I fell in love with you the way ink spills; suddenly, all at once, and with permanent consequence
Takeaways from the Gui Lian trailer: (a) snow and umbrellas (b) Jelly Lin is pretty (c) but Zhang Linghelen of Troy is prettier. (Seriously, how is this man this good looking?)
But joking aside, the trailer looked amazing! Haven't read the novel (which is sometimes a plus) but I am super into it.
I'd watch a whole show with Zhang Linghe and Jin Jing just teasing and dissing each other in that over-exaggerated-acting way XD

To the keeper of my thoughts,
Keeper,
If there is one c-drama I would recommend with my whole heart, it would be The Best Thing.
Truly—
the best thing I have watched in a long while.
No exaggeration.
It has quietly become my comfort drama, the kind I revisit whenever life feels too heavy, whenever I need something soft to return to.
And perhaps what makes it comforting is its slowness.
The pacing is gentle.
Unhurried.
Nothing too loud, nothing too dramatic—
just enough warmth to make you stay.
And honestly?
I think all of us deserve to experience the kind of love He Suye gives Shen Xifan.
The kind of love that feels patient.
Steady.
Safe.
The kind that makes you believe softness still exists.
And the female lead?
Oh, I adore her.
Her style.
Her face.
Her smile.
Everything about her is just—
chef’s kiss.
I do not think I have moved on from this drama.
Or perhaps—
I simply refuse to.
Maybe that is why I keep returning to it.
Because some stories become places.
And some characters quietly stay with you long after the ending.
Though if I am being honest—
I think this drama also made me yearn a little.
For a love like that.
For someone like He Suye.
Someone gentle.
Someone who stays.
So yes—
you should try watching it.
But fair warning:
If you want excitement, chaos, or nonstop drama—
this one may not be for you.
Its beauty lies in its quietness.
Okay, keeper.
Good night.
Until the next page,
Evangeline
Not Jin Jing matter-of-factly dropping some cheesy compliments, ahah XD She's the best))) Zhang Linghe didn't want to touch the electrifying pull-up machine, hehe))
My heart was broken and then mended quite a few times in the course of this show D: They are just babiessss in their early 20s, they shouldn't be dealing with all the hard stuff. But I've gotta applaud Lin Yingtao for her hopefulness and uncanny emotional intelligence for her age, and the ability to pry open the shell that boy has gotten himself into.
He's way too relatable, btw, I totally get his point as well - especially after years of living under pressure of being the perfect best and overachieving in everything he did... hitting 'rock bottom' must be scary AF, and it's only much later in life we learn that there's an endless amount of new beginnings. That's something that comes with age and a little bit more wisdom.
Also, they're still beyond adorable :3
I have to hand it to Yingtao’s parents, because i strongly believe that a lot of her emotional intelligence & empathy is a consequence of their parenting & how they raised her & how she has seen them treat others.
Even with Jiang Qiaoxi, if you notice, from the beginning — because they had a better idea of how things were at his home & the kind of environment & pressure he was growing up with — their attitude & behaviour towards him came from a place of kindness & consideration. Even when he acted in a way that others dismissed as him being not worth it, or when he stopped communicating with them, their advice to yingtao focused on her taking care of herself without accusing or blaming him, almost as if they have an idea why that happened (they probably did!) - so much empathy!
It makes sense then that yingtao also grew up to become such a thoughtful & empathetic person! She also knew him in a way others didn’t, so it makes sense why others simply dismissed him while she understood that something must be very wrong & would want to find him to make sure he was well & not hurt.
It also makes sense that she was willing to walk away in hong kong - she loved him, she remembered him, she even emphasised that her love is not conditional on his achievements & glory. It was up to him to choose her, choose them, & choose himself actually. Choose happiness for whoever he was in that moment & not keep her waiting for whatever imaginary perfect version of himself he believes is worthy. She wouldn’t let her love be taken for granted like that!
Maybe because the show is centred very much towards Yingtao & her relationships, or maybe people just aren’t capable of considering multiple perspectives - but i think a lot of people who hate on qiaoxi or don’t understand why he went AWOL don’t realise that finishing school & then leaving the country to study abroad was basically his one chance to get the fck away from his parents (*cough*mother*cough*) since before he even met yingtao & the gang - survive these years so he can get out of their control & live his own life.
The accident with his cousin — who was basically the only person who treated well & like his own person & understood his circumstances, was the only person he considered family — was probably like his sky was falling. Imagine the guilt he felt because they wouldn’t be struggling so much to pay his bills if his cousin hadn’t cancelled his health insurance to pay for his studies.
He’s also someone who’s always had such strong confidence about his intelligence & what he can achieve - having to do construction labour & other odd jobs just to pay the bills & even getting scammed - of course his sense of self worth took a hit
He’s barely 18, trying to hold up the sky not just for himself but for his cousin & his family too while feeling like he isn’t even worth remembering, forget worth loving — of course he couldn’t find the strength to even read her messages or respond to her!
It doesn’t take away the fact that it was hurtful & shitty but also it makes him a human who was trying to survive & made poor decisions, not a red flag or someone to be abandoned, as people react to him!
*breathes in* *breathes out*
As you can tell, i have very strong thoughts & feelings about yingtao & qiaoxi & how people have hated on either characters 🫡
The next person who makes the baby king cry, be it Daebi mama or her evil father, is gonna catch these hands.
PROTECT THE BABY KING AT ALL COSTS.
i do not relate to the byeon woo seok acting slander for perfect crown. i thought the subtle eye movement and barely there change in physical disposition were so well thought out and placed. would you rather he emote? he's playing a royal! it's mandatory to convey only the tiniest of emotions if not none.
This 👆🏼
Not only is he playing a royal, which means it would’ve been drilled into him from very young not to show any emotions or feelings, he is also surrounded by people who are actively waiting for him to make a mistake, for his downfall
Of course he isn’t gonna be showing any vulnerability to anyone — & as the show has progressed, we have seen how that has changed, the character showing more of his true feelings!
This is the same criticism i saw for zhang linghe! Is he the best most talented actor ever? No he’s not. BUT he isn’t a bad actor!
But you can’t compare a character he is playing that is supposed to be cold, aloof, someone who doesn’t reveal their thoughts & feelings easily with a character that is supposed to be loud, visibly & verbally reactive, heart on their sleeves type
If you compare Xie Zheng with Pei Wenxuan, or He Suye, these are completely different personalities & zlh has portrayed them differently
(sorry went off track a bit 🤏🏼)
When they're at the lantern festival and Changyu wipes Song Yan's name off the lanterns to save those other girls from making a huge mistake, that's a real girls girl!
And Zheng's like well this is embarrassing but I love her and hate Song Yan so I support her. Imma go over here, away from her doing that though
Note to self. In future have soup always ready so if things get awkward you can do this.
I tried to post this last night but it crashed and I lost the post. Oh well.
But a thing that is just Getting to me.
Is how in episode 6 you have I-an explaining how he isn't allowed to run, and I forget which episode the same is said to I-yun (2 or 3?).
Then in episode 8 have him running through the palace grounds, through the hospital, and up several flights of stairs for Huiju.
Then his conversation with Huiju later, "but if I'm the target I thank the heavens."
Because despite the fact he's the regent. Despite the fact he knows his brother wanted to abdicate the throne to him. Despite him being a better king than his brother (than his father), and wanting to protect his nephew just as his brother wanted to protect his son.
Deep down he still thinks he's expendable; the second son who means nothing and Huiju means everything (we knew this when with the car accident but it bears repeating).
Anyway I'm going to go climb the walls.
This is so damn cute!
Very important Zhang Linghe update
