can we stop with the "epstein class" bullshit. if you mean billionaires say billionaires. if you mean child predators say child predators. if you mean corrupt men in power say corrupt men in power. you sound like an edgy 13yo who just discovered communism trying to sound more politically educated than they actually are
you also sound like an antisemite <3
Tbh I think a lot of people are just missing the issue with the whole Harry Potter thing. The biggest reason why it’s important not to buy Harry Potter shit is because the money that JK Rowling gets from that goes directly to hurting trans people. The discussion shouldn’t be about like, how comfortable someone feels reading a book written by someone that they know has bad opinions, or separating the art from the artist or whatever. These are all perfectly fine and interesting things to talk about, but they are not the main issue. The question isn’t “are you comfortable reading a book written by someone who hates trans people” it’s “are you comfortable giving money to someone who hates trans people, knowing that the money will be used to hurt them,” and if the answer to that question is yes, you can’t claim to care about the lives and rights of trans people.
I still dislike enegagement with HP that doesn't involve the direct transfer of money to JKR, but I admit it's a grey area. I'd prefer that anyone that is eg writing HP fic would either file off most of the names/references to make a weird AU that doesnt feed the HP algorithm, or kept it to themselves, even so.
But at the end of the day our priority has gotta be denying JKR money, more than fighting people who are somewhat contributing to the general popularity of the franchise. Why bicker with twenty randoms on tumblr when you can contact a store manager or write to a corporation?
a ton of people have unexpectedly followed me over the last 2 days so here is my rent-lowering gunshot:
the american south is the most racially diverse and poorest region of the united states, and any political sentiment that treats the south is stupid or expendable is inherently racist and classist. a lot of y'all are racist and classist. the south is also the heart of american culture. argue with a wall. you cannot deny that everybody in the entire world does not emulate artists from atlanta. there is vested interest in keeping the south poor and uneducated BECAUSE this is the most racially diverse region in this country. if you actually give a fuck about progress, you would fight for the south, not mock us.
When ur criticizing Israel and the ⚡️⚡️ starts thinking ur on their side
have you stopped to consider why that might be happening so often?
it's giving "wow so weird that Nazis feel so welcome and comfortable approaching me. this must be a them problem and not because of anything I might be doing"
'Why does every nonbinary person want top surgery' I dunno maybe because having visible breasts immediately makes everyone assume you're female and only female, and therefore put you into a binary. Also why are you assuming every nonbinary person has breasts.
I think people who believe that should also put some thought into whether every nonbinary person with breasts actually wants top surgery, or whether they've just decided that the nonbinary people with breasts who want to keep them don't "count" as nonbinary.
#i know plenty of nonbinary people who want breasts or like their breasts#but they're viewed as either transtrenders or trans women in denial <- prev tags
sometimes when I hear the question ‘do you prefer shane or ilya’ I feel like I’m meeting king Solomon and he’s asking if I’m cool with cutting the baby in half
ah, but you forget the original point. Shlomo asked the question in order to determine which woman truly loved the baby. the woman who accepted the offer was turned away, and the other woman who said she'd do anything to keep the baby whole and alive was given custody of the child.
This Fourth of July, I ask that you support Native Hawaiian independence.
The Kingdom of Hawai’i was illegally overthrown with the help of American businessmen and we have suffered under the iron grip of America.
Our land is simply seen as a vacation spot, my people are simply seen as tour guides and hula dancers. We have had our culture, our history, and our people turned into a commercialized joke by America.
The rampant tourism kills our islands with endless hotels, attractions and overcrowding. The housing and living costs are out of control because of the false “paradise” narrative. The Navy poisons our water and destroys our land. Covid has killed so many of my people due to the reckless and selfish nature of tourists. I have lost loved ones to this virus, because tourists “couldn’t stay away”.
My people have suffered. I have suffered.
We are more than your vacation. We are more than an aesthetic.
We are a sovereign nation illegally occupied by the United States of America.
Restore Hawai’i to Hawaiians. End the American Occupation.
See the links below to learn more and to read up on your Hawaiian history.

In the town where I was born, their only claim to fame is having a really exciting snake-breeding festival. Once a year, for whatever reason, all the snakes in the surrounding area decide that it's a great idea to get their bone on in the middle of town. Tourists used to travel there, back in the days when television was more boring, and watch this infinitely undulating orb of reptile sex slither all over town. Now there's not so many tourists, although the snakes are as randy as ever.
This has, naturally, impacted the town's economic prospects. It's easy to refuse fiscal support from other levels of government when the local diner is doing boffo business from nature photographers and U-Haul van airbrushers. No handouts. Strong back, principle and all that. Thing is, when the local economy goes to shit, usually the surrounding area does as well. So they started to attract snake handlers.
Now, I don't judge folks for their oddball religious affiliations – I have owned a Chrysler Intrepid, after all – but it just seemed to me like it was a bad idea to handle snakes. Especially snakes you don't know. Especially-especially snakes you don't know, after the long-time pastor who provided all the snakes for your previous handling episodes had died without leaving any documentation as to what he did to make the old snakes not bite you. So now the town had two problems: the aforementioned fiscal constraints, and also legal trouble from allowing a bunch of folks to show up in their Sunday best and get bitten to death by poisonous, horny snakes.
Ultimately, the problem solved itself. And by that, I mean that I moved out of town as soon as I was able. There's not much left for me back there anymore. The snakes own it all now anyway, due to an obscure provision in state law. Sometimes in the spring, though, I like to think about visiting the town, and taking a few photographs, just to recapture a bit of that old glory. Then I don't, because if I wanted to see a bunch of snakes making life difficult for myself, I'd fix the wiring harness in this Goddamn Saab.

Really hate that most people don’t understand the difference between “self-expression” and “artistic-expression.”
I say this as someone who sells pottery, and many people who see my art assume I am using art as an outlet to “express myself.”
I am not.
I use art to challenge myself. A lot of what I do is the equivalent of doing a hard sudoko or a half marathon, answering the question of “can I do this?”
I use art to question things and explore ideas. Finding physical synthesis between concepts and working out a design to its end state.
I use art to make money. I make some things just because I suspect they’ll sell well, and I keep making them when they do.
This idea that an artist is “putting themselves out there” every time they create is not only stupid, but harmful, and it kills critique and analysis.
Yes every creative work is influenced by its creator, but the most preliminary step of analysis is to define the purpose of a work of art (functional, narrative, entertainment, persuasive, decorative, ceremonial, etc.) and a vanishingly small percentage of that is self-expression. Even then, it’s generally tied to the self’s relationship with something else—perception, society, etc.
It’s very tiresome to have people assume they know you because they like (or dislike) your art, to make assumptions about who you are and how you approach the world. It’s nothing new— people called the Impressionists insane and the Fauvists degenerate. And now people are expected to hand out their identities and traumas to prove they have the right to explore certain subjects.
But to actually understand art, you have to contextualize it beyond assuming it’s just what the artist felt like making at the moment and it’s somehow coming from their deepest soul, or you’ll badly misinterpret most art you come across.
I.. I know you spirits are there! Stay back! I’ve got a shovel! Artfight attack on DrearThunder!
Imagine living pre-refrigeration. Pain in the arse.
and in early refrigeration. Death.
Agreed but at the same time there’s something really cool to me that only a hundred years ago or so people were having blocks of ice delivered to their homes to keep their food cold
I'm pretty sure those blocks of ice were made via refrigeration.
I thought they were cut out of frozen lakes and transported into cities but maybe that was a myth I picked up living in the north woods near lots of lakes.
That's how it was done before refrigeration, and also during early refrigeration before the ice factories took over.
Swordfish lives through the pursuit of the world’s worst archers, and finally meets Grym! I can’t tell if either of them are very enthusiastic about their situation, but at least Hopper’s happy!
