Look, I made it like a full three months before having to make another one of these posts! Okay, okay I know I’m terrible. For those of you that don’t follow me on my multimuse, basically what happened is that I fell into a hole that became a hypofixation and my attention has been entirely on that for the last two or so weeks. That said, doesn’t mean I’m abandoning this blog. I’m currently in the middle of a huge transition in my life, and there was something about Shaw that just wasn’t sticking, but unfortunately right now I don’t have the time/energy to dig through and figure out what it is. 

SO, here’s the plan:

I am moving/starting school within the next month, which means until that happens, I’m going to be all over the place. I have to find a place to live, move to said place to live, settle in with enough time that I don’t have a panic attack about completely rehauling my life, and then actually start with the hard part that is school/figure out what my schedule is going to be once I’m in classes full time. Ideally, I’d like to try and find some time to do drafts and memes here but I really cannot guarantee it. Realistically, what I’m thinking is that I’m gonna put this blog on a semi-hiatus until I’ve done everything I need to do in the next month and I’m more settled. Essentially this means I’m gonna try and work on drafts/memes at my leisure without any real promise of things getting done. I know. Shit. I’m sorry.

That said, I’m gonna be more active on my multimuse blog for now because it seems that’s where my drive is. I’ve got a couple POI characters there too/if anyone is into that Power Rangers reboot, literally that’s where all my focus has been. Or like 20 other muses I’ve got kicking around. 

tl;dr semi-hiatus on this blog until I can figure my life out. it’ll be easier to catch me on my multi. life is hard. i love all of you.

Shaw had met plenty of his types during the course of her life, though very few actually carried themselves with that sort of ease. The kind of ease that she knew made someone dangerous. She kept her distance, confident that she was faster than him, but she wasn’t looking for a concussion today. The number was supposed to be something easy and this definitely didn’t qualify. “Then we’re on the same page. You stay out of my way, and I’ll stay out of yours.” The gun in her pocket felt heavy but it never felt right to draw a weapon on an unarmed assailant. “Now let me collect my investment banker and I’ll be on my way. We can both be gone by the time security shows up.”

Shaw bristled at the thought of running away from anything. She was no coward. Except for when it came to the way that Root seemed to worm past every defense she had ever put up. “You’ve never needed anyone in your life.” A long pause sat between them. “I won’t run.”

Shaw snorted as she peered through her scope, scanning through the windows of the building Jessica was in. She might not quite understand the world of vigilante superheroes just yet ( not that she or Jess would call either of them heroes ), but she was pretty sure that a bullet to the head would stop almost anyone they came across. Except for Luke, but she would never shoot Luke. “I haven’t lived in safe since I left medical school,” she muttered under her breath. "Besides, I’m across the street in a sniper’s nest. Pretty sure that all the idiots are down there with you and your punchy hands. Now shut up and tell me who we’re up against and where their squishy bits are. If we hurry up and finish this, we can get a drink before last call.”

Shaw sucked in a ragged breath as she looked down at the recruit beneath her. His face looked like a bloody mess, and her knuckles were spattered with red. Standing up, she turned back and faced Grayson, caring little about the unconscious soldier at her feet. After all, he’d grabbed her without permission, and Shaw had no problem showing arrogant pricks like him what happened when they touched a woman without getting their express consent. She fixed Grayson with a bored look, wondering if he would toss a reprimand or another snide remark her way. “Don’t ever tell me what to do, bigfoot.”

Shaw bristled at the words, curt as they were over the phone. Her relationship with Control had deteriorated over the last several years, for obvious reasons, but hearing the woman order her around like Shaw was still one of her toy soldiers made an anger burn deep within her. “In case you forgot, ma’am, I don’t work for you anymore.” A part of her wanted to hang up on the call, much like a petulant child but the team did need whatever it was that Control knew. “Just tell me what I need to know and we can stop pretending we like each other.”

I think a lot about the scene in Beta where John and Shaw and Harold are discussing how Harold is gonna hand himself over to Decima in exchange for Grace, and he tells them that “if they harm Grace in any way, kill them all.” The look on Shaw’s face gets me every time, because like the rest of us, we’ve always seen Harold as taking the moral high ground, about never condoning violence, even when it might seem necessary. Hell, the situation they’re in is because Harold was uncomfortable with killing the senator. But the second Grace is threatened, all bets are off. It’s one of the most human, visceral reactions we see from Harold in the entire show.

And then I think about later, at the end of S5 when all is said and done, and Shaw has tracked down Blackwell and she’s debating killing him, and I like to headcanon that she thinks back to this moment with Harold. When one of the noblest and well-meaning men she’s ever met becomes savage as hell when the life of his most important person is threatened, and she hopes that he’d understand why she does what she does. In some ways, maybe killing Blackwell would have been disrespectful to his memory, but in many ways, Shaw thinks he would get it too, given how he reacted with Grace.

Wendy didn’t always venture into the city. There was something about this particular type of hustle and bustle that rubbed her the wrong way. It also wasn’t exactly conducive to her feline adventures; she hated being chased by the strays.

But she’d found herself in a diner with exactly four other people…and that included the waitress and the cook. She ordered pie and a glass of milk and sat quietly side-eying the only other patron – who was somehow eating enough to feed several armies.

She turned, getting a proper look at the woman and assessing all of the information her senses were perceiving before finally shifting down two seats to be next to the small woman. Wendy sensed the slight shift in the patron’s energy as she got closer, but she didn’t back away.

“If I told you that you have a very interesting aura, would you think I was crazy?”

Shaw liked seedy diners because everyone seemed to be under a similar impression that talking should be kept to a minimum and it meant they would leave her alone. They kept the coffee coming and the conversation down. Of course, she’d find the single diner in New York City that had the crazies flocking to it. She had been halfway through her stack of pancakes when she felt someone approach her. 

She didn’t turn to face the newcomer, hoping that the blatant ignoring would be enough to chase them away, but apparently that wasn’t the case. Then she started to blather on about auras, and for once she found that she would actually prefer listening to Root and Finch technobabble for an hour than to try and engage with this kind of talk. 

“I don’t know whether this is the world’s lamest pick up line or what, but I’m just trying to eat my food. Go bother someone else.” With that, Shaw shoved another very large mouthful of pancakes into her mouth, a clear indication that she was done talking.
