American Gothics. Note that Grant Wood's painting is of a daughter-and-father pair--that Moon Knight issue concerns his daughter, but I think that's Marlene next to him!

Christian Louboutin sees a Helicarrier crash in The Loubiverse Explodes #1, 2023, by Paul Allor and Nick Roche.
How I feel on good days. From Marvels #4, 1994, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross.
âAll of the Marvelsâ will be published by Penguin in fall 2021.
I've been working on this book for more than five years, and it's finally out today!
Lois and Clark run into Blackheart, just before Ghost Rider rescues them, in 1995âs Ghost Rider #66, by Howard Mackie, Salvador Larroca and Sergio Melia. (To be fair, theyâd probably have been fine on their own.)
Around the time of The Punisher #5, 2009, by Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña, the Canadian metal band 3 Inches of Blood released their album âHere Waits Thy Doom,â whose recording lineup included no original members of the band.
The cover of 1991âs The Punisher #47 has the dubious distinction of being the only Marvel cover I know of with FOUR artist credits: âKKâ (presumably assistant editor Kevin Kobasic), âJR SRâ (John Romita Sr., almost certainly), Hugh Haynes (who penciled the interior of the issue) and Terry Austin. Operation Desert Stormâs dates were January 17 to April 11, 1991; what weâre seeing here is the Australian printing, but the American edition (with the same cover copy) was cover-dated April, so the cover text would have been VERY current at the time of publication. Interestingly, the letters page includes an ad for 50% off subscriptions purchased for an Operation Desert Storm soldier. Also, what is with the scimitars everybodyâs waving around on this cover?
Various demands for SILENCE! from Deadpool: The Gauntlet, 2014, by Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn, Reilly Brown, et al.

My book âAll of the Marvels,â about all 27,000+ Marvel superhero comics considered as a single story, comes out from Penguin on October 5! If you preorder it through Books with Pictures, itâll come signed to you (or to the person of your choice), and there might be a fun little bonus thing in the package, too... the link for that is https://forms.gle/G8377BMrBWiMfdN5A .
Iâm very pleased to announce the long-awaited debut of VOICE OF LATVERIA, my new weekly podcast about the complete history of Doctor Doom! https://voiceoflatveria.com
Every week, my guests and I will be looking at one of Victor Von Doomâs comics appearances, in the order he experienced them. (Thatâs different from both publication order and regular Marvel chronology, because, well, Dr. Doomâs the inventor of the Time Platform, which makes things more complicated.)
President Doom demands silence in Doom 2099 #33, 1995, by Warren Ellis, Steve Pugh and Scott Koblish. (The relative silence around here will be broken Tuesday. Just saying.)
Majick and Loss (cf. the 1992 Lou Reed album âMagic and Lossâ) confront a dealer/user of the street drug Chain in Doom 2099 #26, 1995, by Warren Ellis, Pat Broderick and John Nyberg.
West Coast Avengers #52, 1989, written and drawn by John Byrne, who apparently didnât feel like drawing a particularly gory and complicated scene. Inks by Mike Machlan.
Sgt. Fury Annual #6, 1970: Gary Friedrich, Dick Ayers and John Severin poke fun at Roy Thomasâs ridiculous workload at the time.
Midas semi-quotes âHamletâ in Iron Man #107, 1978, by Bill Mantlo, Keith Pollard and Fred Kida.
How I feel on good days. From Marvels #4, 1994, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross.

Ms. Lionâthe dog from âSpider-Man and His Amazing Friendsââgets namedropped in Gravity #2, 2005, by Sean McKeever, Mike Norton and Jonathan Glapion.
