari should have been a bit more cautious and concerned about her safety but her reckless, thrill-seeking personality coupled with her near inability to die made her unable to take safety too seriously.
adamroberts:
“Fuck… You’d be a life saver after a workout. Put protein powder outta business,” Adam murmured, feeling his mouth tug into a slow grin as he gave up control, his body, to Ariadne. The heat rolled through him and he blinked at the weirdness of it. Then he sighed, low and heavy, eyes closing and basking in it. After the heat came that muscle ‘sigh’ he remembers from the next day or two after a long jog, only this one felt good rather than being an omen for sensitivity.
“Fuckin’ ‘ell…if you could bottle that you’d be a billionaire. Cheers.” It was on the tip of his tongue to deflect back around to Ariadne and ask her how she could hurt people. His mind supplied images of American Horror Story and Resident Evil and…after her magic touch…he let himself answer her. “Usually it jus’ works in an area, or the room I’m in,” He said, and would’ve shrugged if he wasn’t lying on his back beside her like some sickly teen rom-com.
Ari grinned at Adam’s compliment. “Even if I could bottle up my magic soreness cure, I’d probably be too lazy to do it.” Despite looking like a princess whenever she was in a dress (which usually required someone to force her into it), Ari was quite happy as long as her basic needs were met. She could survive without all the fancy things that she grew up with so the idea of making millions didn’t appeal to her. If anything, that was way too much work.
“Is it bad that the first thought that comes to mind when you say you can freeze a room is to do a stupid prank like drawing dicks on everyone’s face?” she replied, unable to keep a straight face. Adam’s powers would probably be the most useful for pranking people. People were helpless to silly little tricks if they didn’t have the ability to react to them. “They are probably deadly as well, but y’know, pranking is so much more fun than murder.”
obscurien:
Adrien had been in the middle of working out. He didn’t have a planned session at the moment, but he needed a way to get rid of his excess energy and anger. When he heard someone enter the room he turned on his toes, wiping sweat from his brow.
“Adrien is my name.” He said, looking concerned until she mentioned Thea. “Oh yeah. I can help you with power control and combat skills. Biological manipulations. That’s a sweet power. I’ve only got shadow manipulation but most things are learning to control your mind anyways so we can work on that. What do you know how to do?” He asked.
Ari may have raised a brow and curiously looked back at her own shadow when Adrien told her his power. Shadow control? That was something she would have never expected. How did something like that even work? Nevertheless, since he was training her, she supposed it was more proper for her to deal with his questions.
“My body naturally heals itself without me trying, self-preservation probably. I can also heal other people but it’s... complicated. Otherwise, I generally just know how to tweak my appearance and others. Can’t do anything too abnormal though. The human body has its limits.”
elliexjones:
“Burns don’t look fun,” Elliot said, sympathetically. She shook the other girls hand, laughing. “I get what you’re talking about. I’m Ellie!” She watched Ari, clearly impressed. “That’s awesome! Can you just heal yourself or can you heal others too?” Elliot had always been interested in mutants, even before she knew she was one herself.
“I can heal others. I’m a walking-talking medical miracle.” Ari was definitely not the type to be modest. She spent twenty-seven years hiding her gifts from everyone so now that it was finally out in the open, she was not ashamed to share it. It was cool and anyone who thought differently wasn’t worth her time. “So what brings you to the not actually under the ground underground?”
xxviindictive:
Standing there silently, Cassandra watched carefully as Ariadne got to work. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but she could definitely feel that her body was being assessed. She focused on her breathing and reassured herself that this was for her own good. Being on the run meant that she had no rights, which meant that health care was out of the question. Therefore, it was for the best if she wanted to live the long fight.
After hearing the verdict, Cass looked away and sighed. It was a tired one in fact, knowing that the results were to be expected and she had her parents to thank for this. Returning her gaze on Ari, the brunette gave in and nodded as she accepted her help. She didn’t know how to trust others especially after what she had went through. Therefore, this was all new to her and if she was going to have to try, then might as well start now. She came to the Underground for the sake of having a safe haven and a break from always looking over her shoulder, the least she could do is try to gain allies and accept help.
“No it’s alright, have at it. Are we doing it here? Or is this something that’s strenuous, that we need to be situated elsewhere?” They were in a library out of all places and she wasn’t sure if this was a process that inflicted pain of any sort. “I was eighteen when they put me in the program and twenty-five when I escaped. So I don’t blame my liver for ending up like this.”
Ari considered it a personal victory when Cassandra gave in and let out a big grin. “We should probably sit down but it’s really just a matter of me focusing for a few minutes.” She gestured for Cassandra to follow her to the nearby bench before taking it upon herself to take Cassandra’s hand again, clasping it tightly in hers. “Try not to pull away or do anything drastic. It’s going to feel weird but if you make me fear for my life, it’s not going to help matters.”
Ariadne gave her one last nod before taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. She focused in on the spots she had found the last time and slowly began to urge the cells to either grow or she gave them a new lease on life. Whenever she healed other people, it always felt like her power was leaving her body and pouring into the other person. Sometimes she considered it akin to a cell transfusion. All she kew was that whenever she finished, she always felt slightly drained and it wasn’t the best feeling.
They stayed in that position for a few minutes before Ari eventually opened her eyes. “Good as new,” she stated, pulling away. She felt a bit winded and like she had aged a few years but all it would take was a decent meal and a good night’s rest to restore her back to her usual energetic self. “Can you imagine how many lives we could save if society wasn’t filled with ignorant assholes?” It was really such a waste that most of the people here had to hide their powers from the rest of the world.

Laurel felt her stomach twist. It churned uncomfortably at the sight of Ari’s bloodied skin, the bullet a bump underneath her shoulder like a giant metal cyst. With slow hands she carefully undid her seatbelt, looking away as she collected her breath. She had never been good with blood or gore.
Her face was pale as she turned back around and looked back at Ari. “Break open your–” she swallowed some stomach acid that was climbing up her throat, gagging. When she recovered, she nodded her head. “Just–just focus on my eyes, okay?”
With that, Laurel leaned forward and forced herself to not look at the bump poking out of Ari’s shoulder. Her eyes began to glow and she pushed around Ari’s thoughts. She imagined soothing the girl, like tucking her into bed or giving her a hug, things that were calming and gave warmth and comfort. Ari deserved a little comfort, even if it technically wasn’t coming from Laurel but her own mind.
Ariadne happily gave into Laurel’s invasion, finding comfort in the little things she was projecting. Admittedly, they weren’t exactly things she was used to experiencing but it felt warm nevertheless. At the same time, it wasn’t overwhelming like what she did before so Ari was able to focus on her own powers. Slowly, the bullets began to pop out of her back, leaving nothing but a messy trail of blood and some scars behind. She could deal with those later.
When Ari finished, she was back to her feminine self, her body shifting into default because it was the easiest way for her to return her body to normal. The only difference was that she felt ten times heavier than usual from pure exhaustion alone. She reached up and touched Laurel’s face before using the last bit of her energy to turn the woman back to normal. Sentinels were searching for a redhead and her boyfriend, not a very innocent looking blonde. Also, she was about to pass out and didn’t know how long she would be out. If it was longer than an hour, Laurel would probably kill her for not turning her back first. “There... perfect.”
With that, the world went black.
