Down the line in the Bitty & Bonbon universe, like I’m talking 10 life cycles later, Bonbon does become aware of how tethered they are !!
Habit’s vessel (aka Evan) in my AU doesn’t age, but it does have a limit. Habit doesn’t die the traditional way, he looks normal, acts normal, then in the span of a month, the vessel just starts rotting.
After the first lifetime with bonbon, he lives in that body for another 50 or so years before he has to “reset.” He can possess others, but Evan remains the perfect host- and he’s the strongest in that vessel specifically.
Flash forward to the future after multiple cycles, bonbon’s soul has been bound to his for too long, and the memories start surfacing even without his direct influence. Which later leads to her being completely aware of who she’s been and who he is to her.
Sometimes she reincarnates before he’s begun the process of taking over the host, and that means she has to wait/find whoever Evan is in that timeline.

It’s a very intricate ritual, but there are ways to speed up Habit’s progression until he’s fully in control.
Normally, if Evan’s body dies or is harmed, Habit can’t use it. But if he is sacrificed with intention, Habit can immediately take over. Bonbon still isn’t a fan of violence or gore even after all the decades that have passed, but her love for Habit always wins.
She will be the one to lure Evan home. She is the one who puts something in his wine to knock him out- the person that deals with his nosy family or any partners and friends that have already been in his life.
Then when he wakes up, he’s tied with rope in her basement surrounded by symbols, and in the middle of a circle drawn in blood. She doesn’t acknowledge him the entire time and just talks to herself because she’s nervous about the doing steps in order.
Habit taught her about it a while ago because a couple of timelines ago, when she’d first become aware, she complained about him taking too long to come back. Now that she knows, when she “awakens” it constantly feels like she’s missing something until he joins her. So he gave her a play book on how to make it easier for them both.
She has to collect enough blood and organs to feed him when he fully possesses the vessel, paint the correct symbols on the floor and slit the host’s throat over the diagram. It’s crucial that she has the food ready because Habit comes out starved. If she doesn’t, he gets weaker for the first few weeks, and she loves him too much to let him go hungry.
Technically he could eat while he’s waiting by taking over randoms, but since he has her, he doesn’t mind keeping his appetite low.
She blindfolds Evan before straddling him and cutting open his jugular. And when his blood soaks into the symbols below, Habit has a direct tether to latch onto. It’s much faster this way because Evan’s soul isn’t occupying the body anymore, and Habit doesn’t have to slowly weaken his mental state over time.
It always takes a minute though and she gets super anxious. But Habit’s a dick and he’ll go out of his way to pretend that it didn’t work to fuck with her.
He’ll slip into the vessel, but stay limp. Not activating the complete possession until ten minutes past the expected deadline. Then, when she’s about to cry and blubbering over the corpse, a muted violet will sizzle along his veins. It glows faintly, zigzagging like lightning before the body jerks to life.
He’ll lunge up, snapping his teeth and ripping off the blindfold- “Got ya’.” He cackles every time because she’s somehow still nervous despite doing the ritual for decades.
Habit pampers her for a bit, kissing her hands and telling her she’s perfect. That he’s so thankful for all her hard work, appreciative of all the blood she’s spilt just for him.
However, the proof of carnage to the body clings to him- so she’ll fret over the wound she made, and he’ll have to tug her wrist up. Pressing it to his throat and letting her feel the healed tissue. “See? I’m fine, sweethearts. Stop fuckin’ pouting.” He’ll keep her sitting pretty on his lap while they’re sprawled on the cement floor, allowing her to dote on him as much as she needs.
When she’s satisfied and his hunger has grown too strong, he’ll feast. Gorging himself on the crates of limbs she’s gathered. This is the reason he tells her to prepare dinner for herself beforehand as it actually takes a decent while for him to get full.
She’ll go upstairs to grab her food and return to eat with him in the basement. They’re sitting cross legged on the ground, Bonbon with her plate of pasta and Habit chewing on a stray liver. She catches him up on work drama, any new shows she’s watched, and rambles about how she missed him. All the domestic stuff you’d expect. They shower together after and everything.
While their dynamic is somewhat the same, it does develop a slightly more macabre edge. Morticia and Gomez, but if Morticia was preppier and sensitive. Bonbon is used to his antics, and he woos her using darker tactics.
The ribs of an anaconda made into a flower, fragments melded together, with the bones dyed a pastel pink. He’ll have her throw darts at him to test her aim and dodge for fun. Habit’s throwing her off the ledge of their balcony to scare her, and catching her before she hits the ground with a grin.
The eons they’ve spent together has turned him into quite the romantic. Her loyalty, the sheer dedication it takes- who he’s made her into has him very proud.
In my original headcanons of him, he only views bonbon as a pet, but this is far into their relationship and time changes even the most hard headed of entities.
Habit can’t technically feel love the way humans do, but this is something else entirely. He is bound to her the way she is to him. She is his other half, mortal or not.
In the life cycles where she reincarnates later than him, the only reason he’s not as bothered is because he’s been alive for longer. The passage of time goes by quicker for him, and he doesn’t share the anxiety that she has about things “going wrong.”
He’ll wait around until he inevitably run into her, then he’ll ask her out. It’s literally the first date, but she’ll naturally feel pulled to him. And a couple of hours later, she’s in his home- where he’ll rest his forehead against hers, snickering when her face contorts in confusion.
Lilic circles his pupils, and she’ll freeze. The memories flooding her mind, overwhelming her for a moment. Then he’ll see it. The recognition in her gaze. They are lovers in every lifetime after they meet, and he plans on keeping it that way.
You are his favourite bunny, and nothing on earth- including time, laws or physics, can change that.
