I saw this post recently that implied that “kink is playing toys” and “kink always has wider, social and cultural implications” are like, opposing statements. I think that’s so wild. like, have you ever heard of Cowboys and Indians? Cops and robbers? “Little boys”, beaten for playing dolls? “Little girls” forced to stay in and clean up after their brothers playing outside? In what universe is playing toys not deeply implicated in. Everything??? This isn’t even an argument about harm in kink this is like a very basic observation about the nature of play.

Will u elaborate on the bottoming thing. Bc no I haven’t noticed but that’s prob bc im self centered. I’d like to know more

i just don’t know why we’re acting like 1) it’s a requirement and 2) it’s a sign of true emotional maturity/mental wellbeing. like that top does not need to bottom in order to be a well adjusted man or a good person or to have healed his inner child. maybe he just wants to top. why are we treating it like it’s the end goal in every gay relationship for the top to bottom as part of a journey of self discovery. he doesn’t bottom because he doesn’t want to. he doesn’t want a dick in his ass. this is actually a very common stance to take on the matter of having a dick in your ass. they do not have to be vers. we should not insist that everyone be vers. i think it’s really really weird that we are acting like a gay top giving up his bottoming virginity (to the guy he usually tops) is some great defining character moment that signifies the end of his healing arc. like what? bottoming is not the more woke/neutral sexual role. bottoming is not an indicator of emotional wellbeing or sensitivity or true love or anything like that. it’s just bottoming. and not everybody does it. and not everybody has to do it. just weird idk. bothers me. the bottom is not necessarily a more sensitive, nuanced person than the top because he likes to get fucked in the ass. he just likes to get fucked in the ass. maybe he doesn’t want to top, either. these roles exist because people inhabit them. i just think this approach to sex as character study betrays a misunderstanding of gay relationships + sex + how to execute good character study. anyway. that’s just my opinion. and this is not about anything specific it’s a bunch of little things that have added up into one big irritant for me
