The Bonding
Allison stood alone in the ceremony cabin. A modest white cotton dress fell flowing around her body to the floor. She had been with the group for some time, and now with Crispin’s blessing she would finally be bonded to a man of his choosing. Small butterflies flitted around inside her stomach. She had seen Narek around, but had never really spoken to, or spent much time with him. However, the butterflies weren’t really there because she was nervous, but more so because she was excited to finally be trusted enough by Crispin to do her part in saving them all. A knock on the door caused to take a deep breath, smooth her hands down her dress, and turn around. Two women opened the door to take her outside for The Bonding. Another deep breath, and she pulled the thin veil over her face and followed them outside. With a wide smile, she looked around as they walked forward. Almost everyone was there, including Cohen, but she didn’t linger her gaze with his for too long. Instead she shifted it to the front of the group, towards her intended and their fearless leader. Once they reached them, Allison stood completely still, knowing better than to make the first move.

When the murmurings of Allison being bonded came up Narek took a feigned interest. If he was going to be coupled off and forced into coitus he just assumes have it be to someone who has some pleasing features. Besides the blonde was highly prized and sought after including by Cohen who happened to be their nefarious leader’s son. So when it was announced he would be coupled with the petite blonde he took a small pleasure that Cohen and all the other men would be extremely disappointed. The decision only further solidifying that he was moving up the ranks within the community.
Now he stood in the button down shirt and pair of gray slacks: neither articles are his own. If the world hadn’t almost come to an abrupt halt he’d never willingly marry anyone; however, his status in the group was dependent on it. So he would make do. When the door opened Allison walked in and he pushed a smile; knowing that it would be an acceptable gesture for a man in his position. He consciously held it as she made her way over to his side, and went as far as to lean in over her shoulder to drop a short greeting. “Hello,” before righting himself. Noticing for the first time how comparatively different their height was from one another the smile slipped. She was small. Tucking his hands in front of himself he waited until Crispin made an appearance before any more interaction.

It was a genius idea anyone would have to admit. The women would be kept in line and his men made happy by the beautiful gift bestowed on them. Narek was a different case all together but Crispin wanted to make damn sure he kept the man by his side. Considering himself a good read of people and he had admit Narek was one he couldn’t quite put a finger on. The man was loyal and seemingly agreed; following the rules, but Crispin wasn’t sure he actually believed. Finishing up the vows for the couple Crispin was struck by how perfect Allison was for the man. If there was anything he would to know Allison would tell him, he had no doubt of that. Sure it was sending the lamb to the slaughter but if he was truthful that didn’t bother him. Turning in his chair he looked out the window as people scrambled to ready everything for the impending bonding. Crispin stood and straightened his clothes. Despite the world ending one would never know that looking at the impeccably dressed and clean man.
Crispin was proud of his presentation, proud of the loyalty he obtained but proudest of the power of life and death in his hands. There was only two who knew of his ultimate plans for the day, and only three counting himself that knew how he truly was. Yes it was a beautiful day to bond these two but he had something else up his sleeve. Opening the door he placed the perfect smile on his face, greeted followers along the way and finally arrived to where Narek was. His smile grew as Allison stepped out. He would miss her being a part of his home but this was for the best. “She looks beautiful doesn’t she?” He asked quietly to Narek. “The perfect woman to bond too.”

"Hi," Allison replied with a small nervous breath, and looked up to Narek with a smile through her thin veil. Then her eyes went back to Crispin, and her face fell into a more serious setting. What they were doing here was important. It solidified the reason the group was together, and gave the others a goal to accomplish. If they believed and were well behaved, they too could be bonded, and given the gift of the greater purpose of repopulating. It was truly an honor, and Allison felt lucky to have purpose again in this crazy apocalypse world. As the ceremony went on, Allison stole glances up at Narek more than a few times. He was so serious, and not just on this occasion, but almost every time she'd ever seen him. For a split second she wondered if this really was good match; but she shook it off quickly knowing that she trusted Crispin and he wouldn't pair her with someone bad.
