James raised his eyebrows; surprised with her choice. “Don’t tell me I’m peer pressuring you.” He joked. Opening the pack, James wondered if maybe he shouldn’t give her a cigarette. He didn’t want to be at fault for someone’s addiction. Especially, a girl who looked like she viewed life through rose colored glasses. “Here.” He handed her one, despite his thoughts. “If someone comes and busts us, you didn’t get the idea from me. I’m not paying two fines.”
Aliyah shrugged once more, a wicked smile on her lips. “Maybe you are,” she giggled. She could imagine her parents at home, what they’d be thinking if they knew what she was doing, but since they already disapprove of her anyway, it didn’t make too much difference to her. "Thanks,” she replied as she took the cigarette from him. She remembered the last time she smoked one of these, back when she was still in college and definitely after meeting Dario. “It’s okay, my lips are sealed,” she agreed, using her lighter to ignite the end. As she sucked in the air, it felt heavy in her lungs, the same feeling she felt when running away from LA. For a second she remembered, but was interupted by herself coughing.
“hey, i didn’t invite you into the conversation – YOU chose to pipe up, princess.” he commented dryly, eyes raking over her when she placed the flask in her hand. “thanks for the booze, but i’ll take a PASS on the analyzing.”
“because you’re provoking people to give opinions on a potentially dangerous idea. what if a kid got confused and thought that because it came from a vending machine that it was okay?” the blonde replied, almost wanting to take her flask back and leave.
“ the bus we take depends on where you’re trying to get to, ” that’s when the blond took his own pause, brows furrowing together for a short moment. “ unless you were wanting to tag along with me ? ”
" usually i'd go home but who would want to waste such a beautiful night?" the blonde mused with a giggle. she was good at flirting when she wanted to be, batting her eyelashes at dante with a smile. "i mean, i have to give you that kiss sometime, right?"
“actually, it was simple seventh grade science.”
“but who actually remembers shit from seventh grade?”
dante was just going to go see his mother in the dark & damp place where the two of them lived, but it wasn’t like he could just tell the blonde all that. “ well if you really must know— i was going to go break into one of my dad’s fancy houses & hang out. ”
“that sounds like a lot more fun than anything i had planned tonight,” she shrugged, flicking her blonde tresses out of her eyes. “so, where are we catching the bus from?’
“if i wasn’t good at it, i wouldn’t be doing it. so, yeah, i’m good.” she nods. “it’s not the ball that’s strong, it’s the kinetic energy that’s strong.”
“that’s fair enough,” the blonde smiled. “well then, you learn something new everyday.”
“ i really wasn’t expecting that at all, ” dante said with a light smile on his lips as he cocked hi head to the side. “ where is it you’re wanting to go exactly ? – & do you mind taking the bus ? my motorcycle is in the shop. ”
“what can i say, i’m full of surprises.” she mused, her smile not fading. “I’m heading to lo-” she started to say, but for some weird reason, she didn’t want to head back to her parents and their disapproving looks. “the bus is fine, where are you heading?”
James rolled his eyes at her words. He hated games already and being in a (shitty) mood didn’t exactly raise his tolerance levels. All he wanted to do is smoke. “Nothing much.” James said while leaning on the bar. “Most I could do for you is let you bum a smoke. You don’t look like the lung cancer type, though.”
“I don’t look like a lot of types but maybe I am,” she shrugged again, even though she knew that the man was right. Aliyah had smoked once or twice but she’d been playing sports and her lungs needed to be strong as possible. After leaving that life behind, Aliyah was down for anything. “I’ll take one from you,” she replied, passing over the lighter.
“other people, dude.” she sighed, an eyebrows raising. “mine are a bit more noticeable than strange bruises from a weak ball.”
“that’s pretty cool, you any good? it must be a good skill to have for nerve, after all.” she paused. “that’s true, although the ball can be pretty strong sometimes. dislocated plenty of fingers.”
“ hm, so far i’m liking ya - so with that said can i get a kiss to lead you back to safety or is that a hard no ? ”
“i get that a lot,” aliyah said with a flirtatious smile. she didn’t know how she got herself into these situations but she wasn’t about to question her decisions right now. “sure, i can do that.”
“i do.” he replied, showing some of the examples of his work on his arm. “this is just the side i do. i mean i have more on my other arm from the other guys that work there and georgie. but this is some of what i do.” hearing her question, jackson responded with a nod of the head. “yeah i can totally fix something up for you. it’s going to cost you some though, depending on what it is and where it’s at. mind if i have a look?”
looking down at the artwork on jackson’s arm, aliyah couldn’t help but admire his tattoos. “they’re so beautiful,” the girl mused dreamily. “you actually did that on yourself?” with a nod, the girl pulled up the edge of her shirt to reveal her ex’s name on her hip. “it’s my ex’s name, dario. i just feel so embarrassed about it.”
“ well SHIT. that was easier than i expected. but hey, what do you like to do ? i don’t wanna suggest somethin’ obscure. ”
“i’ve heard some pretty obscure requests so anything you say won’t really surprise me, love. as for things i like, i like everything.”
“eh, they’re going to get it anyway, whether it’s in a vending machine or they steal it out of their parents’ liquor cabinets. i’m not DESPERATE, this is a strip mall for chrissakes. if i was desperate, i’d go to a real bar. i’m jussayin’… you want to make shopping fucking tolerable? alcohol vending machines. that’s the trick.” despite his words, he held his hands out for the flask. who was he to turn down free alcohol?
“you do have a point there,” aliyah sighed, remembering the many times she and her friends would break into the nazari liquor cabinet. “you’re acting kinda desperate, mentioning your get-rich-quick schemes in the middle of new york city as if everyone wants to hear it. if you need to tolerate the mall then that is your problem and not mine.” she placed the flask in his hands, losing interest.
