I feel like I’m in the wrong world. ‘Cause I don’t belong in a world where we don’t end up together.
favorite sterek scenes: -> 1.12 stiles + being protective over derek
WHY HASN’T ANYONE TALKED ABOUT THIS?! SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE A FIC ABOUT THIS!!!! @thepsychicclam @sterekficlets @pale-silver-comb @ficsforsterek @sterekwriters @colethewolf @bleep0bleep
But wait wait I am SO bitter that this isn’t one of The Main Scenes Of Sterek Culture, like everyone gushes about the pool scene, the elevator scene, the Miguel scenes and that’s fine, obviously, there’s nothing wrong with that, but no one ever talks about THIS. SCENE. and this is just… such an important one? Because this says so much about Stiles as a person and how he is in the Sterek relationship
You have this 16-year-old kid, just barely having gotten inducted into the world of the supernatural, he’s staring at two things here:
1. A hunter, a dangerous person who could and WOULD hurt Stiles if he was so inclined, who has a history of hurting innocent people for virtually no reason
But also
2. Another human being, Chris has no reason to kill Stiles because Stiles is human, and if Stiles were to back down and submit to what Chris was asking- or even just, you know, not mouth off- there’s a pretty fair chance Chris would just leave him alone, or atleast not kill him
And Stiles has not ONLY made his loyalties clear- he sides with the wolves, he’s always sided with the wolves, and he generally has an even harder time working with hunters than some of the other non-born-wolf people on this show do- but he’s also gone above and beyond
This isn’t just Stiles being his usual smart-mouthed self, he’s taking Derek’s side, no matter what his relationship with Derek is right now, no matter what this other HUMAN is telling him, he’s taking Derek’s side, instead of using one of the many things that hunters have done to SCOTT as an example, he takes the ultimate crime they committed against DEREK as an example and he takes it to heart, he’s not just getting in a jab at Chris here, he’s making it very clear that his loyalties lie not only with Scott, but with Derek and wolves in general
This is Stiles saying “Scott is not a special case, this is not me loving my best freind and trying to look past his species, this is me being a full-on supporter of werewolves and telling you that none of your intimidation tactics are going to change my mind” and that’s amazing
This is one of my favorite things and one of the scenes that really pushes, in my opinion, the Stiles Is Part Of The Hale Pack semi-canon, because Stiles stood with Derek and stood with WOLVES in a way that even Scott wavers on at times (“Maybe they deserved it” *shudder*)
This is the perfect example of why I will ALWAYS headcanon Stiles as being an intensely active wolf-protector, as someone who will always be more inclined to sympathize with wolves than hunters, as someone who would have lived and breathed and died for the Hale pack totally regardless of his individual relationships with any of them
And this is one of the best things about Sterek that kind of only gets talked about in fic rather than meta: That Stiles sees Derek as a person when no one else wants to
Stiles doesn’t get dragged into the werewolf stuff by force like Scott does, he jumps in willingly and makes peace VERY early on with accepting and SUPPORTING werewolves as people instead of trying to blame them, other them, or worst of all, bully, harm, or hunt them (wow the allegories are strong with this one)
I just… I just want more of this scene and what means about Stiles as a person- and what it means for his relationship with Derek, the Hale pack, and werewolves in general- in the fandom ok?
As a non-Teen Wolf watching Sterek shipper I feel kind of let down this is the first time I’m seeing this.
Also, I love how Stiles one ups Chris. You can see in the last gif the moment he realizes that Stiles might actually be right, because he knows Kate well enough to consider it more than a possibility, but a probability.
I forgot that Derek kicks Isaac out by yelling at him and throwing things at him like Mr. Lahey did. It pisses me off so much because there’s better ways to make him understand rather than triggering him you know?
well at least it wasn’t treated as a funny scene like the one with scott..smh
Plus, I think it’s important to recognise that Derek knew he was doing a shitty thing. He was aware that what he was doing would drive Isaac from him forever. Which, you know, was the point. He did an incredibly shitty thing because he wanted Isaac to be far from him before the alpha pack tried to use him against Derek and probably kill him.
(the fact that the show pretended it had never happened, is neither here nor there. fucking jeff davis. that should have had some resolution because it was a big fucking deal)
Isaac knew it was a terrible thing. Derek knew it was a terrible thing. Cora knew it was a terrible thing. The show knew it was a terrible thing. No-one ever tried to pretend it was anything other than terrible.
[I’d also add that trying to save Isaac’s life isn’t a good reason for what he did. Though I get why he did it. Derek’s a really damaged individual who often tries to do the right thing, but he’s just not quite healed enough to make good decisions while trying to do those right things]
With Scott, though. It was like the writers thought a ‘joke’ exists within a vacuum and that actions a character does within said ‘joke’ aren’t part of him, when that’s not true.
He threw Isaac into a wall - twice - because he was having a tantrum about Isaac liking his ex-girlfriend. And at that point Isaac and Allison weren’t even going out. He merely liked her.
Melissa treated it like it was just boys being boys; Scott never even seemed to give it a seconds thought; Isaac is so used to being hurt by people he loves that it never seems to occur to him to be pissed about it and demand an apology.
And, don’t forget that a majority of fandom does find it funny. They find Isaac being thrown into a wall by the supposed ‘hero’ of the show funny because that’s what the show wanted them to think.
I think about this scene a lot. Especially this:
See that? That’s the look of guilt. That’s the face of someone who instantly realized that he fucked up big time. That little glance at the ground and the lump-swallowing (thank god for Hoechlin, really). Derek knew just how much it would hurt Isaac but he chose to do it anyway, under the impression that driving him away would keep him safe. And he instantly felt guilty.
But the deed was done, glass was shattered, and feelings were hurt. We all know it was for a good cause, which explains why he did it, but doesn’t excuse or justify his action in any way.
Bonus: And don’t you think that Derek got away with it. Because Isaac did get a chance to hurt him right back. Another example of how Derek is always held accounted for his mistakes but Mr. True Alpha isn’t.
Seriously, SO MUCH of Derek just comes down to Hoechlin’s acting choices. He could’ve blue-steel’d it up here, gone for a macho, determinedly doing the right thing vibe, but he played it like this, scared and regretful and pretending to be macho and determined. It’s the kind of top class “I can do it with a look” Acting that Martin Freeman gets praised to the skies for doing, but because Tyler is on an mtv show about werewolves that treats his character as eye candy, he doesn’t get recognized for the subtlety and grace with which he plays the character.
Derek Hale as written, played by a different actor, would not have a widespread and devoted fanbase. My fourth grader that I’d talk Teen Wolf with sure didn’t care about the state of his shirts when he declared Derek was his favorite character. Hoechlin is a lot more than his good looks, and moments like this prove it.
I will never be over my love for Derek Hale or Tyler Hoechlin.
Everything about this post. The fact that those two scenes were played so differently is such a perfect example of these characters’ treatment throughout the show. Derek does something wrong and he is immediately called out on it, by the framing of the scene and by the other characters. And because of Hoechlin’s brilliant acting choices, we know that Derek calls himself out on it as well.
In contrast, Scott’s scene is a) done for an incredibly petty reason b) played for laughs, and c) not addressed by anyone afterward. But because it’s not addressed in canon, Derek is often seen as the “bad guy with temper issues” while Scott comes off as being, well, infallible. Scott has a lot of good qualities but he’s definitely not perfect, and it weakens what his character could be and the growth he could have by not calling him out the way every other character is called out, when they do something wrong.
#Chris couldn’t help his sister but he made sure to do right by Allison #brb gotta glue the pieces of my heart back together

#Derek likes to watch Stiles walk away because he’s the only one that ever comes back (X)

I’m a sucker for ships where Person A is damaged and Person B is their salvation, and when you look closer, you find that Person B is damaged, as well, just in a less obvious/volatile way, and Person A is their salvation right back.
