my hot take is anyone who wants a showing where orpheus doesn't turn around or blames him for turning around or is like "why didn't he just do [x]" or "he had one job!" doesn't get it
he had to turn around. you can bargain with death all you want but it doesn't change the outcome no matter how much you hope it does. he was never going to succeed but he came so close to achieving the impossible ANYWAY because he loved her enough to even attempt it.
(also the entire point is he couldn't feel or hear her!!! that's why with doubt comes in when he sings his song NO ONE ECHOES IT like they have been the entire musical!!! because he's cut off from every sense he has!! the path out of hell was as long as it would take for doubt to come in and make him to turn around because he loves her too much to risk leaving her behind, but in doing so loses her forever!!! <- LIKE WHAT HADES IS DOING WITH PERSEPHONE BY COMING TO TAKE HER BACK TOO EARLY like it's the same thing!!! THAT'S WHY HADES CHOSE IT because he knew they were the same)
