Anyone know the source of the screenshot? My mother uses lobbus (she pronounces it "lubbis") as "paws", as in "get your lubbis out of the serving dish". I looked it up in a few translators and didn't get "rascal" or "urchin" as a translation of either Yiddish spelling, but did get "לאבע" as a translation for "paw" on a couple sites (though weirdly got "פאָז" as the translation for "paws").

Oops, misread the translation. It does indeed say לאַפּע not לאבע. My mother said she heard it from a relative; maybe she thought he was saying lubbis but was saying luppis.

Pretty common with heritage speakers/yinglish! Most translation services aren’t going to do a great job with Yiddish but verterbukh.org is generally pretty good at guessing what Yiddish work you’re trying to get to from an English transliteration

Kinda silly to say white nationalist antisemitism is a thing of the past when:

- The Unite the Right rally in 2017 was led by chants of "Jews will not replace us" because it was organized by neo-nazis on 4chan and 8chan. This rally resulted in a murder of a counter-protester. Little mentioned fact is they also physically harassed a Black church and a synagogue in the area before being chased off by antifascists.

- 2018 Tree of Life Synagoguge Shooting: A white nationalist animated by the Great Replacement conspiracy theory believed that because the Tree of Life Synagogue did charity work for refugees and asylees that they were part of an international Jewish plot to demographically replace white gentiles in America with immigrants that he had to commit a mass shooting against the synagogue.

- Tucker Carlson repeated for years the Great Replacement and Cultural Marxism conspiracies to explain various issues including transgender healthcare and immigration.

- Trump leading up to the 2024 election repeatedly blamed Jews for a potential loss, stating that "they voted to destroy America and Israel" by overwhelmingly voting Democrat. This is known as the dual loyalty myth, except he was modernizing it by uniquely claiming American Jews are ALSO disloyal to Israel by being disloyal to America.

- Nazi collaborators are being rehabilitated in Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Romania and these countries have active neo-nazi movements that even use nazi imagery such as Azov Batallion.

- Alternative for Deutschland's rising popularity in the polls, their consistent scandals with their officials promoting nazi sympathy or complaints that "we need to move on from the holocaust, Germany has been punished enough." AfD has also adopted the Great Replacement conspiracy..

- Dozens of racist mass shooters have released manifestos specifically praising Hitler or citing their belief in the Great Replacement or White Genocide or George Soros or Cultural Marxism Conspiracy theories.

- The popularity of propagandists over the past decade like Charlie Kirk who once said "Jewish money is ruining American culture" or Candice Owens who also subscribes to the Great Replacement conspiracy.

- Elon Musk's constant spreading of neo-nazi propaganda, jokes, and conspiracy theories such as the Great Replacement, Cultural Marxism and George Soros conspiracies that explicitly blame Jews as a foreign enemy race that is destroying western civilization through "woke" or progressivism. He has an audience of millions and is drawing on content organically produced within neo-nazi communities.

- The ubiquity of white nationalist memes and conspiracies over the past decade on the internet. Many trends go back to explicitly neo-nazi communities.

White nationalist antisemitism is a completely different phenomenon from the false accusation of antisemitism by zionists against Palestinians and their supporters and it isn't something from the past, it's still killing people today.

Antisemitism serves as a "glue" for white nationalists - every enemy group whether it's feminists, gays, transgender people, the disabled, migrants, Muslims, Black people, etc can be connected together in a grand narrative that's represented as one singular enemy behind the shadows directing world events to destroy capitalism and white supremacy. Those ideas haven't gone away, they are international, they are expressed by people who also support Israel because antisemites have always supported Israel, and its resulted in casulties.

But rising white nationalist antisemitism is a symptom of rising white nationalism in general. Antisemitic conspiracies become ideological justifications to repress every oppressed group and the working class and communists. Let's not let zionists distort and distract from our understanding of reality when it comes to white nationalist ideology because antisemitism has been a corner stone of these groups since before and after WWII.

Most of these far right dorks like Charlie Kirk were just copying the American Nazi Party's free speech and college tour grift they used to expand membership and donations in the 1950s and 60s.

Antisemitism wasnt "structural" in the Weimar Republic either and yet. Nor was it structural in many places before the institution of pogroms and forced mass exiles. Here's what antizionist marxist Abram Leon had to say about this contradiction before he was executed by the nazis:

Antisemitism forms the theoretical core of White nationalism. First, it allows us to identify the fuel that White nationalist ideology uses

The meteoric rise of White nationalism within national discourse over the course of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and freshman administration—through Trump’s barely coded speech at fascist-style rallies, his support from the internet-based “Alt Right,” and his placement of White nationalist popularizers in top positions—has produced a shock of revelation for people across a wide swath of the political spectrum. This shock, in turn, has been a source of frustration within communities of color and leftist circles, where White liberals are often accused of having kept their heads in the sand while more vulnerable populations sounded the alarm about the toll of economic crisis, mass incarceration, police violence, deportation, environmental devastation, and—despite and in reaction to the election of Barack Obama—the unending blare of everyday hate. This is an understandable reaction. It’s one I’ve often shared. But the fact that many of us have long recognized that the country we live in is not the one we are told exists doesn’t mean we always understand the one that does. Within social and economic justice movements committed to equality, we have not yet collectively come to terms with the centrality of antisemitism to White nationalist ideology, and until we do we will fail to understand this virulent form of racism rapidly growing in the U.S. today. To recognize that antisemitism is not a sideshow to racism within White nationalist thought is important for at least two reasons. First, it allows us to identify the fuel that White nationalist ideology uses to power its anti-Black racism, its contempt for other people of color, and its xenophobia—as well as the misogyny and other forms of hatred it holds dear. White nationalists in the United States perceive the country as having plunged into unending crisis since the social ruptures of the 1960s supposedly dispossessed White people of their very nation. The successes of the civil rights movement created a terrible problem for White supremacist ideology. White supremacism—inscribed de jure by the Jim Crow regime and upheld de facto outside the South—had been the law of the land, and a Black-led social movement had toppled the political regime that supported it. How could a race of inferiors have unseated this power structure through organizing alone? For that matter, how could feminists and LGBTQ people have upended traditional gender relations, leftists mounted a challenge to global capitalism, Muslims won billions of converts to Islam? How do you explain the boundary-crossing allure of hip hop? The election of a Black president? Some secret cabal, some mythological power, must be manipulating the social order behind the scenes. This diabolical evil must control television, banking, entertainment, education, and even Washington, D.C. It must be brainwashing White people, rendering them racially unconscious. What is this arch-nemesis of the White race, whose machinations have prevented the natural and inevitable imposition of white supremacy? It is, of course, the Jews. Jews function for today’s White nationalists as they often have for antisemites through the centuries: as the demons stirring an otherwise changing and heterogeneous pot of lesser evils. At the turn of the twentieth century, “The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion”—a forgery, first circulated by Czarist secret police in Russia in 1903, that purports to represent the minutes of a meeting of the international Jewish conspiracy—established the blueprint of antisemitic ideology in its modern form. It did this by recasting the shape-shifting, money-grubbing caricature of the Jew from a religious caricature to a racialized one. Upper-class Jews in Europe might have been assimilating and changing their names, but under the new regime of antisemitic thought, even a Jew who converted to Christianity would still be a Jew.
