company is doing "safety subjects" and focusing on mental health. totally a sign that everything is normal and no one is struggling under a ridiculous load. everything is totally fine!

pretty sure my mother-in-law is mad at me now because I 1. wouldn't agree to let her stay in our house during our visit because neither of our spare rooms are cleared out enough to fit a bed and we also don't have a guest bed yet and 2. I won't pull baby boy out of childcare for the duration of her visit and let her take care of him.
for the first, we will eventually have a study/guest bedroom but we're still unpacking all of our boxes and I am not going to rush out to get the daybed we want before we're ready. plus, we're not going to allow her to stay for two weeks (or worse, however long she's planning on manipulating us into letting her visit but we're holding firm to the two weeks timeline). in fact, we're never going to let anyone stay with us for longer than a week outside of emergencies. a week is more than long enough for guests, especially ones that drive me a bit crazy at the best of times.
and for the second, she won't accept that it's not good for baby boy to massively disrupt his routine. I've offered to keep him out two days a week so she can take care of him. I am also a little concerned that she won't be able to pick him up anymore. he's grown a lot and even though I carry him around every single day, he's heavy for me. so I am a bit concerned about her ability to take care of him but mostly, he just won't understand why things are suddenly very different. he's just not old enough yet
and it's just so frustrating because it would be nice if one of her visits didn't cause me and my husband extreme amounts of stress. but every "no" is just an apparent invitation for negotiation and it's so. fucking. exhausting.

love to get sick during year-end, which means I can't use any sick leave unless I'm dying because there's no one to do the work
not that I would probably be able to mentally handle taking sick leave. I'm getting anxious when I try to work from home because it feels like slacking off
my husband's company has posted a job that I think I would be qualified for, and some of his coworkers made sure to point out the job posting to him so he could tell me about it
but I'm still feeling so hesitant about applying. it's not like I would be working with him. I just...don't know

thought my depression was getting better
it is, in fact, getting so much worse and i get the joy of working constantly because it's year-end
I had a bit of time on my hands yesterday so I decided to take my company's new rollout of copilot out for a spin in excel
at first, I just had it do a few things in a spreadsheet I had created and then just asked it to run an analysis. and the results made me feel sick to my stomach because they were good and accurate.
then I had a think and was like "I did a lot of work organizing the raw data into something usable so that might be skewing the results. let's try the raw data." did that, asked it to run an analysis. got absolute dogshit that was useless and wrong and felt a lot better.
I do think it's important to learn how to use the tools that are available and will keep playing around with it to see what might improve my work processes and what won't. but it could not do what I did, which was align data from two different payroll systems and identify what was useful information and what was not. the results it gave me also included zero formulas so if I didn't already know what the outcome should be, I would have had a hell of a time checking it and figuring out what went wrong. anyway, it was a useful experiment and as my husband pointed out, even if I don't end up using it a lot in my work, being able to talk in interviews about what I find useful and what I don't, and why, is still going to be beneficial for my future.
I do continue to be concerned about people just blithely using it, particularly entry level employees just getting started in their careers. it's not a magic machine, it's just one more tool that has the potential to create both efficiencies and real problems. and you need to be able to know the difference.
Where are you on the kinsey scale of fiction/fic reading?
0 Exclusively read original fiction
1 Predominantly read original fiction, rarely read fanfic
2 Predominantly read original fiction, often read fanfic
3 Equally read original fiction and fanfiction
4 Predominantly read fanfic, often read original fiction
5 Predominantly read fanfic, rarely read original fiction
6 Exclusively read fanfic
x I don't read lol
I wanna talk about it / results
I'm curious too, about the drive towards one or the other. If youre a 1-2, what makes you seek out fanfic? If youre a 4-5, what makes you seek out original fiction?
I've started just lying in bed or sitting and doing nothing because I'm so miserable
was kind of hoping this depression would have cleared up by now because it's not like I can just quit my job even if it makes me wish I were dead
wait ok this is actually one that has caused some contention before when I've talked to people about it. reblog and tag whether or not you check the weather prediction every day before going out
I took a week off work to try and recover a bit and now that I have to go back, I can just feel the anxiety coming back.
like it took until last Friday for me to feel a bit more normal even though I was still feeling stress and anxiety when I tried to sleep
