Bellatrix Diopside Black— Born August 1st, 1951
From the moment she was born, the hottest day of the summer, there was nothing easy about her. She's known as the ruin of Druella Black, as her mother wasn't quite the same since. The tell tale sign was that two weeks after she was born, her mother tried to suffocate her with a pillow as she sobbed, saying Bellatrix was born wrong and that she needed to die. That was the day Bellatrix was separated from her mother.
Growing up, Bellatrix had a clear expectation placed upon her— That she would do everything in her power to become heir. It was unlikely and most likely impossible, but with no boys in the family, there was the slim possibility of it happening. And more than anything, Cygnus wanted that.
So, she was raised and trained like an heir— Composure, arrogance, the knowledge that she was going to have all of this growing up... She was their golden child, and with Andromeda and Narcissa being born after her, there was no worries about her needing to be married with two other stunning girls.
Bellatrix had always had a fascination with pain, both physical and mental. Her own and other's. She fed off of it, she enjoyed it, she wanted to cause it. Pain was a natural part of her life, especially as a Black. Her father guaranteed that. She was meant to be trained into an heir after all, he needed to be strict.
She was the spitting image of her father, there were always whispers of how great she would've been if she had been born a boy.
But then Sirius was born. They had a male heir. And suddenly, after being everything, Bellatrix was nothing.
It's hard to go from having the world in the palm of your hands, to becoming just one more girl to be married off. Bellatrix wasn't the type to take that lying down. She would have the power she was promised, one way or another.
Her entitlement became more than that. It became a need to place herself on top of everyone else, so no one could ever doubt that she was better. She would be needed, she would be feared.
Bellatrix was never a quiet child, but she became louder. Her presence was known long before she entered a room, and when she was in one you would not forget it. Brash, enticing— cackles heard across the room. The type that makes you stare because of her unpredictability. The type that makes you stare for your own safety.
She let go of reason because reason never served her. If anyone cared about reason, she would still be heir.
How she became made everyone wonder if Druella had been right, all those years ago.
That was Bellatrix Black.
In a family full of control and reservation, she was the complete opposite. She was no different from them, really, but she was open with her inhibitions. With her thoughts. With her actions. The secrecy wasn't for her.
Random thoughts and headcanons below:
She's sapphic, and she honestly does not care, her sexuality wasn't dependent on her success in the family like her sister's, anything that she does that's out of the norm is written off as "Bellatrix behavior" and left at that, while not actually addressing the actual thing at all (it's left unspoken by her family)
She's not unemotional at all, in fact she's probably one of the most expressive people in that family besides Sirius or Andy
She loves her sisters more than anyone, they're the most important family to her (even after Andromeda leaves and "betrays" them) (if anything I think that made Bellatrix feel the first real hurt she'd felt since Sirius was born)
She was also absolutely pissed when Sirius ran away. Like she had ALL THAT taken from her, just for the man to run away like?? Kill yourself Sirius ← her words not mine
She dresses the most untraditional of them all, she's very romantic goth/Gothic lolita with her fashion influences
Bellatrix has a strange (from her point of view because it's all she's known) relationship with her father, sometimes she won't listen to him, and doesn't care about the consequences, but other times he's the only one who can control her and reign her in (not even her sisters can, not like her father can), and he's conditioned her to be that way. He's made it so that the only voice she'll listen to is his, but sometimes she's so lost in her own head that she doesn't (If you know Arcane, I'd think them similar to Jinx and Silco)
She's very well educated on the human psyche, cause as said before she's got a fascination with pain and that led to her learning up on how pain impacts the human brain and their reactions and all that and just sort of deep dived into the who psychology thing
She does indeed read a lot, mainly nonfiction
She can speak English, French, and Italian
Not beating the allegations, she does indeed love snakes, those are her babies (she loves cats too but is allergic, much to her dismay)
Is it a hot take to say she's a masochist and a sadist? And not just a sadist? Because her obsession with pain spreads to herself as well, but she's just around it so much she's kinda become numb to it herself, but any pain is welcome to her (she gets a little hysterically happy when she's in pain)
She's injured everyone in her family at least once, sometimes accidentally, sometimes on purpose, she'll sometimes ask (only) her sisters for permission before she does something to them
It was hard for Bellatrix to like Narcissa at first because she reminded Bellatrix so much of their mother, and Bellatrix did not like their mother (but she did begrudgingly love her, only feeling the slightest bit of guilt for being the reason her mother lost herself, but also resentful that Druella seemed to become more present for her sisters than her)
Bellatrix was actually quite likeable at Hogwarts, as much as she was disliked— that "She's kinda fucking insane but also it's kinda fun" sort of vibe, she was liked, but she wasn't liked
She's killed (and tortured) multiple animals before, she liked examining their reactions
Is it needed to say she likes horror movies? She's a horror movie enthusiast actually, loves commenting on how realistic the gore is too if there is any
If she went to college, I think she 1. would've majored in psychology or behavioral science and 2. she would've gotten a doctorate
I think she's hyper empathetic, she feels everyone's emotions very strongly, and that plays into a bunch of other things I've said before
Her favorite cousin is Pandora, BUT she loves annoying Regulus the most, he's so easy for her to piss off
this turned into an insanely long yap, anyways I love Bellatrix 🫶
