TWST Short Story written by Nicole

(Nicole is my best friend who I swear is on almost no social medias I’m on😭)!

“Azul, I believe you are what the land dwellers call ‘whipped’,” Jade musingly informed his boss, who was anxiously hovering around his phone.

Azul broke off his intense gaze to glare fiercely at him. “I am not whipped. Just concerned about Echo. I invited her over to sample the winter menu five minutes ago, but she hasn’t responded yet.”

Jade stared back at him, unblinking. “You are not helping your case.”

The phone rang, and Azul eagerly snatched the phone from the table. A knowing glance from the eel mer froze him in place. His heterochromatic eyes practically dared him to answer on the first ring and prove him right.

Azul resisted the first easily, but the second and third rings caused his chest to tighten uncomfortably. Upon hearing the fourth ring and imagining Echo’s face pinching in confusion at the abandonment, his resistance shattered completely. He accepted the call breathlessly, answering with a suave, “Honey bunny, how are you doing today?”

He firmly ignored Jade tittering and mouthing the word “whipped” in his direction, instead focusing on Echo’s sweet voice filtering through the phone.
