So my mom's friend of 35 years, Pat, probably one of the kindest people I've ever known, almost succumbed to depression via gun.

How she survived is beyond me.

But she lost an eye and has a very long road to recovery ahead of her, so my sister set up a fundraiser for her. We don't talk about the big S word there, because she only just admitted it to us. We thought she'd maybe gotten attacked. Finding out it was her that did it was devastating. We're considering trying to save up as a family to go visit her.

In Florida. I'm going to change my gender marker on my ID just to do it. Thank God Nevada doesn't care about that and you can change it around as many times as you want or need!

The fundraiser is tied to a Cashapp card that only my mom and Pat have access to. My mom, because she navigates the Internet far better than Pat does, and can use the money to order things for her directly. Pat, because duh.

She needs a lot of stuff. Her fake eye that Medicaid covered isn't great. Her rehabilitation stay may get cut short. She can barely swallow food or talk.

If you can help I would really appreciate it. Pat is one of the most loving people I know and the fact that she felt alone enough to even go this route has made me cry like. A lot? But if you can't help, please please please share. Please.

"The song is performed by the Kabin Crew, named after the studio where McCarthy is the creative director and runs weekly workshops which aim to create youth empowerment through music. Ok so I’ve been playing for 18 years and i’m a string teacher. Can i just say how IMPORTANT it is for young kids to see a BLACK, MALE-PRESENTING PERSON playing, nae, SHREDDING on a violin? I’ve know maybe 5 black people who played stringed instruments throughout my schooling and teaching (predumably because i’m an upper middle class white woman). In districts where the population is predominantly black, funding is always low, so the instruments are crappy. Kids quit, or the program is dismantled. I’ve seen very few professional string players who are black.

Obviously there are black string players. We just don’t see them because they “don’t look like” string players.

This person is the real deal. They were clearly classically trained, and seems to have some fiddle training as well. How cool is that?

Every time someone who can help chooses to remain silent instead of participating, the silence grows louder, hope fades, and someone else is left to face the consequences alone. Not everyone who watches is helpless, but silence is a choice. If you cannot help, then speak out. Humanity is measured by what we do when others are suffering, not just by what we say.
