RYAN GOSLING as RYLAND GRACE Project Hail Mary (2026) dir. Phil Lord, Chris Miller
and out of the darkness - you you you you you
[Description: a looping bouncy animation of grace and Rocky from project hail mary. Grace throws himself onto rocky for a hug, smiling and nuzzling his face to the top of Rocky's xenonite covered carapace. Rocky brings a claw up to ruffle Grace's hair and grace throws himself even more on top of rocky, rocky wrapping his arms around grace. End description.]
“Eridians dislike earth because they abandoned Grace.” *Incorrect Buzzer Sound* ya missed the point of the story buddy! It’s not about someone being ‘bad’ it’s about the incredible power of love and that love being worth dying for!
Gimmie Eridians who are absolutely heartbroken to hear that humans where so desperate and so scared that they where willing to part with not just one Grace, there were three of them! Gimmie Eridians touched to find that the humans planned a way for their sacrifices to be as comfortable as possible. Gimmie Eridians who send earth a message saying “We know it must have hurt to send your heroes to die, but one made it and he’s safe here. We lost 22 good Eridians on the journey we would have lost 23 if not for your Grace.”
Give me humans sitting on Earth slowly coming to the conclusion that when we look up not only are we not alone, someone out there is alive because of one of us. That no matter what we think of ourselves a whole species thinks highly of us because we helped save the galaxy. Give me humans who figure out how to send a probe to Erid filled to the brim with messages for Grace and footage of a monument being raised that reads his name, his crews names, and then “in memory of the 22 Eridians who lost their lives on the journey to save the stars.”
i bet the world was told the tale of how ryland grace heroically stepped up and sacrificed himself as the science specialist after the explosion. i bet his students were told that their teacher bravely chose to die to save them, all of them. ryland grace, the savior of earth.
no one will ever know he was dragged kicking and screaming. no one will ever see the cctv footage of him running, screaming, begging for his life.
the story they will be told of ryland grace, the savior of the universe, will be a bold faced lie.
and no one will know he did willingly sacrifice himself to save rocky.
no one will know he could have come home. no one will know he finally found his purpose amongst the stars.
I could never find the right way to tell you, have you noticed I've been gone?
Immense gratitude
compilation of silly animations i made
went to see it for the 6th time yesterday and i still giggled during this part like a little kid
Some Project Hail Mary Fanarts🌠👎
I adore this movie so so much, it hurts.
In his own ship, mind you.

Project Hail Mary (2026) - Ryland Grace crying
rocky fully expected to die when he broke out of his ball into an atmosphere his body couldn't withstand to save grace and the ship.
grace fully understood that turning around to save rocky from the taumoeba would be condemning himself to a long death in space.
they both knowingly and willingly sacrificed themselves. they both answered "who would you die for?" with a resounding "each other."
and only because of that did they both survive to their happy endings.
"Hey Carl... Do we have an expense account?" "We don't. — But I do."
+ bonus
The way Rocky pushes up into the xenonite so he can be even closer to Grace and the way Grace wraps his arms tighter around him have I ever mentioned they make me fucking ill.
AND ROCKY'S HAPPY HUMS OF CONTENTMENT GOD. THEY MAKE ME SO SICK!!!!!!
And hang out they did
went to see PHM a fifth time and it still baffles me whenever i hear people (read: men) laughing during the scene when grace is running away from the guards who are chasing him down.
they laugh when grace starts to stand, getting on the cabinet. they laugh when he dashes across the field and gets tackled to the ground. they laugh when he gets injected even as his voice cracks, trying to fight for his life while his autonomy is ripped out of his hands.
grace is forced to give up his life. he is put into an induced coma and then sent to another solar system 11.9 light years away without his consent, knowing he won't be returning. and one of their main defenses is the fact that he has "no immediate family" and doesn't even "have a dog".
it's sickening. there's comedic factor, sure. but it's so heartbreaking to hear his voice break as he begs for them not to do it, as he begs for his LIFE. as he begs for carl—a person he's spent so much time with during the whole mission. 'carl' is literally his last word on earth.
he's being sent to save humanity and die afterwards against his will, and you're laughing?? wow
