Since we are on this wolfstar vs prongsfoot thing, can you please tell me how do you stay consistent on prongsfoot? I used to like it too, years ago. But the pressure of being wrong, of being seeing the characters wrong and all that "boys doesnt being allow to just being best mates" did crushed every feeling i had for it and now there is just nothing lol

This is a tough one for me to answer because I genuinely can’t picture Sirius or James with anyone except each other 😂 I suspect part of it is spending so much time writing about them, so they’ve become a fixed landmark in my mind. If I lost interest in them I’d just move onto a new fandom because they’re the only reason I’m keen on the Marauders era.

And I really hate the idea that “boys aren’t allowed to just be best mates” has to mean that if you see romantic potential in them, you’re somehow seeing their friendship incorrectly. The same argument could be made for any ship involving the marauders being into each other so it applies to Wolfstar just as much. It’s usually just weaponised to undermine ships people are threatened by so I don’t let it bother me.

No one has the One True Interpretation™️ of the characters in fandom. It’s all valid. I’m not worried about whether my interpretation gets a mark of approval from strangers on the internet. All I know is Sirius and James are in love and I can’t stop making them kiss 🐾🦌

But look at the end of the day fandom is meant to be fun. If you’re not into PF anymore that’s fine, though I’m sad to hear it was the fandom attitude to them that turned you off. It’s not easy to ship a rare pair but trends come and go in fandom. You never know: maybe Prongsfoot will have their day 🤷‍♀️

As a new-ish marauders fan with not a lot of perspective on the current fandom, what are the hallmarks of the “new age” marauders fandom? How have things changed over the years that make it less fun and inviting?

I won't be the most articulate, so fair warning but will try my best. First off it's people who come into the fandom that haven't read the books (you can easily find the books free online, they literally are online so they have access) and despite the movies many more flaws, they barely even watched that but instead use popular fics that change characters and what makes them fundamentally them and use it as the bible source of what HP/Marauders are. Like say the fic atyd, and it's not the authors fault by the way so not sending hate their way. Now related to using popular fics as their sources, they often come from tiktok/twitter with only knowledge of popular/bnf's (big known fans, like popular artists and fic writers) content they shared. And treat the fandom as a whole as cringe and simultaneously a popularity competition. So what I am trying to say is also how new people to fandom been treating well established fandom and disregard every fandom etiquette. Seeing Tumblr and especially ao3 a place about numbers and not respecting the effort creators put into their work. (This is long.)

So incomes popular fanon destroying characters, making some less nuanced, erasing others, etc. Now I want to put this into someone's thought, why change a character so much to 'reclaim them' from their creator (jkr, yeah she is a horrible person we all know that but she did indeed make the characters and the charterers have established facts). Like Remus for example, I have seen change so much, to a casanova, smoking (because it's aesthetic of him and not because man has anxiety or stressed which would be more fitting of his character), aggressive, angry man with a nonchalant snarky attitude. Tattooed up as well. Which yeah I am not saying that hc is harmful but it's another aspect people new age marauders give to Remus that doesn't fit into Remus the character.

He is not someone who'd even want a tattoo to risk standing out. And this can be hard to explain because you know, it's fandom, we are here for fun and not all hc's need to make sense. But also when does changing a character not literally just make them an OC? I call fanon Remus, Romulus because bro does not act like Remus. The most egregious to me is what they've done to Sirius Black. Making him super short, for some reason, ditzy angry twink. Who is not clever, sorry Remus and Regulus took his cleverness away. French, for some reason as if not having a french family motto despite not being french isn't common (I sound like I hate the french, no, but Black family is an old English family. XD) Sirius' starvation and torture that left his body thin turned into a uwu twink pretty boy who only has thoughts of Remus. They also underplay or ignore how close James and Sirius were, the real best friends. Sirius doubted Remus' loyalty, just like Remus did to Sirius and what I am getting at again is the boring way they try to make wolfstar seem so solid. And it's okay to write it that way but so many don't, they just clone the way they see the characters in a popular post and leave it that. Also this take is controversial but the changing of white characters into poc characters like Remus and James with no real effort put into why. Or making it offensive. Stereotyping it. But most off treating fandom like it's activism. Sorry but none of it will help real minorities suffering in rl. But yet new age fans want to appear progressive. Like I see poc james is made super tall, buff, not smart anymore, jocky and ship him with regulus only and make Regulus extra pale, small, short, super smart. I don't know but I've been in fandom so long. I get grossed out by the darker skinned character always embodying more masculine traits and the lighter skin one is more feminine. This applies to new age wolfstar too. Super tall Remus to small delicate Sirius. Black brothers the ones always made trans in trans hcs. Always the gay ones with no other identities say making them pan or bi.

But this never wants to be discussed. And I get it, how it can me me look even. "oh so you don't like poc characters, everyone always has to be white?". The author is a white lady, the places set in a country of mostly white folks. She literally says when a character is not white, there are some art of pottermore depicting characters as white. And as a kid I already had a vision of them so I won't change it to appear progressive. That feels disingenuous and years of seeing big corps show so little effort to actually care to show real rep, it sickens me to change it and be as shallow as them. I want to be as authentic as I can be. I make OC's up to fill up the world further. Though I do know HP OC's can be basically ignored or you are viewed as 'cringey' (as if everyone wasn't in the same fandom) which deterred me from sharing. And that's despite blank slate, characters mentioned only by name like Marlene Mckinnon are given so much fanon personality yet merlin forbid (XD sorry had to) want to make her different than how she is perceived by popularity consensus. Which is hypocritical.

There's a lot of hypocrisy. Like the female characters all being slapped with the bad bitch lesbian labels and that's as deep as it gets, the only thing bad ass about them is that they sass James and Sirius. Seen so much text posts of literally marlene shitting on James and Sirius and well makes her boring. That's not interesting. That's exactly what triple A hollywood studios do, how they write badass women. It makes them bland and no one likes a character being mean out the blue to a character and no it doesn't make it better because the character they are bashing is a guy. I lot more can be said with more nuance than even I know how to muster in some way that makes it all clear. There are better people for this in the fandom who can explain new age marauders fan. I know I can be harsh like sometimes I can call them normies who entered true fandom because HP fandom has existed before COVID lock down that had people be online way more than ever before. So it's different than fandom that has only existed since 2020, marauders fandom existed before tiktok edits and fic reviews (hate those they are mean spirited) made it gain more attention, before jegulus was considered more than a crackship. But please don't take me as some authority figure. And ship what you want. Just use proper tags. And don't bullying others. You know, the basic human decency protocol.

I wrote a lily/regulus fic before Regulus was woobified, before lily was seen in the fandom as 'perfect bad ass lesbian that we won't write about', before jegulus ever popped off and was taken too seriously for a crack ship. So I feel if I tried to redo/rewrite/recreate (pick a word, fyre!), the fandom would be offended since I don't write either in the new age marauders fandom way. But this is me just musing to myself.

UGHHH them in general, I am a submissive James truther but with prongsfoot specifically he is a BRAT, to the point where id argue he may be a switch bc he does end up being dominant sometimes, but for the most part he's submitting
