Journey Blog #2
Building my portfolio has shown itself to be a lot harder than I thought. I am steadily trying but it seems to be a little bit more difficult to find the right emotions to show on my face. People don’t always think so but modeling can be a lot more of a challenge than it lets on. Modeling is just like acting some times. It’s not always standing in front of a camera and looking pretty. When modeling for certain things you have to make your body and face imitate and certain emotion. And it isn’t always easy bringing that emotion to the table. Especially when you are doing a long shoot. Shoots can last hours and depending on the climate of where you are at, it can be a tremendous amount of work on your body. For a Victoria’s Secret bathing suit photoshoot, it isn’t always warm weather. They shoot on the beach but it isn’t summer time. The pictures have to be ready for the summer, so therefore they have to shoot much earlier. The beach is not that fun in the colder seasons. But anyway, my point is that it can be a hard job, but to me it is completely worth it. You have to be willing to work really hard for the things that you want. Things that are worth having don’t always come easy for you. As for right now, I have to keep working hard at school and keep my back up plan steady. The dream continues to stay up front though.
Not all who wander are lost
Do you ever...
Do you ever have this time period where you are really happy and you are really positive about everything? And then all of sudden the certain people that know how to push your buttons seem to some how know that you are really happy and they say like one sentence that throws you completely off? And it’s always the people that you really care about, and it’s the people that you couldn’t bare to make unhappy. And you start to feel like there is nothing that you can do right and you are letting people down without even knowing it. It starts to seem like you are being put in these situations that you just can’t seem to figure out how to fix and you just have to hope that throughout the days it will work itself out. It sucks but I have found that these situations are not always meant to teach you a lesson, but are sometimes meant for another person; you are just playing a key role in teaching that person. A lot of things don’t make sense to me but you just have to have faith that there is a reason for everything. Every situation you go through was made specifically for you. There is no struggle that we can’t fight our way through. It will always be okay. It’s a bad day, not a bad life.
And so the portfolio builds.
FOR THOSE WHO STRUGGLE WITH ANXIETY… ITS OKAY.
It is perfectly okay for you to walk away from a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable and it is perfectly okay to take a break and have as much time as you need to recollect yourself and your thoughts. Taking care of yourself and your anxiety whenever needed is okay because you do not need any sort of validation from others when you are in a struggling state of panic because it is okay to not be okay. Nobody knows you better than yourself, and you’re the only one who knows your breaking points. So don’t let anybody boss you around and say “just get through it” Because there’s going to be arrogant people in this world who just don’t get it, who don’t get the hardships of anxiety and how it cripples people’s lives. Your illness deserves to be taken seriously and you have every right to do what’s best for you and your mental health. Anxiety is known as the silent illness, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer in silence. Just breathe and take a step back. You’ll be okay, because having anxiety is perfectly okay. This. Thank you for this.

Journey Blog #1
So anybody that reads this probably doesn’t know who I am, or really cares. But I figured this might be a fun thing to do since I am trying to get myself and my name out there. But my name is Allison and I am an aspiring model/actress. And NO, not just some Instagram/Tumblr/Twitter model that is just going for likes and reposts on social media. Although a lot of people have gotten their start that way, it doesn’t hurt but that is not my goal. If it helps to get some attention then great, but I am shooting for the bigger leagues. But anyway, I don’t come from much but I am trying to become something more than what I have come from. I come from a small town in Mississippi and I plan to move to California in the next three years, if not less. I began my journey when I was only 14 years old. I did a little commercial promoted program that gave anyone and everyone a chance to audition in front of recruiters to get a chance to audition AGAIN in front of agencies. I got the first call-back to go audition in New Orleans in front of the agencies. I was super young and me and my mom didn’t know anything about what we were doing but we were doing it quietly so that no one from home would know. We didn’t want anybody talking. So, we get there and, looking back, I was NOT dressed properly. They requested that we dress modestly and in a way that wasn’t distracting. So I wore a white Hollister shirt and some shorts with gray Toms. I could’ve tried a little harder, but I was only 14. My turn came around and I did the best catwalk that I could. I was terrified, all the agents had their eyes locked on me, judging every move I made. When I stepped down I immediately knew that I did not do the best that I could and that it was too late. My mom and I sat back down in the crowd and began that longest wait ever. They gave us numbers so that when the agencies made their call-backs they could just call out numbers. There were over 30 agencies there. And we waited through everyone of them and nobody called my number, except for one. Along with over 50 other people’s number. So at that point I didn’t feel special at all. Every other agency only called about 5 different numbers. So this guy was already off to a sketchy start. Well to make a long story short, we followed through and signed with him. He only ever got me one job and I had to pay over $300 for my comp cards. I couldn’t use my own photographer either. He has terrible reviews online and does not act like a professional agent. I eventually got out from under his contract and started acting on my own. Now I am 21 and trying to start my dream all over again. School and working got in the way of my ambitions but now I am well on my way. I eventually had to get back in touch with my old agent again, and, although he didn’t do anything then for me, he did give me some great advice. So I am taking what I can from it and running.
So down to the reason I am doing this. Basically it just seems fun and a good way to keep positive and up-to-date with what I am going to be doing. Tomorrow I am going with my good friend/photographer to work on my portfolio that I will be sending off to California to an agency another good friend of mine told me about. He has friends that are with them and are doing well. Who knows what will happen and if they will even use somebody from Mississippi. It will be an interesting experience. So if you are down to keep up with me then come along. If not...oh well.
I guess this is where I am about to start blogging about my life and my journey. Who knows what will happen from here. But here we go.
