the glee with which other white gay people will talk about the prospect of gentrifying or colonizing areas to create a new "lesbian commune!!" or "gay town!!" or w/e just totally unbothered by any of the ethical implications of what they're proposing is fucking craaaaaaazy
i feel insane seeing these people talk about the prospect of "buying up" property and buildings in an impoverished area with just 0 awareness that what they're describing entails violence and displacement
This energy though
The amount of transphobes that just don't know anything about swords or fencing is fucking killing me. Firstly, alot of fencing competitions are gender neutral. Secondly even if someone who did have a massive strength advantage entered a fencing competition that still wouldn't help them too much because a duel with swords is very rarely decided on strength. It doesn't matter how strong you are, if your opponent hits you that's a point for them. Fencing is won entirely by fucking knowing how to fence, shockingly.
Also, anybody commenting "Why is her hair greasy. She needs to wash her hair" needs to step outside the house like atleast once in their life. Girl just won a fencing competition and she was wearing one of these 👇 the whole time
SHE WAS FUCKING SWEATY

this post was brought to my attention today and I checked her twitter and this made me happy
transition timelines are one of the greatest things we have in the world
It is a known fact that swordswomen are necessary for a thriving ecosystem. She saw a need and did something about it.
thinking about the time a former housemate said to me "hey I put these box fans in the living room because it's hot" while gesturing to the fans that I was actively sitting in front of because it was hot. and I said "okay thanks." and she kept standing there like she was waiting for something else so I said "am I blocking the airflow? do you need me to move?" and she said no I'm just letting you know they're here, in the living room, for circulation. and I said well yes, I did put that together. I am enjoying them. thank you. and she looked confused. so I asked "am I meant to do something with this information or are you just informing me?" and she said no I'm letting you know they're here because It's Hot In Here. she seemed a bit aggravated, and her emphasis seemed deliberate.
it took me asking three more times before she finally told me she wanted me to leave the fans where they are instead of moving them to my room or something. and I said oh! I had no intention of doing so but thank you for letting me know what the expectation is.
about a month later she brought up that conversation as the moment it actually clicked for her that I Am Autistic And Will Not Magically Intuit The Unspoken Request You Didn't Ask Me.
I have observed enough allistic communication to know that generally, if somebody points something out to you that you can already see or are already clearly interacting with, they are making an indirect request. but as I don't know what the request is, the only way forward is for me to guess (and likely get it wrong), or prompt the allistic to tell me clearly what they need.
however, allistics don't realize they do this, so asking them to say the unspoken surprises and confuses them. this is not their fault. allistics can be quite emotionally fragile and perceive directness as confrontation, so they habitually rely on indirect speech and coded language to preserve others' feelings. this is why they may find it difficult to be direct, even when asked. I have found that with enough gentle encouragement and reassurance that they are actually helping you, you too can achieve successful communication with your allistic friend or loved one. :)

It would be funny if we were introduced to a vast galaxy of alien life and the blue whale was still the largest animal ever discovered. Like that’s the biggest life has ever gotten. That would be fucked. The blue whale is just the craziest animals would get even with the introduction of a seemingly infinite number of new species. Would you be disappointed or celebrate the enormity of our homegrown big ass creature?
nonsense words such as "blorbo" and "skibidi" are outliers and a minuscule minority and thus do not invalidate that statement
Skibidi coming from scat, an art form pioneered by black people, is actually AAVE, and not an outlier.

i’m not even a lesbian, yall just piss me off so fucking bad
The second half of “trans mascs have always been a part of the lesbian community” must be understood as “and trans femmes have always been excluded!”
can I be so fucking forreal with you rightnow?
stone butch blues is a good read and provides insight into trans masc lesbian experience, as well as dyke bar culture.
it also was published 33 years ago and the bulk of it is set between 65 and 85 years ago. It is far from current, it is far from authoritative, and the use of it by trans masculine dykes to shut down conversations about trans feminine inclusion in lesbian spaces is a stretch at best.

I'm reading a book named "A Guide to The Correction of Young Gentlemen Or, The Successful Administration Of Physical Discipline To Males, By Females" - essentially, a fantasy femdom BDSM book, written in 1924 by Alice Kerr-Sutherland but first published in 1991.
It has some genuinely fascinating stuff to say about gender, and I feel like it's worth looking at/thinking about in the context of Historical Gender Stuff. This 100 year old book has the following to say:
"The truth is that some young gentlemen would rather they had been born young ladies: they cannot admit this openly, because in the male world to confess as much would lead to instant ostracism if not worse; but they cannot conceal it either, and by preferring the company of girls, and soft, feminine clothing, and by flinching during the rough pursuits to which all boys, willing or no, are occasionally heirs, they attract opprobrium."
"Such boys weep too readily for their fellows' tastes - weeping is a great crime among boys unless it is generally admitted that circumstances left little choice - and are hounded for that reason."
"Just as there are girls who had rather been boys - we all know examples of the type - there are boys who, in a kinder world, would have been born into the gender more suited to their dispositions."
"Many young people of this sort are riven with a guilt they do not deserve but have been forced, by the conventions of society, to adopt; they are confused, ashamed and thoroughly unhappy."
"The ideal thing to do would be to treat these cases on their merits, send them to girls' schools, and so on. (The same thing should happen with those girls who would rather be young gentlemen.) Boys of this sort are girls in any case-in all respects save one."
"Most subjects of this sort have a secret name - a girl's name."
100 year old femdom kink book understands transmisogyny better than the average tumblr user
“go early, it’s hard to find parking” you want public transit. “don’t go on weekends, traffic is terrible” you want public transit. “once i parked i had to walk half a mile to the entrance” you want public transit. “it took me an hour to get out of the area after the concert” you want public transit. “ugh somebody needs to DD” you want public transit. “can you drive? my car won’t start” you want public transit. you want public transit. you want public transit. you want public transit.
i think about this a lot bc like. ultimately i do think cars should be banned altogether. that said i think it’s 2fold for me-
- If traffic is majorly reduced by efficient, timely, effective public transportation, the roads will be more open for those who really do need a private vehicle for disability accommodation
- ideally if we’re pouring the amount of money we would need to into transit, we’re also working to come up with new and innovative ways to accommodate for disabilities on public transit options. i think you can’t talk about the future of like things like transit, or in general how you want the world to grow and develop, without taking time to consider how we can better accommodate for disability on a societal scale.
I used to work specifically helping people with disabilities use fixed-route public transportation (buses and trains that go to the same places every route, as opposed to paratransit or other transit that can make stops at different places).
My folks could be divided into two main groups - people with intellectual or developmental disabilities learning to use transit independently for the first time, and people with acquired disability who had been using cars to get around and now needed transit (new wheelchair users, blind or low vision mostly).
I need everybody to understand RIGHT NOW that every bit of extra added difficulty in using public transit - every added expense, every extra stroad cosswalk to cross, every missing curb cut and broken crosswalk audio box and every fucking route with 30 minute intervals - is an order of magnitude more damaging to disabled groups' ability to ride safely. Every bit of extra walking distance on shitty American infrastructure kills disabled people more than it does anybody else!
These failures trap disabled people in homes, isolate them from social engagements, make it difficult to access care or recreation. These failures mean that it's so much more a matter of luck - do your class, geography, and familial background meet your support needs with private transportation, or are you at the mercy of shitty caregivers? Can you ride on a decent transit system, or are you stuck using systems that don't work well for you and are much more likely to kill you as a pedestrian than someone who isn't disabled yet?
I really enjoyed this work - it was really cool to see people be able to go places they'd like to go with much more independence than they had had in other areas of life. As a role interacting with other parts of American disability services and shit, it had a lot of fucking godawful eugenicist shit baked in (e.g. required assessments for paratransit services to be eligible for travel training are straight-up "how disabled are you" tests by some 3rd-party private contractor, rancid!!!), and I felt some relief when I left. I miss riding busses and trains all day, and I miss getting to know those I worked with. I will never not be irritated when someone says "what about disabled people" with regards to public transit - you need to be fighting for better transit for these populations specifically. You need to fight for transit so fucking robust that it does not matter where exactly you are or what precisely your access needs are, you have a right to go to the places you need to go.
