Today, Tumblr’s owner, Verizon Media, announced that Automattic plans to acquire Tumblr. Automattic is the technology company behind products such as WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and Simplenote—products that help connect creators, businesses, and publishers to communities around the world.
We couldn’t be more excited to be joining a team that has a similar mission. Many of you know WordPress.com, Automattic’s flagship product. WordPress.com and Tumblr were both early pioneers among blogging platforms.
Automattic shares our vision to build passionate communities around shared interests and to democratize publishing so that anyone with a story can tell it, especially when they come from under-heard voices and marginalized communities.

Can't believe I missed this piece of news. I only realised it when Tumblr sent an email (to my vanilla Tumblr) talking bout the change in Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. I felt that it was a post worthy of sharing, with anyone else who's actually still on Tumblr.
It was expected that the business will be sold to someone else, but it being sold for a "nominal fee" just shows how badly the move back in December'18 was.
It crashed an entire community of NSFW bloggers, who actually had a safe space to post freely and be appreciated.
I don't think the move to Automattic will make any difference at the moment, unless they somehow allow the NSFW community to come back.
Well, anyway I think I'm past all the NSFW hype. But I still hope they will reconsider the ban on "adult contents". Eventually, I still have a little wish for that community to be back.
Back to where they belong.
