Russ followed her back to the table, shaking his head fondly as he went. “That’s perfect." He smiled softly, leaning against one of the chairs and laughing at Cotton running around on the ground. As Alice left the room to feed the tiny cat, he quickly poured their drinks, pulling Alice’s chair out and waiting for her to come back.
She re-entered the room, and he grinned at her, motioning to the seat. “M’lady." Russ had always been taught that you should always be a gentleman, no matter the occasion. He’d never been particularly good at it, not always, but he did try. And he hoped that was enough.
Alice poured dry food into Cotton's bowl, and he dug in straight away. God, he was getting fat. Alice smiled at the cat and walked back to the table, and grinned at Russell. Alice walked over to the seat. "Why thank you." She said, taking a seat. She saw the drinks already poured and she smiled at Russell.
"You're sneaky." She said with a playful smirk. Alice didn't expect Russell to do anything tonight, but she guessed his helpful nature got the best of him. Alice took Russell's plate and started serving. "Just tell me when." She said with a smile.Â

As she pointed at the draw, Russ nodded happily, going straight for it and enthusiastically pulling out knives and forks. He couldn’t help but get a little distracted by Alice for a moment, and before he knew it, she was gone and he was left in the kitchen with no idea what he was supposed to be doing. Or where he was supposed to be looking.
Alice came back into the room, smirking at him slightly (which, he figured, he probably deserved). He hummed in acknowledgement as she pulled two plates from the cupboard directly behind him - also the only cupboard he hadn’t looked in yet. “Ah, so clever." Biting his lip, he grinned at her happily.
Alice smiled at Russell. "Ain't I just?" She said, before turning around and walking back to the table, setting the plates down. She turned back and headed into the kitchen to try and find something to drink. "Hm." She said to herself. Alice looked around her fridge, when a few bottles of Coke caught her eye. "Ah!" She said, pulling two out of the fridge, then closing the door with her hip.
"I've got some Coke, is that okay?" She asked Russell, pulling two glasses out of the cupboard. Alice heard Cotton meow just as she went to pour the drinks. "I'm guessin' it's dinner time for you too, eh?" She said, picking up the furry cat.Â
I want to work at Ben & Jerry's.
Anyone who says otherwise is lying through their teeth.
Only crazy people and people with no taste buds don't like ice cream.Â

"It will, love. I’m sure of it." He raised his eyebrows at her, hoping to get her to stop frowning. Whatever she did, or whatever happened to the food, he would be happy. That wasn’t why he was here. “Is… now a thing that could happen?" He smiled hopefully. At Alice’s positive reaction, he figured that that was probably the right answer.
Walking towards the pots on the stove, he turned back to her. “Can I… help with anything?" He glanced around him. “Plates, cutlery? Anything?" Russ was aware of the fact that he was probably being completely useless, possibly even in the way, but he didn’t want Alice to have to do all the work here. He had to at least try and help her out.
Alice grinned as she walked behind Russell into the kitchen. She looked around, before turning to face him. "Uh, yeah sure. There's plates in the cupboard behind you and cutlery in that draw." She said. Alice turned to the sauces a pasta, barely hiding a blush. She reached over to a cupboard next her her and took out a large serving bowl. She pour the pasta in with the sauce and carefully stirred. She carried the bowl out to the table and when back into the kitchen for drinks, to see a confused looking Russell.
"Need some help?" Alice asked with a small laugh. She walked over to where he was stand, reached to the cupboard behind him and grabbed two plates.Â
I want to work at Ben & Jerry's.
Employees get to take home 3 pints of ice cream a day.
That is my kind of job!
Ice-cream is my weakness.Â

"Hm. Well, you definitely should." He tapped her on the nose affectionately, smiling softly at her. Cooking was obviously something that Alice was very passionate about, and he was glad that she had wanted to share it with him. She seemed like the sort of person who didn’t do that very often.
As Alice leapt out of her seat, Russ copied her, looking around slightly confusedly. He had no idea what was going on. Carefully, he followed Alice into her kitchen, leaning on the doorframe and watching as she stirred the pot. He would have interrupted, tried to help, but she looked way to into what she was doing to want him coming in and most likely messing everything up. As she walked over to him, Russ hummed in understanding. Not that he particularly understood anything at all to do with cooking, but he could pretend. “I’m sure it’ll still taste brilliant. Even if it’s slightly burnt." He grinned at her, biting his lip.
Alice felt herself blush a little, and she smiled. "Thank you. I really hope it still tastes okay." She said, with a slight frown. Being is such a small kitchen, Alice hardly had enough room to make the things she was used to. Before she came to Fitz, Alice spent most of her time cooking. Her parents never said a word, but she knew that they would have preferred her training over cooking. But, Alice ignored them. It was hard to do that sometimes, because they had been so influential in all of her decisions, but cooking was something Alice could do for herself, and she liked it.Â
Alice looked back at Russell, and her frown quickly turned into a small smile. "Speakin' of food, do you want to eat now, or later?" She asked, biting her lip. Alice was hoping he said now, because she was really hungry. But, when wasn't she?Â
[Lays on the grass, somewhere near the gardens]
Hmph.Â
-sips his coffee-
I really, really hate lockdowns
That makes two of us.Â
I miss my burger place.
No, I meant in-n-out as in the fast-food restaurant. Their burgers are the best!
Pfft, no way. It's a little independent place I found 'round here. They have the best chips I have ever tasted.Â
[mumbles] Need coffee.Â
[Hears a mumble and smirks] Well, it's you're lucky day. I was just on my way to get one.Â
Is everyone doing all right?
Again? I thought you were going to sleep.
I did, for a few hours.
I miss my burger place.
 Which is…in-n-out?
It's out. And it makes me sad.Â
Is everyone doing all right?
 You don’t seem confident.
I am. Just, tired, I think.Â
Is everyone doing all right?
I’m worried.
I'm sure everythin' is fine.Â
I miss my burger place.

"Very good." Russ smiled at her, glancing quickly over at the vase of flowers on the table. Sure, they might not look that impressive, but she had seemed happy enough with them. He had been mostly successful.  "I’m sure it will. You’re a cooking angel, remember?" He grinned, remembering the last time that he had come over like this. It had been so long ago, and things had been very different then. He would be lying if he said he didn’t like this time a little more already.
At her mention of the lock down, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, yep. Definitely enjoying it." He bit his lip. “I hardly know how to contain my excitement." The whole thing was beginning to get slightly on his nerves, and it wasn’t often that happened to Russ. He knew that it was for the greater good, if there was such a thing, but he couldn’t help but feel it was slightly useless keeping him away from his house and, more importantly, his bed. He hadn’t had a proper sleep in days.
Alice laughed a little at his comment. "Why thank you. It's not everyday I get called a cookin' angel." She said. Alice was glad Russell liked her food. She'd never really been one to be so open about something she'd usually kept from other people. It was nice having someone to share something she enjoyed so much. Before Russell, Alice's cooking was strictly for her taste buds only.
Alice smirked and laughed at Russell's comments, when she realised she left the stove on. "Shit!" Alice said as she jumped out of her seat and ran to the kitchen. She had no idea how she didn't notice when she was only in here a few minutes ago. Alice pulled the pot of sauce, which was bubbling over the edges, off the heat and turned off the stove. She grabbed a spoon and stirred, relived that it hadn't burnt to the bottom of the pot. Alice sighed and walked back out to Russell. "I left the stove on." She said with a sheepish smile.Â
