Heart Transplant, the Revolving Door, Chapter 2: Fighting Ghosts | Archive of Our Own

“You need someone to show you the ropes, teach you how to keep from getting eaten by the wildlife or flayed alive by raiders... and how to—”
“How to live with being... a ghoul,” Thaddeus cut her off, and her smile grew. It didn’t sting as much to say it when she obviously didn’t think less of him for it.
“And I need someone to watch my back, split the night watch so I can actually get sleep for once, tell me jokes and laugh at my stupid stories,” she rambled, trying to avoid her own point. But eventually she sighed at herself and said what she really meant: “I need someone to help keep me human. And I’ve got a good feeling you fit the bill.”
Thaddeus couldn’t remember the last time he’d ever “fit the bill” for anything.

If there was one benefit to an ex-Brotherhood squire very probably becoming a ghoul, it was certainly that it would give Thaddeus all the time in the world he needed to mold himself into whatever shape Katya needed.
