Why Dismas tops and Murrit bottoms and this is the best and most comfortable option for both of them: A manisexto by Teal M. Alternian. (TL;DR at the bottom.)

Part one; why Dismas is a top (and probably a dom).

Dismas is someone who, by his nature, doesn’t like feeling submissive or out of control of the situation. Now obviously topping or bottoming doesn’t inherently mean having more or less control in a situation, of course, since both parties have to be actively consenting and wanting to participate throughout the entire experience. But some people may interpret it that way (especially if certain kinks or dynamics are involved), and Dismas comes off as one of those people, largely due to his general mindset. Bottoming just wouldn’t be comfortable for him, it would feel too much like a situation with a lack of control to him.

Topping, on the other hand, would feel like a situation of having real control over what’s going on, something Dismas very much wants in life, which would make him feel more relaxed and comfortable. Plus while topping or bottoming have nothing to do with masculinity or lack thereof, topping is often associated by society with being more masculine (as pointless as that is), and doing something that would make him be perceived as more of a man would probably just make him feel good in general.

Part 2: Why Murrit is a bottom (and probably a sub).

Murrit is also someone who wants to have control in life. He, on the other hand, largely has it (or at least the illusion of it), and is near constantly attempting to maintain that control. He rarely truly relaxes, always watching his video feed or working to fulfill his end of things or planning out what she’s going to do next. Playing games with Laivan is probably one of the few ways they ever wind down usually. Topping would likely just add more self-created stress and pressure to be in control of the situation, which just wouldn’t be good for him, let alone enjoyable.

Bottoming would give him a chance to actually let his guard down and be less on edge for once. To just relax and enjoy the experience, while still having just as much input on what is and isn’t okay in the situation at any given time as his partner does. For once, she doesn’t have to be in control of the situation. He can just go along for the ride as long as they’re both mutually comfortable with the situation. To just have some consensual fun, maybe get handcuffed to the bedframe a little bit. To overall just actually relax for once without feeling out of control of things in her life or anxious.

TL;DR Dismas is a top and Murrit is a bottom and this is because it’s what makes them both feel comfortable and good while having sex.
