Jax might be the most popular trans woman in media. Shes a main character (alongside pomni) in one of the most successful indie series of all time, and she is repeatedly shown struggling with dysphoria and internalized misogyny/transphobia. and nobody had any problems with that until they put a bow on her and said it outright in the finale.

Why do you think her being trans wasn't confirmed until the finale? coincidentally why did so many prior TADC fans seemingly jump ship as soon as episode 9 came out? (they have the same answer!)

Jax's story is about a trans girl who hates herself and is suffering because of transphobia. Her struggles are deeply personal and brutally realistic to what it means to be trans, so of course she connected with millions of struggling trans people. But she could never have had this impact if people knew she was trans in episode one.

Jax became one of the most famous instances of trans representation because she benefited from people treating her as cis and giving her attention accordingly.

so of course they would be mad and hate the finale, it told them that the entirety of the show they had been watching a trans girl, promoting her message that trans people are struggling, and that we should be supported.

But people weren't ready to admit that they had seen themselves in her, they had accidentally sympathized with the people they demonized, they had seen her struggles as one of their own and promoted her. But "hes trans?? he cant be!" and "the series was bad anyway" is their response to creating and elevating a message that will teach so many trans woman that they aren't alone, and that they can heal.

Hi, I'm Ali

and for the past year (or maybe even longer, oh my word) I've been writing a post-canon Owl House fan-fiction with a mix of canon and original characters. When I finished The Owl House for the first time, I was super sad and wanted there to be more to explore, so that's what my fic aims to achieve.

I've put in a lot of work on world building, and all that comes out to about four "episodes" (chapters) about Gravesfield, Hexside, and the Boiling Isles, with four more to come, hopefully sometime soon.

The series takes place about twenty years after the original show, and follows an entirely original cast with the canon cast making limited, but significant appearances. They're adults now and kind of badass.

I've known Sai Syed for less than four hours and I already can't stand him. He is the most insistent, most overbearing, most FANATIC person I've ever met. Here we are, sitting in a freaking AWESOME magical mystery room, in a magical land, and, like, it's, just, like-- deep breath, Jana. THERE'S A LOT OF MAGIC! And, now, a guy's fallen out of our ceiling and landed face down on the third bed (which makes three out of four accounted for) and all he wants to do is talk about real world politics or something. Ugh!

“I WILL NOT ALLOW THIS ARGUMENT TO BE DERAILED WHEN I AM SO CLOSE TO GETTING THROUGH TO YOU!”

I want to stick out my tongue and hiss at him, but as far as my books have shown, that's not what sophisticated folk do. Oh, and, by the way, decidedly NOT close to getting through to me. Boooo. My fingers shake with the urge to ball up into fists, but I resist, for the sake of my violin. Oh yeah, that's right, by the way. Jana Jabuer is a proud, elegant violinist, with big dreams and big things ahead of her! Not to be confused with the guy in front of me, who fell out of the ceiling. He's kind of--well, actually, it's hard to tell if he's big or small or, really, anything. He's tangled up like a pretzel.

I think he could be that new best friend that I'm looking for--AND NO, SAI DOESN'T COUNT, HE'S ANNOYING.

If amnestics were real, I'd use them to forget movie depictions of book characters that look nothing like I imagined them

I'm always confused, and I mean no offense by this, by how many more AU fics there are than canon continuation and canon compliant fics out there. I've always thought of fanfiction as a way of processing grief for a series that you feel that ended, not even necessarily prematurely, but before you were ready. That's been my experience, anyway.

I think I've spent almost five times as wrong revising my fic than I have actually writing new material -- unless you count complete rewrites as new material, in which case that still comes out to too many hours

Worst is AO3 doesn't update anyone when you make edits, so as far as my readers know, I've been gone for half a year

That's right: you. Well, not the person reading this, the boy in front of me. The Collector very specifically told me that I'm not allowed to break the fourth wall anymore. "Blah, blah; The fabric of reality, Luz!" Agh! I'm getting distracted again.

Gus said we can't take anymore kids, but--come on--look at him! He's so sad, and... angsty. Like when I met Hunter, but less, y'know, violent... probably. Haven't double checked that one yet. Oh, Hunted. Hunter and Hunted. Ha, that's--

Oh Titan, he's looking at me.

"I don't need this," he says, pressing the invitation back into my open hand, pushing out away from him at the same time. He stands and retreats a step away from me. He looks down, unkempt dark hair falling over his eyes. Despite his best efforts, I know he's been crying.

"Won't you at least keep the card?" I ask.

"I don't know who you think you are, lady, but I don't need your pity. I'm not a kid. Save it for someone who does, like that snake. Seriously, please find that snake."

He's wrong on that first count, but he does have a point on the second one. What was I thinking, letting that ten foot long snake loose in the Gravesfield forest?
